Sortie, Angel of Death Chapter 8

The forest’s silence heighten my senses, Hearing farther then these two could I located the almost silent steps. I moved at full speed to a trunk not far from the shadow. I climbed the rough bark to get higher up, watching. I looked down where I left only to see a tree next to Willow. Of course hide in plain sight idiot nymph, I muttered in my own head. Willow crouched low, keeping her movements slow and fluid. I turned around quickly to keep watch on the intruder.

“You are certain they are this way?” a haggled old lady spoke.

“Yes,” I soft voice replied with a whistle. No mistaking it, it was a wisp she was talking to.

“Alright, alright I’m headed to them then.” Her voice sounded faintly familiar as she kept pace moving towards me. Willow started running full sprint at the old lady, just as Willow was about to jump the old lady reached a hand up. The simmer of the old acquainted magic streamed forwards making a block aid. Willow whimpered softly as she slid down the invisible shield. “Hello deary, I remember you child.” The old woman cooed to Willow. Willow looked up and started to wag her tail violently. “Now where is your charge? Sortie please show yourself,” the words echoed up the towards me as her head shot the same direction.

Jumping down I landed on my feet with out a sound. Standing straight I eyed the older woman. She reached a hand towards me smoothly. In that instant I felt a flash of wind whiz passed me while a dark blue wolf stood in her way. Snarling at the hand while lunging. The woman look taken back as she quickly swished her hand to the side with a leafy plant appearing out of no where. Her almost toothless grin brightened as we watched the wolf collapse back to the ground barring it’s teeth.

“You brought a Lycanthrope with you? Oh, my my my! This is not good. Did I mess up when I transformed you? How could you have a monster tag along with you…” She continued but I started to ignore her as the wolf bane she had in her extended hand kept whipping in the wolfs face. The wolf looked towards Willow for help, who was stepping behind the old maid to get away from the awful smell. He turned his eyes to me pleading as he seemed to be frozen in the spot he landed. His blue eyes shimmered with the pain of the smell. I sighed as the midnight wolf’s body shivered with what I assumed to be pain.

Interrupting the still going rant, “Look here Uyaga this,” pointing to the still upset mutt; “is the reason I came to find you.” Her eyes widen at my outburst with anger stewing in the dull depths of golden red eyes. Her eyes turned to the wolf on the ground for a minute before flipping her wrist back making the awful smelling plant vanish.

“Get up C. J.,” I spat out to the agitated wolf. Shaking his head at me to continue his toothy snarl. My voice deepened as I growled out, “I said stand on two NOW!” With a direction command his body morphed back to the annoying C. J.

“Oh my, oh my; Sortie I can see why you keep him around now.” The demented old hag announced. I rolled my eyes as I stepped towards her. If this idiot doesn’t know how to help I may lose it on her. Her magic can not hinder me as her fire sparks have these two, for in her plan to use me she need to ensure magic could not over come my body in any way.

“Look here nature spirit, this idiot is a mutt in multiple terms and is being hunted by his DAD a Lycanthrope.” She gasped, using her hand to cover her thin wrinkled lips.

“No!” the word spun out of control whipping around our bodies with a burning sensation. When the flames of magic died the smell of old wood flooded my nose. I did not need to look around to know where we were. Crazy old lady, my head mocked.

“Look he is Nymph and Lycanthrope. How would you not know this was happening! This makes my job a LOT HARDER!” My screams shook the foundation of the cabin we landed in.

Narrowing her eyes at me, “I heard tales but never knew they completed this archaic deed.” She snapped her head towards the man still looking around in awe. “You there, C. J. was it?” He nodded swiftly. “Your need to explain yourself.”

“Uyaga!” I scorned. “How is it his fault? He is a project of demented psycho’s! Now explained how this happened old woman!”

“DO NOT USE THAT TONE WITH ME MISSY!” The witch hissed.

“HA! Since you’ve lived pasted your time maybe I should just end your life here and NOW!”

With the Mutts

I sat looking around a while when we puffed here but now that these two kept yelling at each other I could not help but watch. Willow was sitting beside me far a while before just laying down and falling asleep. “Has Shorty lost her mind?” I linked to the snoring ball next to me. Which she did not answer. The witch’s power would swarm around them at time sizzling and creaking making it impossible to understand everything. One think I knew was these two are nuts. Shorty’s finger would point at me some times and other times at the small woman in front of her. The older one kept looking at me before swinging her hand over her head.

Out of no where a flaming ball moved towards my face I tried to move out of the way but my body would not respond. A whirling sound came from outside before all the window’s flung out. Temperature dropped low in that moment. With out missing a beat the two continued on as if nothing happened. I on the other hand felt like I was being suffocated. Looking around for an out, I saw a burnt spot on the ceiling that I had not seen the last time I looked around. Sighing out as the realization that somehow Shorty could manipulate wind for her bidding, and she saved me yet again. Shaking my head I stood tall. Taking a tentative step towards the two bickering powers. When the wind moved with me instead of holding me prisoner I let out a deep breath.

Making my way over to the two I stopped just out of arms length. I coughed like I was clearing my throat to try and nab their attention. Shorty glared at me with a clear look of annoyance, the other woman did not stop her bombardment of insults towards me and my existence. Waiting for a while I finally had enough, I came to the conclusion that I would intervene. “Ma'am?” I started as my eyes locked to the wrinkly old face. “My name is Cedar, mostly every one calls me C. J. and I was wondering if I could talk to you.” When her eyes hit mine I felt empty in my soul. “Is your name Uyaga?” I juddered trying to stop the over whelming pressure her eyes gave me.

“What’s it to you?” She snapped.

“I honestly just want to know why I am here.”

“The wisp brought you here. I assume to complete the job this one has not done.” She pointed to Shorty who was rolling her eyes.

“Could you possibly be wrong?”

“You are not worth the grain of salt to to ask why would the fates have any other plans.” Her statement made me lose all hope. I’m doomed and utterly speechless.

“Excuse you old hag but there are plenty of reasons he could be here. He didn’t even unlock his beasts until today. The furry one only showed when you did!” Shorty announced with venom in her voice.

“HA! You expect me to believe that, hooey; when your teeth are stained with blood. We both know HE IS the only ONE possible for that to be.” She jabbed her bony finger deep into my peck muscle.

“What about Willow?” I whimpered out.

“What about her?” They both snapped their murderous gaze in my direction.

“Well, she’s supernatural as well.”

“HA!” the old woman crackled, “Willow can not be drunk from by this Vampire.” Her smile sneered as she looked at Shorty. “You have told him nothing?”

“Why would I explain anything to this?” Shorty’s hand gestured to my whole body. I could not help but groan at the disdain I thought we already surpassed. The old lady’s eyes sharpened at my noise making me bolt still trying to lose any focus that she had on me.

“Let us test him,” the short witch announced. I shot Shorty a glance for help which she smiled to with a sharp tooth grin.

“Let us, may we figure out what you are actually purposed to be.” My heart sunk as I realized I am in major trouble. In my head I yelled out to Willow, who promptly plopped on my feet facing the two menacing monsters. I just stood still watching the three having some sort of start off. When it ended Willow got off my feet and left me with the couple who looked like they would kill me at any moment. The witch; who I am still unsure her name; lifted a wrinkled old fist towards my face. When her hand opened a flame danced with glee. I watched her carefully trying not to focus on the orange movements. She blew at the fire turning it to ash as it flowed towards my eyes on her garlic breath.

My eyes blackened as the ash hit me, my breathing swallowed, my knees buckled, and I fell flat on the old cabin’s wooden floor. A feeling of peace floated over me as I felt a paw and two hands touch my face and arms. I focused all my energy on Willow’s warm paw that was placed on my forehead as my wolf seemed to believe my alpha would never harm me on purpose.
