"You crave that title?" I slowly picked up a few pieces of sushi and put them on a plate.
"What if I say yes?"
I turned around to look at her, then popped a piece of sushi into my mouth. She frowned as she watched me eat, her eyes looked like she was looking at a madwoman. After chewing, I took a sip of white wine and answered her.
"If you're good, try stealing from me." I moved closer to her little by little until we were close together, then I whispered in her ear. "You said you never lost, didn't you?"
For the first time I saw Edna's face tense and lose confidence. The smile on her lips faded and disappeared. Seconds later she turned around and left in a displeased mood. And I smiled, did not hide my gloating, continued to enjoy the delicious sushi.
"Are you in a good mood?"
Dominic approaches me without realizing it, his hand resting lightly on my waist.
"Probably because the food here is pretty good." I shrugged and said.
"Oh really?" Dominic grinned like he knew my lie. "Then I'll bring you back to this place next time."
"Okay. I love it."
Suddenly at this moment, the melodious music stopped. Everyone was surprised and looked towards the stage. I don't know when Edna was standing there. She had changed, a pure white ballet and beautiful like a fairy.
A thought crossed my mind. Isn't Edna going to perform ballet here? This is crazy and stupid. I don't understand what the hell she's thinking.
"Ladies and gentlemen, on a wonderful and romantic evening like this, why don't we enjoy a ballet?"
Everyone looked excited. I turned to look at Dominic and saw that he was also looking at Edna. Suddenly, I seem to realize something.
Everyone clapped loudly for Edna and they sat down to enjoy her performance. Truly worthy of the title 'youngest member of the Angels', Edna captured everyone's attention. She embodies all the quintessence and charm of ballet, making it easy for anyone who knows nothing of the art to fall in love with her.
Edna's actions may seem impulsive and reckless, but there's no denying that it makes her stand out and they remember her. I clenched my glass of white wine in my hand and turned to look at Dominic. Right now, he was talking to Edna's father.
"Lady Edna Mohini is truly an outstanding girl. You are lucky, Mr. Mohini."
"Oh haha, thank you for your compliment, Dominic Arnold. And let me tell you one thing, my daughter is a big fan of you, she's been talking about you all the time after our last meeting."
Having said that, Mr. Mohini glanced over at me briefly and then resumed his conversation with Dominic. That glance hides many hidden meanings. It is contempt, irony, and even ridicule. Maybe he wasn't pleased that I was Dominic's fiancée. If he could, I believe he would make me disappear to take his daughter's place.
Perhaps I underestimated Edna Mohini. She was bolder and more reckless than I expected. To get Dominic's attention, she would do anything.
Originally in the parties and meetings of billionaires or people in the aristocracy, many young ladies and young masters who studied ballet from a young age would come to perform. The more excellent they are, the more proud the family is. Obviously, not everyone is like Dominic, choosing the hard and dangerous business. The rich ladies and young masters only need to study a few arts and that's enough.
After a stunning ballet performance, Edna seemed brimming with confidence and pleasure, enthusiastically accepting everyone's praise. When I saw her walking towards us with a bright smile, my heart beat faster than ever. I turned to Dominic and saw that he was looking at her too.
"Oh girl, look at your sweat." Mohini took a tissue and gave it to Edna.
"Unfortunately, I wish I could perform a few more shows if I had the strength."
Edna's steps staggered slightly and fell into Dominic's lap. He grabbed her arm so she could stand. Just like that, they held each other's hands right in front of my eyes and I could only stare blankly.
"Ah, thank you very much." Edna said softly, her face flushed lovely, and her voice also contained a hint of tenderness.
"Perhaps Lady Mohini is tired, you should rest." Dominic slowly withdrew his hand when he saw that Edna was on his feet, his expression the same from beginning to end, but his eyes were still watching her.
"It's okay, I'm fine." As soon as she finished speaking, she fell to her knees as if about to fall. And this time her whole body fell on Dominic.
In the end, I couldn't see any more. My annoyance and frustration had reached its limit. They treated me like I was invisible, blatantly acting in front of Dominic, and acting weak. I took a step forward, took Edna's hand and pulled her against my lap.
"If you're too tired, you can rely on me."
Only then did Dominic turn to look at me, but he said nothing. His gaze almost glimmered with interest. He let me do whatever I wanted, and he took the wine glass and slowly enjoyed it. As he always said, he would love to see me jealous because of him.
Edna didn't seem pleased when I abruptly pulled her away from Dominic, but she didn't make it too obvious either.
"Miss Esther Joan, I wonder if my performance just now was convincing enough? I heard that you're a ballet dancer too, you must be very knowledgeable about this, aren't you?"
"It's undeniable, your ballet performance just now was truly outstanding. Mr. Mohini must be very proud of you." I nodded and smiled.
Seeing my calm and cheerful attitude, she seemed surprised. Maybe she thinks it's easy to provoke and make me angry, but I'm going to prove her wrong.
Edna is no longer leaning on me. She looked straight at me, her eyes shining with unrecognizable cunning.
"The atmosphere of the party is in full swing, why doesn't Lady Esther Joan put on a ballet performance to cheer everyone up?"
After saying that, she turned to look at everyone and called out to cheer me on the stage. She acted like it was a very good thing and enthusiastically held my hand, acting like she and I were very close. Her true purpose is not difficult to guess. She wants people to compare me to her. She must have been confident and proud of her own ballet talent, to the point where she assumed I would only do a lackluster performance that couldn't match her excellent performance.
She wants to prove to everyone who is more talented and beautiful. And that also indirectly confirms who is worthy to be Dominic's woman.
Seeing the flicker of confusion on my face, Edna cheered even more.
"Come on, be confident Esther Joan. I'll lend you a beautiful ballet dress, everyone is waiting to see your ballet performance." Edna turned to look at me and smiled meaningfully. "Besides, Sir Dominic Arnold's fiancée wouldn't disappoint us, am I right?"
