One Million Reais Chapter 9

Louisa's p.o.v;

The next morning,

As soon as Ace left the room, I lifted the bed and checked whether the key was still safe under the mattress. I let out a sigh and after seeing the key where I placed it. Satisfied.

Now, I should wait till midnight.

When the maid brought me breakfast, I asked her, "Did you deliver food to anyone like me who was kept as captive in this house?"

The maid replies, "I'll wait here till you finish with your breakfast, mam."

"I'll give you money if you give me a tip. Please, help me."

She looked stunned. Who'll deny the money?

"I can't do what you asked, mam."

I thought she'll give in but she's thicker than I thought.

"Looks like they tamed you well."

Suddenly Ace barged into the room and looked at me. He threw all the food on the floor and shouted at the maid, "Leave!"

After the maid left, the bodyguards closed the door after her.

Ace looked like he's really in a bad mood. What happened to him this time? He stared at me without blinking his eyes. I stood up from the bed and looked down at the floor. He sat on the bed and pulled me to sit beside him.

I touched his hand and asked, "Bad day?"

He looked at me and asked, "Yesterday, I took you out and brought you to the places I've never gone to. Do you know why?"

Never gone to? That explains the fact why he asked about the locations a lot.

I shook my head and looked at him.

Suddenly he grasped the back of my neck and said, "Because I wanted to make you forget about leaving this place but you still stole the key from me."

Shit! He found it!

He stood up and choked my neck and asked, "Where's the key? Where did you hit it?"

I didn't give a response and looked at him. He slapped my cheek so hard which made me fall on the bed. He lifted me from the bed and asked again, "Where's the damn key? Where's it? Open your mouth and say!!"

Since I kept silent, he pushed me on the floor and throwed the decors over me. One of them hit my head and I started to bleed like hell. He still continued throwing things at me. He turned the room upside down and when he lifted the mattress, he saw the key. Sh*t! There goes my escape plan.

He walked to me and showed the key while saying, "You don't even know how to hide the key. How will you escape with this poor skill of yours?" He patted my head and continued, "Don't come up with a silly idea like this again." He stood up and said while cleaning the blood on his hand which he got while patting my bleeding head, "Get a shower."

A shower? Does he think a shower can cure my bleeding head?

Suddenly, the door opened and a bodyguard came in.

Ace shouted at him, "Can't you see that I'm busy here?"

"Sir, your father called."

"Tell him that I'm busy."

"Sir, he insisted it's an important meeting."

He let out a sigh and said, "Inform him that I'll be there in a minute."

After that guy left, Ace squatted down and said while holding my cheek, "We're not finished yet." And walked out of the room.

After he left, I stood up from the floor and went to the bathroom. I opened the shower to clean up my blood on my head and on my body where those pieces cut me. I came out of the shower and walked to the door and squatted down among the broken pieces on the floor. I took the key from the floor and looked at it.

Before Ace left the room, when he tried to keep the key in his pocket, it fell on the floor since he was in a hurry and he didn't check it.

Whatever happens, I'm getting out of here today no matter what.

Through the keyhole, I watched what happened outside the room, I waited till the bodyguard leaves. I know that every bodyguard leaves the door at a particular time so I should wait till that time comes. I hope they leave before Ace comes here.

After a while, the bodyguards started to leave one by one. And there were two Bodyguards near the door. It doesn't look like they're leaving. I won't get a chance like this again. I opened the door with the key and hit the bodyguard with a candle stand and when I tried to hit another one, it's Edgar. I stood still thinking what should I do next. Why couldn't I hit him? Edgar looked at the bodyguard who's on the floor and said to me, "Your friend is in the fifth from the last." And took the candle from my hand and said, "Leave."

I nodded and said, "Thank you." And ran away from that place.

I came to the corridor where I saw rooms on either side. Fifth from the last. Was it on my left or right? Sh*t! Let's try both the rooms. I hit the knob using the steel rod which I got from the bathroom and it opened after many hits. There was no one inside the room. It must be the left side then. Bodyguards would have heard the noise i made while hitting the door, i must hurry before they come here. I started hitting the door hard and the door opened.

I saw Bernie being tied up on the floor, looked in very bad condition being bloody and cuts and bruises. I ran to him and hugged him while saying, "Don't worry. We're getting out of here, Bernie." But I didn't get an answer. He just lay there in my arms, unconscious a little. "I won't let them hurt you, Berenie," I said desperately. But he kept looking ahead, not even acknowledging that I had spoken to him.

I put his hand over my shoulder and started to walk out of the room. He said something but I couldn't hear what it was because he sounded coarse. Must be because of a dry mouth.

When I came out of the room, I saw bodyguards running towards the corridor. Shit! We're trapped. What am I going to do now? "Louisa, this way." Edgar signalled me to go after him in the opposite direction.

After taking many twists and turns, we came out of the house. Since I was in a hurry, I didn't remember how we ended up outside the house. I thanked Edgar for helping me.

He said, "You shouldn't say thanks to your friends. Did you forget your own words?" And smiled at me.

"What about you? What if they find that you helped me? Wouldn't it be a problem for you?"

"I'll take care of it. Your friend seems to be in a bad condition. Take him and leave this place already."

I thanked him again and left the house along with Bernie.

Ace's p.o.v;

I came to the room where the meetings are held in the major house. The table was surrounded by those cunning men, I walked among them and took my seat.

My father, Carlos Ribeiro, who was the leader of the phantom gang started speaking, "What is the current status of the K-18 drug we discussed?"

"Well, Mr. Rivera." One of the men said, "We were able to obtain a sample from that drug for testing. It seems that it would work perfectly on the humans, as long as they were in their human state."

"That's not all." I looked around, noticing that I was the only one who could hear them and responded quickly, "There is a problem with it." Everyone looked at me as if to say continue. "We've been able to get the chemicals off our hands thanks to an ally, however… However it wasn't enough trials. We have to do more."

Father, "I don't have much time to spare. Finish the trials and submit the final product as possible. The deadline wasn't far from us."

"Yes, father."

After a while of discussion about the drug,

"So," one of the men began, a very tall man with his hair combed back, "how is your training going?" He smiled at me from across the table.

I swallowed a bit nervously before answering.

"Quite good sir. I'm not sure what will happen next but I hope we can get more experience."

After the meeting ended, I got up to leave the room but my father asked me to stay behind.

After everyone left, father asked, "Did you find the red shield that I asked you to?"

"I'm investigating every gang in the province, father. I'll inform you as soon as I find it."

"I know I shouldn't have asked you to do this. I thought you would fail this, like I guessed you really did. You are nothing but a disappointment to the phantom gang and to me."

"I will get the red shield soon, father."

"Do I look like an idiot to you?"

"Father?"

"What is that girl still doing in this house? Didn't I ask you to let go of them? Why are you keeping her? Can't you be still without causing me trouble? That girl shouldn't be in this house

tomorrow. If I hear that she's still here, I'll remove you from the phantom gang. Understand?"

"Yes, father."

After he left the room, I took the seat and thought, 'Who would have leaked this out? I can't let her go. I think it's better to change the places.'

I walked out from the main house meeting room and headed to my place. On the way, bodyguards looked tense and scared.

Edgar, "Sir, She's gone."

"What do you mean gone?"

Another bodyguard said, "I've searched the entire house, there's not a trace of her."

I shouted, "Line up!" After everyone stood in uniform, I asked, "What the hell is going on here?"

"Your captive has escaped from this house, Sir. And she took a person along with her, Sir."

I entered my room and looked around for her but she wasn't there proving that the Bodyguards were saying the truth. I sat on the floor seeing Louisa's blood on the floor.

"Sir, she would be within a hundred metres. If we go and look for her…"

Before they finished, I interrupted, "No need. Let her go."

After they left the room, I looked at the blood stains on the floor and thought, 'After all that, you still ran away from me.'
