Tempted By The Playboy Chapter 24

DAMON'S POV.

I put on a silk shirt and the black dress pants that I packed for the charity ball I was invited to. I button my shirt, leaving the top button open, and put a tie around my neck. I've always loved my hair a quiff and headed out of the room in the most expensive hotel in New York City.

The charity ball was being hosted by Carter enterprises, owned by one of my friends. After thinking about it for a long time, whether to go or not, I decided to go. After all, I donated a hell lot of money for it.

The black R8 was waiting for me at the entrance of the hotel as I stepped out of the doors of the hotel. Paul, my driver, opened the door for me and I slid in. I pulled out my phone as Paul started to drive. I saw a text message from Mrs. Graham, a notable figure in my life that helped me through some of life's challenges.

Mrs. Graham: Honey, call me back. Please. I ignored the text and checked my emails.

There was one new email from my assistant saying that she had made an appointment with Zayn, a friend of mine, this Friday at noon.

Zayn was my friend and as well the CEO of my company. He took care of the deals with Asian countries. I replied to her and then shut my phone and looked out of the window, enjoying the night lights of New York City.

"Sir, we are here,” Paul said after a few minutes of the ride and I nodded at him. He got out of the car and walked around and opened my door. As I got out of the car, I'm almost blinded by thousands of lights from press cameras starting to flash.

"Mr. Damon Walter." I heard people calling out to me. I stopped and waved at them and then got inside.

Mr. Carter welcomed me and gave me a half hug. His wife also hugged me and I simply nodded at her.

"Welcome, Mr. Walter." They both said.

"Am I late?" I asked, even though I don't care if I was late or not.

"No, no. The ball has just started." Mr. Carter informed me. I nodded mutely. "Please, come. This way." He led the way to the stage.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to introduce to you all, our special guest tonight, Mr. Walter." A man said The crowd cheered for me and I waved at them.

I looked around, subconsciously searching the faces in the crowd. A Few senseless couples were making out while a few were dancing, and others were being businessmen.

My eye caught a man with a curly bush running behind a woman in a short black dress. I heard him calling her by her name, but didn't get what her name was.

Being a good human I got off the stage, excusing myself, and followed behind the curly man. Going behind them was just an excuse to get the hell out of there.

"Are you okay? What happened?" I heard from the other side of the wall and I walked that way.

"None of your business.” The girl snapped at him. Feisty. The voice seemed very familiar and when I saw who it was my heart skipped a million beats.

"Lucia?" I called out, unsure.

She turned around, her face showing nothing but anger. But when her beautiful brown eyes met my blue orbs, they widened. Her mouth opened as if she wanted to say something, but no words came out.

I found her, I found the love of my life. I found the woman whose heart I broke. I found her.

I felt ashamed of myself right now, seeing her gear-stricken face just broke my heart the more.

LUCY'S POV

I don't know what made me do this but I ran away. I ran away from him, I ran away from the situation I feared to face. I just ran away.

I don't know how long I ran and now I am sitting on a bench in a park. Why did he have to come back? Why did he have to come back into my life? Why? I began to sob.

I can't face him, he hurt me, broke me, and believed a chick over me.

You're such a sobbing mess! My subconscious snapped at me. My phone buzzed and when I looked at the caller, it was Liam. I ignored it and stared into space, but my phone kept buzzing. After a few minutes, it stopped, and then I received a message.

Liam: Where are you? Call me.

Once again ignoring the text, I started to walk back to my car. I need to get to my parent's place and pick up Emma and Evan.

Holy shit!

What if Damon finds them? Will he take them away from me? The thought of it sent a shiver down my spine and I clutched my throat in fear. He wouldn't do that, would he? Will he take away my kids if he finds out he's their father?

No!

I quickly made my way back to my car and relief washed over me when I saw there was no Damon or Harry on my tail. I quickly got into my car and zoomed off to my parent's house.

I parked the car in front of the house and hurried inside the house. Once I was at the door, I knocked continuously until my aunt opened the door for me.

"Hi, honey. How-" she started to speak but I cut her off and walked past her into the house in search of my kids.

Evan and Emma were sitting on the couch next to my dad and watching cartoons. When I entered, they noticed me and immediately ran to me. I knelt to their level and wrapped my arms around them, hugging them tightly as if someone would steal them away from me. No!

“Mommy? Are you okay?" Evan asked, pulling away from me. I then realized that I had tears running down my cheeks and he was wiping them for me.

"I'm okay. Let's get you guys home, shall we?" | asked and they nodded.

"Honey? Is everything alright?" My best friend asks.

"I'll tell you later, dad. I just want to go home and rest.” I sighed. He didn't argue further, just simply gave me a nod. Even though he was dying to know what was going on with me. Mum also didn't say anything and for that, I was very glad.

Once back at my place, I put both the kids to bed. Even after they were fast asleep, I kept staring at them. I was afraid that if I closed my eyes even for a second, and probably went to sleep, they wouldn't be here anymore when I woke up.

Morning came before I knew it and I woke up with a headache. It was Saturday and the day off. Thank god. I turned to look at the alarm clock on the nightstand and when my eyes fell on the clock, they widened.

It's noon and nobody woke me up. Not the kid, my maid. I hurried out of the bed and did the morning routine and headed downstairs.

Emma and Evan were sitting on the couch watching Tv and eating some cookies, I guess my maid made.

"Hey, guys,” I said. They both stopped eating and looked up at me. They were both quiet and for a second, I began to worry. "Why are you looking at me like that?" I asked them as I made myself comfortable next to them.

"Look who's up." I heard a voice and turned around to see Liam. What the hell is he doing here?

"I came here to see whether you're alive or not!" He snapped at me. Did I say that aloud?

"Yes. You did.” He says. Uh-oh.

"Liam, I am sorry. I just.... couldn't face him." I sighed.

“You could have picked up my call or at least replied to the text." He sighed this time and sat on the armrest of the couch. "I was so worried." He frowned and wrapped his arms around my shoulders.

"I'm okay." I smiled sadly at him.

"Did you talk to him?" He asked.

"No." Silence.

"Okay. I gotta go now. Now that I know you're fine, I am relieved. But I have plans with Sophia. So I'm gonna leave." He does this a lot, rambling.

"Okay, okay." I laughed. "Now go. Have fun and use protection.” I whispered the last part as my kids were around. He laughed in his usual way, carefree, and got off the couch. He kissed the kids on the head and then mine.

"Bye. Be careful.” He said and headed out of the house.

The rest of the afternoon passed with me watching Tv with the kids and doing my work as well. Oh, by the way, I work as an interior designer. I just help my boss with his dealings and design a few houses. It's fun and helps me pay the bills and all.

In the evening, I baked some cookies with the kids, and while at it, they both had flour all over their faces and I laughed quietly.

"Mommy! You're laughing at your prince.” Evan says to me furrowing his eyebrows making it seem like he's angry, but he's so cute!

"You are not a prince, Evan. Eric is a prince.” Emma said in a ‘duh’ tone and I laughed at them.

“Am I not a prince mommy?" Evan did a pout

"Of course, you are a prince, baby," I told him and he grinned from ear to ear then stuck his tongue out at his sister. I laughed at both of them, and they both joined me.

Our laughter was interrupted by the doorbell and I washed my hands before making my way to the door. The doorbell keeps ringing. Who the hell was that?

"I'm coming!" I shouted and walked faster. When the door opened, the face of the last person I had imagined to see came into view. He's the last person I want to see. My heart raced and all the anxiety from last night came running back.

"Didn't expect me here, did you?" He smirked.

"Missed me?" He asked and walked closer to me. I took a step back.

“What are you doing here?" I asked him. He locked his eyes with mine. His eyes showed so many emotions and I was very confused. He looked sad, he looked as if he was regretting something, and he looked vulnerable.

"Lucy, I-" He started, but was interrupted by a little voice.

"Mommy?" Emma walked into the living room where I and Damon were standing. My eyes widened when I noticed the both of them looking at each other.

"Hello, my name is Emma. Nice to meet you." She smiled shyly at him and walked to me and gripped my leg. "Did I say it correctly, mummy?" She asked.

"Yes, baby," I answered and picked her up into my arms.

"Did she just call you, mummy?" Damon's eyes were wide as saucers and sad.

"Yes. She did. Gotta problem?" I snapped at him.

"How could you do this to me, Lucia, don't you at least regret it?" He asked, loudly.

Seriously, he still dared to ask me foolish questions.

"Baby, can you and your brother go to your room? I will be there in a few minutes." I said to Emma. I didn't want my kids to see me fight with someone.

She nodded and I put her down on the ground. After a few minutes, Evan also came out of the kitchen and they both walked upstairs and into their room. Once I made sure that they were inside, I turned to Damon. His eyebrows were furrowed and he seemed angry.

Who gave him the right to be angry?

“What do you want, Damon?" I asked, my voice coming out coldly.

"First, answer my question. Why did you do all that? Wasn't I enough? Wasn't I making you happy?" He asked loudly.

"Keep your voice down!" I raised my voice. "It's been five years and you still believe that. I didn't do anything and I don't need to prove that to you." I gave my poker face and he sighed. "I know I was just a nanny affair, you don't have to rub it to my face."

"I know you didn't do anything." He said quietly and I furrowed my eyebrows at him. "The pictures that I saw were... fake."

Pictures? What pictures?

"The pictures that made me think you cheated on me." He said as if he read my mind. It made me uncomfortable knowing that he could read me like an open book. It was damn frustrating.

"I don't care anymore if a picture could make you divorce me, I can't accept any God-forsaken apology to take you back,” I said and turned away from him.

His fingers wrapped around my wrist and he pulled me to him, making me collide with his chest.

My heart raced out of my chest and I knew that Damon could feel that against his chest. I tried to wiggle out of his grip but that only made him tighten his grip on me. His arm snaked around my waist and pulled me even closer if that was possible.

"Let go, Damon," I said sternly.

"Not again.” He murmured disagreeing, his breath, fanning my face and his scent consuming the whole of me.

"Does this remind you of the first time we met?" He whispered in my ears leaving the familiar tingles.

"Leave me alone!" I pushed at his chest. This time he lets go. I was angry at myself that I was disappointed when he let me go.

"You moved on? Why didn't you wait for me?" He asked.

"I didn't move on!" I said, tears coming out at their own will.

"You have two kids!" He shouted. I didn't say anything and he seems to have realized something. Oh no!

"T-they are... they are... mine?" He stuttered and I turned away from him proving his point. He grabbed my arm rather harshly and I winced in pain. He turned me around and all the sadness in his eyes was replaced with anger.

"You didn't even bother to tell me? I am their father!" He shouted. Tears formed in my eyes because of his anger. It brought back memories of that day. “Why didn't you tell me?" He asked again. I pulled my hand out of his grip and looked into his eyes and started to speak.

"Did you let me? Did you let me tell you the happiest news we both had been waiting for?" I asked and he remained silent. "No, you didn't. You accused me of cheating when you were the one doing that. I didn't even know where I went wrong.” I sobbed and he remained silent.

"All these years, I tried to put myself in your shoes and think about what I did. I thought it was my mistake that jeopardized our relationship. I blamed myself. I still don't understand what I did to make you think that I was cheating on you." I sobbed continuously. He took a step forward but I stepped back and raised my hand to create some space between us.

"No, stay away." I pointed my finger at him. "They are my kids. And if you try to come into my life and take my kids away from me, I won't even-”

"Why would I take them away from you? I want all of you In my life!" He said and I started

to laugh.

"You're five years too late, Damon," I told him harshly.

"I know. I know I messed up, big time! But, please just let me make it up to you!" He begged and tried to step towards me. I raised my hand asking him to stop.

"No." I refused. He started to speak, but I interrupted him. "Leave Damon. Please just leave." I pleaded, sobbing uncontrollably.

“We'll talk again." He told me in an assuring tone. He came forward and kissed my forehead. I turned away from him.

"You are all that matters to me.” Those were the last words before he walked out of the door and all the tears in my body fell out.
