Nearly two hours later, Dominic was still standing in the same place, his eyes wandering around and observing the situation. Every 15 minutes, the captain of the rescue team would report the situation to Dominic. No trace... No trace... All the words he didn't want to hear. His face was becoming more and more unsightly, and his anger was hard to hide, even in his terrifying gaze.
Until now, Dominic hadn't heard what he wanted to hear. Everything related to Esther seemed to have been swept away by the sudden avalanche. He was like petrified, standing still, staring at every corner of the forest.
Where are you... Esther?
Dominic didn't believe in virtue or god, but right now he really wanted to pray that Esther wouldn't be in any danger. He would rather that the person lying in the thick and cold snow was him than that weak and fragile girl.
"Sir, we heard strange noises in this area."
Almost in the blink of an eye, Dominic rushed towards the area, his steps faltering, as if he could no longer stand. He put on a sound detector and listened intently. Just like what the captain of the rescue team had said, they detected a series of strange sounds. It was like a steady knock on a strong glass.
"Sir, we've searched the area very carefully. Although the sound may sound strange, I'm guessing it's probably just water falling on ice."
Although they did not want to give up hope of finding the boss's fiancée, the professional rescue team had to admit that they almost gave up the search. The area isn't too big, but they've already searched where they can find people. They felt that within two hours, they had almost dug up this snowy forest.
Avalanches can cause a person to be swept away to other locations, making the search very difficult. Perhaps, luck was not on Esther Joan's side.
"It's her. I know it must be her."
Dominic replied firmly. He looked towards the source of the sound, quickly put on his protective suit and headed towards it.
"Sir, we have searched the area thoroughly. Under this snow there is only a giant iceberg, no one can survive in a place like this." The captain of the professional rescue team tried to convince Dominic when he saw that he wanted to search here. "Perhaps we should disperse our forces to other areas to find Lady Joan."
"Didn't you guys hear anything?" Dominic almost roared. "She was waiting for me to save her. I heard her breathing."
Hear breathing? This is almost impossible. The sound of human breathing was very soft, their radios no matter how advanced they were, the ability to pick up the sound of human breathing was almost zero, but Dominic insisted firmly that he heard the sound. Esther's breath.
The captain of the rescue team sighed, he knew he couldn't stop the boss. In the most desperate times, people can imagine things they want to hear or see. He didn't dare say this to Dominic because it was like extinguishing his little hope.
If they couldn't find Esther, he was afraid Dominic would go insane.
Dominic stared at the giant iceberg, then began using his device to puncture it. His force was so great, right from the first stabs that the iceberg cracked. The lifeguards looked at each other, they both saw the look of surprise in each other's eyes.
They had followed the boss for many years, experienced many dangers and near death, but they had never seen their boss like this. He seemed to have shaken off his indifference, his eyes filled with determination. He must have gone through the most bewildering and fearful moment to be like such a beast that risked his life.
Rescue workers also immediately rushed in to help break the ice. Although in their hearts they didn't really believe that anyone could survive under this huge iceberg, they were still inspired by Dominic.
Wait a minute... I'm about to find you.
Dominic kept repeating that in his head like a mantra. Until the iceberg split open in a large chunk, Dominic's eyes widened.
"Found her, quickly find the rope to pull her up."
The captain of the rescue team didn't seem to believe this was real. He actually saw the shadow of someone lying under the ice. He shouted loudly and urged people to quickly rescue the victim. Just a few minutes later, the giant iceberg was completely removed, the smell of fresh blood rushed up.
Dominic narrowed his eyes, trying to calm down but still couldn't stop the tears welling up. He knew that a crying man was just a weak and useless guy, but right now he couldn't help but feel his joy mixed with extreme anxiety.
He was the first to climb down this hole. It's dark and cold like the North Pole.
It was not difficult for Dominic to recognize which of these two women was Esther. She was wearing only a thin sweater, and her body was convulsing and shaking, but she still held the flashlight in one hand and tapped steadily on a thin sheet of ice. Her eyes were closed, as if she had fallen asleep, but her extraordinary energy remained.
Dominic had seen her in many ways, soft, weak, angry, heartbroken… but this was the first time he had seen her so resilient.
He picked her up and hugged her, looked to the side and found Kaylin Joan lying next to her. Her feather cloak covered Kaylin's body, while she herself was so cold that she fainted. Dominic really wanted to rebuke her, then, all his mixed emotions were left with a gentle gaze at her.
After placing a soft kiss on her already cold forehead, he tugged on the ropes for the lifeguards to pull them up. Kaylin Joan was also brought up soon after.
Compared to Esther's condition, Kaylin was much more critical, she was almost dying. Fortunately, her blood was stopped in time and she was taken to the operating room down the mountain.
Esther also suffered a head injury, near her forehead there was a long scratch, the blood was dry but the wound was still very scary looking at it.
The doctor had to stitch Esther's wound.
"Try not to leave a scar. She'll hate it. Be gentle, she's afraid of pain." Dominic reminded briefly.
Then he sat waiting for her in the hospital. The nurse brought something to Dominic to replace his shirt which was dirty and stained with blood, but he just shook his head and refused.
"Sir, your hand needs a bandage."
A lifeguard passed by, bowed his head and spoke to Dominic. Only then did Dominic notice that his hands were torn and blood was still flowing. When he broke the ice just now, he was in such a hurry that he didn't even remember to wear protective gloves, so he used his hands to do it. Only now did he feel the pain of his palm.
A nurse helps her bandage, she does it very carefully, while taking advantage of looking at this handsome and manly man. This was the first time she had seen such a charismatic and attractive man. He was like a regal lost in this remote mountain region.
"If you look at me again, will you believe I'll gouge out your eyes?" Dominic moved his lips, his voice cold but his eyes flashing with displeasure.
The nurse was scared, did not dare to stay there anymore, but immediately ran away. She didn't expect the man to say such barbaric words. He was too dangerous, she better not go near him again.
After the nurse left, Dominic closed his eyes and leaned back against the wall to rest. His mind was still completely clear, he just wanted to sort out his chaotic emotions a bit, when he met Esther again, he wouldn't let her see his struggling appearance.
Dominic could never forget the moment he held her cold body in his arms, looked at the blood on her face and her closed eyes, then felt her ragged breath. It looks like fear, pain, and panic. He almost lost her.
After this incident, he would not allow himself to neglect her safety ever again.
