Betrothed to someone who wasn’t your mate was the most painful thing, that’s what I used to think until I tracked the pain in her beautiful eyes when my father called her whore and we broke our kiss.
Without saying a word to comfort Scarlett, I asked her to take a bath and walked to my father’s office where he was pacing here and there, distress and wrath plastered on his face. The moment our eyes locked, our wolves’ eyes flashed with golden hues and a loud growl escaped our mouths at the same time.
“What are you doing, guys?” Jenna rushed over to the office, our voice must have astounded her.
“Now, father and son are fighting because of that new girl who had joined our pack just yesterday,” my grandfather snarled, coming between us.
My father turned his face to Jenna and avoided glaring at me. “You should go back to your room, Jenna.” He ordered in his Alpha voice and she had to obey it. The relationships didn’t matter in our pack but the power.
“Why, dad? Just because I’m a girl, I’m not allowed to hear your conversation, I’m not even allowed to enter your office, huh? Marcus is also standing here but you didn’t ask him to leave,” Jenna grumbled, her words made me look at Marcus who was looking at me with pity.
All of us knew where this conversation would go and I’d make sure that the outcome of this conversation would startle them because I won’t do as they want anymore. I had found my mate and I would do anything to be with her. I'll break the engagement and fight for her.
“You’re disobeying your Alpha, girl,” my dad’s Alpha voice caused Jenna to quiver and her eyes twinkled with tears and hurt.
“I’m so sorry, Alpha Albert. For a moment, I thought that I was talking to my dad,” she lowered her head, plopping her right hand to her chest and crouching her legs slightly. “But I had perhaps lost him and guess what, I lost the hope today to ever get him back,” she taunted in mockery, raising her head and left right away.
My mom didn’t even bother to come to the office though she would be fretted as hell because she knew her husband and mate very well. Females were forbidden in the Alpha’s office, even his mate or daughter or sister.
“Who the heck do you think you are, Klaus? Who allowed you to let your whore enter my house?” As soon as the words came out of his mouth, I found myself gripping his throat.
Todd’s furs appeared on my hands, my palms turning into claws, and my father toiling to get out of my hold.
“You’re Alpha for a few days, I’m the Alpha for the next generation and nobody would disrespect my mate. Fuc-ing no one.” Todd’s animalistic voice echoed in the room and my grandfather galloped toward me to remove my grasp on my dad’s throat.
I was so furious and didn’t bother to fight with Todd, even my blood boiled at my dad’s words. No one had the right to insult our mate. Not even the Alpha or my father.
“You’re the real problem, here. The greed for power made you blind and you sacrificed your grandson’s happiness. Who the hell gave you the right to fix our engagement?” Todd left my dad and seized my grandfather’s throat.
My dad coughed for a good couple of minutes before going out of the office. I noticed everything from the corner of my eyes, I hadn’t shifted completely so I still had a hold on my body. I let Todd take over my body for a while so I could put them back into their places.
“I…did it…for…your…own good,” my grandpa managed to utter the words and before I could retort his bullshit excuse for what he did to me, my throat started scorching and my hold on his neck loosened as I struggled with the silver chain that whirled around my neck.
My hands burned as they came into contact with the silver. Tilting my head to find the person who dared to do that to me, I found my dad’s furious eyes glaring at me with disdain. Which father would do that to his own son?
Silver was poison for werewolves and he knew that if I wanted to kill him, I could. I just let Todd threaten them so they would stop messing with my personal matters but how could an Alpha let his ego hurt?
“You spoiled wolf. I’ll tame you and give a lesson to my son to control his wolf,” he snapped, tightening his grip on the silver chain. “Kneel to your Alpha,” he ordered in his Alpha voice that reverberated in the room for a few seconds.
I managed to stand still and looked into his eyes, clearly transgressing him. I mustered up all my strength and propelled that silver chain away from my body because my hands burned badly.
“I’m Todd Alexander Nelson. No one can tame me, I’ll take what belongs to me. And let me warn you, if you hurt my mate, I’ll shred your fuc-ing body,” my wolf’s prophecy made everyone bow at him instead.
I wondered why everyone would bow at me though I wasn’t crowned as an Alpha yet. Somehow the respect I received calmed me down and Todd went back again to the back of my mind, letting me take control of my body.
“I made a big mistake, my son,” my grandpa said mournfully and took my hands into his. “I’m clueless about how to fix this! Xavier will call war upon us if we deny your marriage and yesterday, we fixed your marriage along with your crown ceremony.”
“Marriage?” I questioned back, not believing what I heard from him.
He nodded, regret emerging from his eyes. I instantly took my hands back from his and turned my hands into a tight fist before punching the wall. The pain that I was feeling in my hand and throat was nothing compared to the sharp pain that stung my heart.
“You fuc-ing fixed my engagement, I said nothing. Now, you fuc-ing fix my marriage without even asking me? How can you do that? Does my life mean a joke to you?” I whined and shouted all my anger out at him.
Will I ever get control over my life?
Will I ever be able to live happily with my mate who had suffered through a lot and deserved the happiness?
“If we break your engagement or cancel the wedding, Xavier and Harold will call war upon us and you know our finances and warrior’s situation very well. We’ll lose against them, they’re the highest in the rank and we’re the lowest,” my grandpa explained, tapping my shoulder and leaving the office.
“What about my mate? I have a mate now,” I grumbled, groaning like a kid.
“I agree with your mom’s advice,” my father asserted before leaving me with Marcus who didn’t open his mouth the entire time.
My mom had sympathy for my mate, she wanted me to keep Scarlett with me so people would call her my mistress and I would never let that happen.
I'll reject her so she wouldn't have to go through the humiliation she would be put into if she would stay with me.
