Flame's POV
"The Viking warrior who drank beer from the skulls of those he had killed!" I repeated what Martha said with trepidation and excitement. I don't know this Viking warrior but at the mere mention of his name, my heart started beating hard against my ribcage and I began to feel a strange but sweet throbbing sensation that I couldn't explain in between my thighs
"But did he really do that? Did he really drink out of dead people's skulls" I ask Martha in awe. I can't hide how terrified I am of this Viking warrior from Martha but I try as much as possible not to let my strange excitement for the warrior that she described as a monster show so she wouldn't think I've gone crazy
"Well, I know for a fact that his mother came from a long line of Viking warriors since she told me herself during those days that I worked with the Alpha. As for drinking beer from the skulls of those he had killed?... I wouldn't confirm that information as fact since it wasn't done in my presence.
"Why did you stop working for the family? The work there couldn't have been harder than the one we do here at the Night Howler's pack or was it?"
"No, it wasn't and I was also paid well. Everything changed when the Alpha found his mate. I would have quit myself if she had not fired me. She said she didn't want a human maid around her. She was always complaining about everything I did until finally decided to fire me"
I wanted to hear more about this Viking warrior and his family. I was about to ask Martha another question when her phone started ringing
"The Alpha is calling me?..." Martha said questioningly looking from her phone's screen to my face with surprise. "Why is the Alpha calling me at this time of the day?" She asked again before immediately swiping the screen to the right to pick up the call
"Alpha!" She said into her phone and then listen for a while to what the Alpha had to say
"Yes, Alpha... Okay, great!... We'll be ready by the time he arrives." She said finally before ending the call.
She looks at me and sighs regrettably
"I know you're enjoying our chat but we've been called back to work. I'm sorry." She tells me with a not so pleased expression on her face
"He asked us to come back to work?" I ask unbelievably. "But why? Why did he ask us to come back this late in the night?"
"Apparently, he's having some very important visitors coming over to the pack right away. And he could only trust me to take care of their needs for the little time they would be spending at the pack. He was very particular about me selecting the person I trust the most to work with like it wasn't just the both of us that's been doing it alone all these while. Anyway, let's go prepare, someone is already on his way to pick us up." She says, standing up to leave
"Okay..." I reply with a sigh of frustration, leaning back in my chair
"Well, aren't you going to get up and go get dressed?" She turns back and asks when she realizes I'm not following behind her
I look down at what I'm wearing. Faded skinny jeans that have ripped in the areas of my knees and right thigh and a white eyelet blouse.
"I'm dressed already or is there something wrong with what I'm wearing?" I ask as she looks at my faded jeans with disapproval
"Not that I have a large collection of clothes to select from plus I'm going there to work, not for a fashion show, so..." I shrug and let the rest of my words trail off
Martha's eyes soften... "Okay just grab a jacket or something. The night might get cold as it progresses and we don't know the kind of job they'll ask you to do.
Unless it's snowing hard, werewolves don't need protecting from crisp cold night air but I stand up and go to my room to get Ethan's hoodie so I can hand it over to him later since I already had it washed
The driver take us to a part of the pack land that I never knew existed, where a row of about ten semi-detached houses were newly built. I've lived on this pack land all my life and the only places I've been to during my childhood and tween age were the school, the pack house, and the house I grew up in. Celine had always kept me close to herself and never allowed me to have any friends, neither did she let me explore my surroundings
The driver removes a key from his pocket as he leads us to one of the houses. He opens the door and we follow him into a large but sparsely furnished living room.
"There are three rooms upstairs and two down here. You're expected to get all of them ready before our guests' arrival, which might be any moment from now." He tells us before pointing towards the open kitchen.
"There are groceries in the kitchen area and all other household supplies inside the hall closet. You know what to do and I'll leave you to it." He says finally and immediately turns to leave

Thor's POV
My dad was shot twice. One bullet wound was on his shoulder and the other at the right side of his stomach.
"How's his pulse?" I ask Eric briefly, glancing to see he has removed what was left of his shirt, pressing it on the wound on my dad's stomach to minimize the bleeding.
"It's still weak but I know he's going to make it. Uncle Knox is one of the toughest Shifters I've ever known, Thor so try not to worry too much!"
"Damn it!" I swore loudly as I bang hard on the steering wheel. "He wouldn't have stormed out if I had not made him angry. We would have been having dinner together right now if I wasn't such a pig-headed bastard!"
"No!... Don't do that to yourself! I won't allow you to go down that lane again, I won't!"
"It's my fault! I shouldn't have..."
"Shut the fuck up, Thor! It isn't your fault so don't blame this on yourself again!... It's obvious Uncle Knox was targeted for assassination from what I saw at the accident scene and if you haven't been so grief-stricken you would have also noticed the same yourself. So whether he left in anger or he spent the night with us I'm afraid this would have still been the case since no one saw it coming.
I grip the steering wheel hard and feel my anger boil within me as I listen to Eric.
"What are the things you saw?"
"No, we can't discuss that right now. We have to concentrate on Uncle Knox for now. After we've gotten him to the hospital then we can talk about it"
"Okay..." I reply since I know he's right.
We soon arrive at the massive gate of the Night Howler's pack. A car is waiting inside the pack by the entrance to lead us to their hospital. We get to the hospital and indeed a team of physicians are already on standby and they crowd all over my dad as soon as we park the car.
