PUREBLOOD Chapter 10

"There you are."

Zuriña, who'd been standing outside trying to get a stretch as she examined the new view, turned to look at her siblings as they walked towards her. "Henry, Rietta." She called. Judging from the looks on their faces, she guessed they'd been looking for her.

"What were you doing?"

"Checking out the neighborhood. It's great, isn't it?"

"Yeah. At least, we've got those gangsters off our backs."Rietta said and Henry turned to pat her shoulder. "You miss our old neighborhood, right?"

"What?"

"This is where our new life begins. It's time to forget the past and get used to out new home, like grown ups, okay?" He asked.

"Can you please start acting like a normal elementary school kid for a change?"

"There's no need to wait out here for Father Michael. He'll be back after he gets whatever he forgot at the church."

"I...I'm not waiting for Father Michael."She stuttered, wondering how he always got to know things.

They had totally objected to the idea when Father had announced that they'd be moving. The kids had complained that they'd have to transfer schools and they'd be no playground for them.

Riña was particularly against the idea because he'd arrived at the idea all by himself and hadn't discussed anything with her. At least, she was more older and matured than the kids.

However, on seeing the new house, the kids had accepted it without complain and Riña could understand why. It was far better than their previous one, there was a nice playground a few blocks from theirs and it was more closer to their school.

Riña particularly liked the place, because she had her personal furnished room painted with her favorite color while the kids had theirs,a double bunk bedroom room.

"Do you like it?"Father had asked from her door and before he could respond, he'd turned to leave.

Father had particularly changed ever since then for reasons she couldn't understand. He'd played games and soccer with the kids, painted with them, celebrated their moving in with pizza, gone grocery shopping and got her oxblood which was the only meal she could take, which he never did before.

They'd even taken a family picture.

They'd all wondered ad asked if something good had happened to him recently but he'd denied it.

Zuriña sighed as she turned to head into her room. Her first drawer was opened and from where she stood she could see the crown of thorns.

Initially, the reason she wore it was because she was determined to bear the weight of her sins, the crown of thorns however ended up being her salvation.

"Riña, I've finished folding all the laundry."

"Okay, I'll be right there."She replied and headed for where the kids were.

"Let's eat something yummy when Father Michael gets back."

"Yay." Rietta beamed.

"Okay. Let's get burgers or cheese wraps today."She replied.

"When do you think Father Michael will come back?"Rietta asked.

"I'm sure he'll be back soon."

Sweat dripped down the priest's face as he blasted the vampire with a flame thrower.

"Ahhh...Help.... please."The burning vampire groaned in pains.

He'd killed three vampires so far and still had enough fuel to kill the rest.

The burning vampire turned to reach out to him but the priest was quick enough to blast him one more time, destroying the fuel canister which sent an explosion that did not only send the priest flying to a safe direction but shook the ground.

"Darn, that was the best weapon I had."He panted.

He felt a dark shadow cast over him and he raised his upper body in time to see a vampire looming over him. He slid out his gun and shot the man repeatedly on the stomach and dissipated, dropping his jacket.

He'd been an exceptional student during his training days. Soldiers had often commended his physical abilities, although he was an amateur when it came to using of guns. He'd been the only soldier who could shoot and meet the same target no matter how swift the target was.

Three vampires advanced towards him on the air and he had them down in a couple of minutes, with their jackets dropping to the floor as they dissipated.

"Hey, Father..." His head whipped round to see another group of vampires making their way towards him.

"The reason humans are weak are because they have to rely on flimsy weapons like that. What happened to your arrogance from before? Hmm?Now, you can't kill..."

A bullet pierced the man's heart and the man looked down at his injury before he raised his eyes to look at him.

"What have you done to...."

The priest cocked his gun. "A couple of years ago,the government finally succeeded in catching a mixed blood vampire and so they experimented on him. But they were forced to abandon that experiment due to interference from another mixed blood vampire..."

He'd been able to get information on vampires, through a friend of his who'd risked his life to get some journals relating to the experiment.

"...Despite the interference, they'd been able to figure out that coating acid with bullets makes a vampire unable to regenerate." He said just in time when the vampire disappeared.

"Hurry up and get that bastard."

"You're so dead." A vampire screamed as they lurched to attack.

"How arrogant all of you are. I bet you felt the world was your oyster because you suddenly gained some power. You should bear in mind that even the biggest of rocks will split eventually if enough water seeps into it's cracks."He said as he loaded the gun and aimed.

"You should have known your place."He said and fired.
