*Abi POV*
Titan sniffs me and my heart sinks. I try to run my hand on his fluffy fur but he backs away and sprints upstairs.
“Titan!” I shout, running behind him, but he is too fast. I walk into my bedroom in time to see him pulling down the bed covers, exposing the unmistakable blood stained sheets.
“Titan,” I call to him softly. This was not meant to hurt him but Omario. I want to explain this to him but I can feel his heart which was pounding a few minutes ago, fading right before he drops on the floor.
“Titan!”
I rush to his side, tears already streaming down my cheeks. “Titan, please wake up.”
“He is being a drama queen because I shut him out,” Nina links.
“You what?”
“Hey! He has to know that you are my human and that idiot is his. He can’t just be here a…”
It now makes sense why Titan has not been talking to me like he usually does.
“You were no where all this time I was going through hell and Titan was there. You had no fucken’ right blocking him!” I yell at Nina.
I can’t believe this wolf!
“Yeh, yeh. I heard you, just chill woman.”
Nina actually dismisses me. I can’t believe this! Her and I must have serious talks, but I’m too worried about Titan right now.
I run my hands on Titan’s fur and hug him but he still does not move.
“Titan, please wake up. I didn’t mean to hurt you. You know that, right?”
He must know that right?
“Seriously? How the hell does he know that, Abi?”
I didn’t even hear Terrence walk in, but he is screaming at me again. “He marked you without even consulting Omario and you did this!”
“Just shut up, Terrence!”
I really don’t need to defend myself to him. I’m starting to wonder how he is even my best friend because he is getting into my nerves.
“Omario always worried about Nina killing him. It turns out that it was you he should have worried about. You are the one to kill him,” Terrence never shuts up.
“What? I would never…”
I can’t believe this! Terrence cuts me short with his accusatory tone.
“He was fucken’ scared Abi, but he had accepted that you are his mate. He ended things with Olivia. He was coming to give you back your title as the only heir of Lilly town packs. Couldn’t you just wait?”
“You think I wanted this?”
I can’t even concentrate on anything he is saying. How can he ask me this? Wait? Wait until when? I waited for months for Omario to accept this, but he was happy in his ignorance and now Titan is paying for it. I am sorry that Titan got hurt in the process but I refuse to take a blame for this. Omario is the one to blame for all of this.
“Your bestie is an idiot, let’s just kill him,”Nina says.
I really should be weary of my wolf.
“Shut up Nina!” I snap at her.
Terrence is getting on my nerves but suggesting him killed is extreme. She is an efficient killing machine, that’s why this is not even something I want to joke about because I still don’t know how to fully control her.
“I was trying to help.”
I can even feel Nina rolling her eyes at me.
“Speak to Titan. Make him better, that’s how you can help.”
“I’m trying but he doesn’t respond.”
Her response is making me panic. Titan’s heart beat is too slow. I don’t need to be an expert to know that this is not good.
“Try harder!”
Shouting at Nina is not fair, but I’m freaking out and she does not seem to be worried at all about Titan.
“Why do I feel like you like him better than me?” Nina asks.
I don’t even have to ask, she probably has not tried connecting with Titan. She marked Omario, she should care about what happens to him and Titan but especially Titan. Her jealousy is confusing and frustrating me.
“Let me make this clear. If Titan dies, so do you.”
“I am you,”she reminds me as if I can just forget that.
“I know.”
“You do like him better than me. Maybe we should exchange humans him and I.”
Nina is now sulking. I can’t believe that she is making this all about her. I take a deep breath and try to reassure her.
“Look Nina, you are great and I love you to bits. I really do, but Titan means a lot to me. He was there during the toughest times of my life. I would die for him any day.”
“Fine! I will try harder to connect with him.”
I leave Nina and turn to Terrence, who is now starring at me.
“You do care about him.”
It’s not a question but a statement. He is probably in my head.
“Off course I do. Please help me help him.”
“I know a lot of herbs but I don’t know what this is. He has completely shut down, I can’t even get into his head. I don’t know how to help him. Rufus and the royal physicians might know.”
I nod my head. I guess it is time to go back to Lilly town kingdom.
Terrence drives like a mad man. We arrive to find Prophet Rufus and the doctors already waiting. They all rush to the car the moment it stops and carry Titan to his chambers.
I can’t help but bursts out into tears when Luna Nala rushes to me and embraces me.
“I am scared,” I mumble and she squeezes me tight.
Nina has tried her best to connect to Titan to no avail. My heart sinks when the royal physician say there’s nothing physically wrong with Titan. That means there’s nothing they can do to help him. My hope is now on Prophet Rufus. He has to help, he just has to.
“There is nothing we can do to help,” Prophet Rufus says, crashing all my hopes.
“Please, there must be something,” I desperately plead. Titan seems to be in a trans or coma of some sort. He does not respond to anyone and all I feel is his faint heart beat. Our species have been around for centuries, surely there’s a way to deal with this.
“He is the toughest wolf but you are his weakness. My guess is you are the only one who can mend his broken heart,” Prophet Rufus explains while looking sympathetically at me.
“I don’t know how. Please tell me how to do it.”
I just need instructions and I will do anything I need to.
“I don’t either, Your Highness.”
Tears stream down my cheeks. This is not how this was meant to go.
“Don’t call me that!” I snap.
I now know that Omario had already informed the elders that he is returning the throne to me. Everyone has been bowing to me since I arrived, but I can’t do this. I can’t deal with him and everyone expecting me to be a leader overnight after being a slave most of my life while loosing my mate.
Prophet Rufus bows and leaves me frustrated and devastated. I can’t undo anything that has already happened. How the hell do I help Titan then?
