One Rocky Term Chapter 38

~Alya

I stared at her phone in disbelief, shock, annoyance, disgust, anger. My head was basically spinning as I stared at her phone the tears falling faster than I had expected them to.

Feeling like all strength had been drained from my body, I slowly slid to the ground, the phone still in my hand.

I still stared at Alesscia's phone refusing to believe what was right in front of my eyes.

My nude pictures had been forwarded to the class' group chat. So by now everyone in my class had seen my naked photos and those who hadn't must have already heard about it.

My head was spinning as I tried my best not to drop Alesscia's phone. I barely saw her squatting next to me her lips moving but I had no idea what she was saying.

Basically the only people who could have been responsible for this were my roommates. So they finally did it! They finally did their worst.

The tears clouding my eyes were both blocking my sight and my ability to reason properly. Blinking as much as I could, I went through the few comments below the picture.

The long ewwwww I saw under the picture was enough to give me a migraine.

'What the hell?'

'It's not really surprising anyway she's Ami's daughter after all.'

'It basically runs in the family.'

'I even thought she would do hers for a fee but she was way cheaper than I thought.'

The migraine got worse as I read through the comments over and over again. How in the world would I ever be able to walk into my class again? Why did I not insist on getting my room changed? Why did I even enter that darn hostel to begin with?

All these thoughts kept floating around my head.

"Is she alright?" I heard a new voice ask faintly.

"I don't know," I heard Alesscia's concerned voice. I heard someone calling my name but the continuous pounding in my head and my blurry vision didn't give me the chance to recognize the person or the voice.

I closed my eyes as I tried to fight back both the pain and the tears. My head felt heavy as I felt myself being lifted. Whoever was carrying me seemed to be running as I heard more and more voices.

They probably thought I had passed out. I kept my eyes closed as I reasoned I was being taken to the nurse's office which would be a good thing since I wouldn't have been allowed back in the hostel and the last thing I wanted to do was to step foot in my class.

It felt like a band practice was going on in my head by the time I felt I had stopped moving meaning the person carrying me must have put me down.

I slowly opened my eyes but it was forced close again and this time I actually passed out. I woke up after what felt like a few minutes later. My eyes fluttered open as it tried adjusting to the bright light in the room. I looked around the room and my eyes soon landed on two nurses who were discussing.

It didn't take time before they noticed I was awake.

"How are you feeling now dear?" The nurse who was darker and slimmer than the one I was familiar with asked me sounding worried.

I managed to mutter that I was feeling better as I looked around for a clock, I found one and realized that I had been out for about an hour and the day was still young.

I still had a slight headache which I didn't bother much about. The nurse asked me a few questions after which she gave me some tablets of Paracetamol and Diclofenac.

"I think you can go back to your class now," the nurse I was familiar with said. My heart dropped at the mention of my class. I didn't want to go anywhere near my class.

"Can I please make a call with your phone?" I asked the dark nurse who had initially asked how I was doing since she seemed to be much nicer while the other seemed to be in a hurry to get rid of me.

"And why do need a phone?" The one who had initially requested my departure asked with a raised brow.

"Sure dear, it's not a problem," the dark nurse whom I had asked for her phone answered passing her colleague a 'don't worry' look.

She handed me her phone and I took in the expensive pack first before deciding who I wanted to call.

The first person that came to my mind was mom.

"Um... Excuse me, can I please make the call outside? I don't think there's cell reception here," I made an excuse to leave the room so that I could speak to my mother in private.

"I am sure there is plenty of cell reception here so you can either make the call or kindly return to your classroom," the lighter skinned nurse who had been addressed as Ifenyinwa told me.

"I don't think it's much of a problem..." The darker nurse who had handed me her phone started saying but kept mute after receiving a glare from Ifenyinwa.

I thought for a second, my mother hadn't really answered any of my calls for the past few days and she was less likely to answer a call from an unknown number. Yet I had this huge urge to just call her and lament about everything going on.

I really just wanted to go home and I was just about to blow the only chance I had to do so.

"Sorry ma, but can I make a small request?" I asked the dark nurse who nodded. Ifenyinwa just glared at the both of us before she continued what she had been doing.

"My mother changed her phone number recently and I don't know the new number by heart if you could be kind enough to give me a written permission, I could go to the hostel and get her number and maybe also call her from there."

"Sure," she said and proceeded to pick up a small sheet of paper. After a few seconds of scribbling, she handed me the note and I thanked her and Ifenyinwa (who didn't respond, not so surprising) before I left.

After getting to my room, I ransacked my wardrobe for the phone I had smuggled in. After a long search, I found it.

Checking to make sure no one was coming to check what was taking me so long, I hurriedly dialed my mother's number. I wasn't so sure she would pick the call since she hadn't answered any of my calls after Stephanie told me that I had to speak to her.

But according to Stephanie, she was coming home today which meant she should have been home by now. I tried calling her twice but she didn't answer any of the calls.

When I was about to call Stephanie, I saw an incoming call from her. I allowed it to ring twice before I answered.

"Hello mom?" I said.

"How are you doing?"

"I am not fine at all. I want to see you. Can you please accompany the driver to come and pick me up from school?"

"Okay, I'll ask Stephanie to come pick you. What's wrong?"

"Not Stephanie. Can you please come I really really want to see you?" I pleaded holding back tears threatening to fall.

"I can't, I am in California right now."

I kept quiet trying to process the statement she just made. Stephanie had mentioned that she travelled but hadn't really said where she travelled to and since she said she was coming back today, I just assumed that she didn't go very far.

"Aren't you coming back? Did your flight get cancelled?"

"Um... No," she said leaving me in confusion.

"What are you doing in California by the way?" I asked and she kept quiet for a while before replying.

"Um... I went to see your dad." I nodded even though she couldn't see me.

"We found Kylie and her mom..."

"I couldn't care any less about her. When are you returning?" I asked interrupting her. She fell silent for a while which made me wonder what was going on.

"Mum? Are you still there?"

"Yeah, it's just that... I have something to tell you."

"Okay, go on."

"Um... I don't know how you'll react to this but... Your dad and I got married."

I nodded and fell silent for a while still not processing what she said.

"And when was that?" I managed to ask.

I took in a breath. So mother dearest decided it was a wonderful idea to get married without informing her daughter.

'At least she married your father' my obnoxious subconscious reminded me.

"Okay, it's not a problem. Congratulations on getting married and getting a new home. I'll see you whenever you think it's necessary to come back to see your daughter. Bye."

"Alya..."

I ended the call.
