ZACK’S POV
I was able to bring the humanitarian self of mine out in the right time which was buried deep inside by the cold self of mine. I looked up to the sky and thanked my dad for still looking after me when the right time came.
“Let's do the right thing" I told myself and went back to Caroline who was in rest after the nurse had given her a sedation to get some rest from stress.
“The doctor’s looking for you" the nurse informed me and I went to her cabin to meet her. There, I was bewildered to see my mom with Mike, Zoe and their parents.
Mom saw me and came running to me and hugged me tight. She showered all that motherly love she could give me in that life changing moment of her son’s life and I melted into her arms life never before. Gosh, I felt so divine in her arms!!!
“I got to know everything son. How’s Caroline?? Did you meet her?? Did you talk to her??” she shot a lot of questions at me at once and I just smiled at her shocking everyone who’s eyes were on me, even the doctor.
“Why are you smiling?” Mike asked me in shock and I took a deep breath before starting to talk to them.
“No, we didn’t talk about the baby. She’s way too weak for that" I told them what happened and a heavy wave of tension spread around the room.
“Take a seat Zack " the doctor asked me to be seated and I did, next to her. Mom sat beside me and held my shoulders and I gave her my hand.
“Zack, I believe you understand the seriousness of the situation you both are in. In such cases, we usually involve the child protection services if we think the patient is not able to take effective decisions” she started to talk to me about the graveness of the issue and I was ready to hear it out.
“I do. And so does Caroline. Once she wakes up, we both will talk about it" I gave them a confident answer and I could see their eyes widen in surprise.
“But what do you think about it? What’s your stand on it?” mom asked me confused and I gave her a bright smile.
“It will be a herculean task but not for once we’ll think about aborting OUR baby" I told everyone my stand and I thought they would give me a surprised blank look but to my horror, they all had a proud look on their faces.
“I’m proud of you, my son. You took the right decision” mom hugged me and gave me a kiss on my forehead. Finally, I did the right thing!!!
“Zack, can we talk for a moment?” Mike and Zoe were way more worried than others and I nodded a yes to it and we 3 got out of the room for some time.
“I know what you worry about. I’ll have to do it” I knew what they wanted to talk about and told them.
“That’s the best decision you have ever taken Zack. For the sake of the baby, you both will have to find a way out" Zoe was the only one to understand me than Mike.
“But how can we trust her?? How can we believe that she won’t show her true colors which can affect your life ahead??” Mike’s concerns were valid as I and Caroline had a lot to deal with.
“I know. I haven’t thought about it but for now, my only concern is her and our baby’s health" I consoled them a d they kept their trust on me. By then, the nurse came to us and told that Caroline was awake and was calling for Zoe.
“Me?” Zoe was stunned to hear that and we all unbelievably walked to the causality room to meet Caroline.
“How you feeling?” Zoe asked her about her health first before they talked about anything else and Caroline told us she was fine.
“I wanted to apologize for everything once again Zoe. I don’t know why, but now I’m overwhelmed with a heavy guilt that I cannot bear anymore" tears again began to roll down her eyes as she talked to us and Zoe took her hands and gave her a smile.
“Hormone changes happen at this time and you have to deal with it" Mike was drowned in his phone as he was busy looking about pregnancy in google and we chuckled hearing that.
“It’s okay. I forgive you" without a second thought, Zoe forgave Caroline for everything and finally a tiny smile curved on her pale lips.
“Are my parents here?” in the next second, the smile vanished and worry spread around and I took control of the situation.
“Not yet. They told me to take care of you" I sat beside her and told her what her parents wish.
“Will you guys forgive me for everything and give me a second chance. I really regret all my actions and I know I was a total bitch. Please don’t hate me for that. Please" Caroline again broke into a pool of tears crying out begging forgiveness and I couldn’t help but fall for her innocent face again. She was in damn distress and I had to be with her.
“How shall we trust you, Caroline? How shall we believe that you won’t fuck up the second chance we give you" I asked her in a serious tone and she gave me a helpless look.
“For our baby, Zack. That’s all I can promise upon" she ran her hands down her tummy and promised on our kids name and that really caught my mind.
“Guys, whatever you decide, take your own time and decide. Don’t jump to decide what you must do and what not. I as far as I know, you will think twice about it tomorrow and I don’t want you to rush just to regret it" Zoe saw us rushing our decision and I was confused on what she meant.
“You mean we should take time?” I asked her doubtfully and she nodded.
“Yes, I want you both to take your own time and find your lost love again. None of us want to see you both unite just for baby’s sake” she advised us and that was to be thought about.
I didn’t love Caroline anymore and whatever I was thinking about was only about our child. I had to decide everything with maturity and not emotion. It was a matter of our lives and one wrong decision had the power to affects our families too.
“You’re right. Caroline, I forgive you for everything for our baby’s sake. But for us to unite, I need some time and till then, I’ll be responsible for you both" I believed that was the right thing to do and without any objection, Caroline agreed to it.
"Does it mean we are keeping the baby?” Caroline unbelievably asked all of us and we happily nodded a yes to it. Yes, we are keeping the baby!!
“I’m becoming a mom, you a dad, you an aunt and you an uncle" delightfulness bloomed on her face and she excitedly gave all of us our tags and we broke into laughter forgetting all our pasts and moved on for the next pace of our lives.
We made Caroline rest back and went back to doctor’s cabin. They looked at us for a decision and my face told them everything.
“Her parents have made my mother her guardian and from hereon, we’ll take care of her" I stood ahead to take the responsibility and mom sided me and was so excited to know about her grandchild.
“Congratulations them. You did a good job Zack " doctor praised me and I too felt proud of myself for making the right decision.
Everyone was happy about the news and no one had any more concern. Deep inside, all knew that it was a very unfortunate thing to happen in an age where we kids were to enjoy life and focus on our career. But everyone also knew that we were talking about a child here and that one of me and Caroline was of the age to take up the responsibility of the act so they simply trusted us and supported us in the new venture than out casting us from their lives for the incident.
Me and Caroline still had a long way to go and it was a new road for me to take and I firmly believed that it was the biggest roller-coaster ride I was going to take……
