Edna's words put more pressure on me. I feel Dominic's eyes on me, but honestly I don't know what he's thinking.
I lick my lips, take a sip of white wine, then smile.
"Sorry everyone, maybe not today."
I saw everyone's surprised expressions when I refused. They whispered to each other with displeasure.
"What? She refused?"
"It's hard to believe. Dominic's fiancée seems to be more arrogant than I thought. At first I was very impressed with her friendliness but now it's gone."
"I assume she didn't want to do ballet because she had low self-esteem and was afraid that she would lose to Edna. After all, Edna Mohini is also the goddess of ballet in the Angels, and Esther is not very famous."
Edna didn't look surprised when she heard me say that. Because she knew for sure that I had to make a choice. Firstly, I agree, then I will be compared to her and people will constantly argue about who is more worthy of being with Dominic between me and Edna. Second, I don't agree, then people will get upset and think I look down on them.
Whether I choose the first or the second, I am at a disadvantage. Edna is really smart and cunning.
However, I am no longer that naive girl who is easily bullied.
"I'm really sorry everyone for not being able to perform ballet, I promise that if there is another chance we meet, I will perform a perfect performance. The reason is because... I came to the party today as Dominic's fiancée, not a ballerina."
When I finished, I saw Edna's face turn gray, a stiff smile on her lips. Everyone looked at each other in bewilderment, as if they couldn't believe that I could say such a thing.
"Haha..."
While everyone was quiet, the atmosphere seemed a bit tense, Dominic's laughter rang out. I looked at him with puzzled eyes. And he reached out and gently stroked my hair, as he always did.
"My wife only performed ballet for a few events, hope everyone understands."
Dominic put his arm around me and grabbed my waist, then he politely addressed everyone. This statement is like the assertion that his woman does not need to dance ballet to entertain people.
At this point, everything seems to have changed completely. The most embarrassed person right now must be Edna. She tried everything to bring me down, but just one affirmation from Dominic to me was enough to make Edna speechless.
"Alright, let's enjoy some delicious food, shall we?" Mr. Mohini also seemed to be shy, but he did not want people to continue talking about his daughter, so he took the initiative to calm the atmosphere.
Edna also collected her disappointment and humiliation, smiled wryly, then went back to the front because she was tired. Perhaps today's incident was an insult to her, and this was also the first time she had tasted what it felt like to lose. Edna was initially smug as everyone seemed to be manipulated by her and thought badly of Esther. It's just that she didn't expect everything to turn around so quickly, in the end it was her who had to regretfully leave.
I looked at Edna's back, feeling uncomfortable inside with this vengeance. I wish we weren't in love with the same man.
After taking me back to the hotel, Dominic didn't stay either, it seems he has urgent business.
"You're great tonight."
I was just unbuckling my seat belt when I heard Dominic speak.
"But, can I ask you something?"
"Um hm?"
"If we didn't know each other and I met Edna before I met you, would our relationship be the same as it is now?"
"Yes." Dominic answered very emphatically, he hardly needed time to think.
Even I didn't expect him to say it so easily. Actually, I've been wondering for a long time since I left the party. I knew Edna was an attractive girl and had a lot of personality like him, and it was normal for him to be attracted to such women. I figured he might admit it, even if it hurt me.
Unexpectedly, he made all my guesses wrong.
"Mr. Mohini is a known arms dealer, I need him to back me up. That's the only reason I've allowed Edna to hang around between us." He spoke slowly, through his cold tone, it was clear that he had absolutely no affection for Edna. "It's just that it's thanks to her that I can see your personality like today. Shouldn't I be grateful to her?"
"How's my personality?" I rolled my eyes at him in surprise.
"Very cool. And brave too."
I smile. I couldn't hide my joy when I heard him say that.
"Finally, you can laugh. You've been mad at me for the past few days." He took my hand, a gentle light in his eyes.
"It's because you make me jealous."
"My honor."
We could only spend a few brief minutes talking, and then Dominic left. The burden and negative thoughts of the past few days seem to have disappeared. I brought a comfortable mood back to the hotel.
As I entered the elevator, I bumped into someone who was walking out. He was talking on the phone, so he didn't seem to notice, his footsteps were also fast, so he accidentally bumped into me.
"Oh, I'm sorry, are you okay?" The man seemed a bit alarmed.
Thanks to his quick reaction, he grabbed my arm in time and helped me to my feet.
"It's okay, I'm fine." I smiled and nodded at him.
When I raised my head and looked at him, I was a bit surprised. This man is really tall, I had to crane my neck to look him in the eye. He has sharp eyes, thin lips, and a masculine angular face. If he said he was a model, I would definitely believe him, because he has a brilliant and regal aura.
I did not linger there for too long, but quickly said goodbye to the strange man and returned to my hotel room. He also seems to be engrossed in talking on the phone.
When the elevator doors closed, I didn't notice the man glancing in my direction at all. For a moment absentmindedly, his mouth curled up into an attractive smile.
"Hello? Hey, why didn't you say anything?"
"Ah, I'm sorry for the distraction. It's just... I just met someone."
"Who is it?"
"An interesting woman."
