Sortie, Angel of Death Chapter 5

“No matter how long you keep ignoring me, I’ll just keep asking.” The annoying brat said, I remained silent.

“Answer him already,” Willow whined. “I can’t sleep with him yakking non stop.” To which I growled while rolling my eyes.

“If we are going to to be spending time together we should have something to call each other. So, please just tell me.”

“Look here man baby, we are in this mess because of you. Also, if you want someone’s name you should ask nicely while telling your name. That’s the polite thing,” I groaned.

“Oh, you are right. I forgot, I am sorry. My name is Cedar Jame Vandor. Everyone just calls me C. J. though. What is yours, Miss vampire?”

“Don’t call me that. Call me Sortie.”

“Sortie?”

“Yup.”

“That’s just a word.”

“Yup.”

“Why?”

“Sortie means vengeance.”

“Okay?”

“That’s what everyone calls me since I became who I am. Period. Conversation over.”

“Actually, it’s not. I still have questions…Shorty.” I growled and yanked the wheel to the left slamming his head into the glass. “Damn it. Why would you do that?”

“Sortie, not shorty.”

“Yeah, so Shorty,” I growled low. “Where are we headed?”

“South.”

“I’m beginning to notice a pattern.”

“Great.”

“You don’t talk a whole lot,” to which Willow snickered.

“Yup.”

“Yeah, so that makes me think you have a problem with being around people.” I started to pull off onto the shoulder. “You talk to your dog like she talks to you.” Willow laughed hard. “Yet, you treat talking to me like it is bothersome.”

“It is,” is all I said before getting out of the truck’s cab. I stalked over to the passenger side and pulled the handle. Grabbing his shirt with both hand I lifted him up and out.

“Um, what are we doing?”

“We?” I shake my head as I slam his door after locking it. Walked back to my side.

“Wait you can’t leave me here!” His eyes widen in horror as the realization hit him. I stopped and looked back at him with a raised brow. “I don’t know where we are. I will die!”

“Drama Queen,” I sneered.

“What if I just stayed quiet?” he begged.

“I don’t believe you actually could.”

Nodding his head fiercely, “I can; I can I promise.”

“How old are you?”

“Uh, human years?”

“How else would you judge them?”

“Right, um, about Fifty five.” The sheepish look on his face made my muscles want to knock him out. “You?”

“Fifty-ish.”

“WOW, you look so young,” his eyes widen in shock.

“Stop. You look in your thirties, how is me looking young so strange?”

“It’s just I’ve never seem a female supernatural so young.”

“The amazing thing is that you are that old and still act like your a itty bitty child!”

“It’s not my fault!”

“Of course it’s not. It’s your parents’, right?”

“NO!”

“Get in the car and keep your bloody yap shut!” I snapped while stomping back to the drivers side before unlocking his door. When we were all settled, I pulled off to keep heading south. After we hit the new state’s line I found a rest stop to pull off in as the first rays reaching my eyes.

‘C. J.’ had been silent since the last pull off. Willow had not once tried to talk to me. She wouldn’t even sit near me. The fact that this man is disrupting my life style doesn’t seem to be bothering anyone BUT me. I was annoyed as I slammed the heavy metal door behind me, waking both passengers. I stalked off in a huff away from their eyes. I even went into the restroom, knowing they wouldn’t be able to follow. Not ever having to go to the bathroom I just used the time washing my hands around hundred times. Then stared at my pink tinted arms. Dang it! I didn’t put on my blasted coat. ‘I will be sore for days now.’ Resting my head on the cool glass of the mirror my eyes spotted the raw wound of the bite tinged with gray. Deciding to clean it thoroughly, I suds my palms and ran my left over the scarring making small circular motions. Scrapping nails over my forearm, I splash the water to rinse.

After around thirty minutes of playing in the rest stop center I walked out of the doors. Being greeted by the harsh sun I jogged back to my truck swaying through people. Grabbing the black leather I shrugged into the welcome relief. Fishing the tight gloves out of the pockets, I flexed them on while walked across the parking lot to the waiting man next to Willow.

“I couldn’t find a leash or collar for her,” he stated while nodding to Willow.

“Don’t have any.”

“I thought it was a law,” nervousness seeped through his voice.

“Don’t care. Listen, we have to travel at night. Seeing as your a wolf you should be happy with that plan.” He nodded his approval, like he had a choice. “During the day we will stay close to the highways we wont use any wooded areas to avoid any negative crossings of trackers. We need to blend in with travelers. Use this,” I hand him a vial from my inside jacket pocket. “It will help mask your scent.”

“Mask? Not eliminate?”

“Why would we want to not have a scent? To remove the scent will be suspicious for any others that we may pass during the day. This will bind the scent gland in your body from release any supernatural smells. Take a swig once a day. The only ones who with be able to smell your true scent is anyone this close to you.” I said while taking a step so close to him, it would like from anyone’s perspective behind us that we were kissing. I quickly stepped back, his eyes got wide before he could fix himself. “Got it?”

“I understand, Shorty.”

“I’m going to punch your gut,” I snarled. I quickly turned but, he had already took off running with Willow barking as she followed him. What to do… I ran after them. As we ran around the park like setting of the rest stop. Running at full human speed, I could barely reach his shirt. Willow jumped at me knocking me off balance for a second. Once I looked back up, C. J. was gone. I stopped looking around when out of no where I was pummeled to the ground.

Elbowing a shoulder and chest as my face started closing in on the ground. Right before my face felt the blades of grass I was flipped onto my side. Still being held closing to my attacker, who was hugging my back. Just as my mind began to comprehend what was likeliest to be happening at the moment, I felt teeth break through my skin. Sharp teeth. The pain hit me quickly, right before it disappear completely.

“What the HECK!” I screamed.

“Pay back Shorty,” was the reply before the weight behind me lifted and I saw C. J. run away. Growling I jumped up and started chase again. Willow came beside me as I continued.

“You are a traitor Willow,” I huffed out.

“Nope,” all she replied cheekily before running to the truck bed and jumping in. I groaned, rolling my eyes still chasing a weasel that was about to run out of track.

“YOU ARE MINE,” I yelled as I leapt on his back. Stumbling forward he started slowing his speed.

“Ha! Where to now, Shorty?” He smirked. Slapping the back of his head in response. “Oh really?” was the warning I received as he flopped onto his back,

“UGH, you are crushing me here!” I laugh while hitting his shoulders. He turns towards me quickly, right before a wet tongue licked down my temple to my jaw. “GROSS!” and just like that he bolted off in a new direction. Rubbing the nasty off my face I once again took pursuit after him.

We continued to play all day like children, before we knew it night had started to set. South was the way we continued. The Will-of-the-wisp would show randomly to prove the direction was correct. Luckily before the first wisp showed the two were out. Willow curled her body around his leg while resting her head on his lap. I kept getting scratched by her paws. C. J. laid his head on the rest behind him leaving his mouth open. So, I opened a window to let bugs in. As I was passing the fifth ball of blue I heard the passengers movement.

“What was that?” he voiced, gruff from just waking with an open mouth.

“What?”

“There was a blue fire ball in the air next to the road. You didn’t see it?”

“They lead me where I need to go. They are called will-of-the-wisp.”

“Really? Their real?”

“Honestly, I can’t believe you’d ask.”

“They lead me to where you two were yester night. I just didn’t know that’s what their called.”

I nodded, he reposition himself and drifted back to sleep.

Over the next day, we played during the day and I drove at night. Willow was becoming very attached to him, which worried me. I knew I’d have to kill him sooner or later. For Willow’s sake I’m starting to hope it will have to be later.
