Scarlett
Getting your ruthless and arrogant Alpha your servant for a night wasn’t a bad deal. Half of me wanted to know the reason behind his previous behavior toward me before giving him a second chance but I avoided the urge to do so.
“I can get whatever I need by myself, I don’t need you,” uttering this, I started sauntering inside the club and he also started striding along with me, hands in hands.
He wasn’t going to get me that easily, he can’t treat me however he wants and get me back whenever he wants. I’m his mate, not a toy. Even an Alpha didn’t have the right to treat me that way.
Clearing his throat, he spoke in a gentle voice, “I’m ashamed of what I did in the past. I apologize for that.”
My mouth dropped to the floor in awe, did he just apologize to me? I turned my face to the right to hide my freaking triumphant smile. “Did you say something, Alpha?” I decided to play dumb and hard to get. People don’t value the things they get easily.
“I…I’m sorry, my mate,” he pronounced soothingly and slowly. His eyebrows raised, seeking my response on getting called his mate. My lips parted and I stared at him foolishly, his soothing voice and the title that he used to address me swirled something in me.
Averting my gaze from him, I gained my composure back. I’m Scarlett Walkers, the daughter of a Gamma and a born fighter, I couldn’t give in. He had hurt me, my feelings, and my dignity.
“Such a shame on me! My mate introduces me as his friend to his pack and calls me ‘my mate’ in private so he can flirt with the girls in front of me,” I said with bitterness, maintaining a smile on my face still.
I didn’t look at him to gauge his reaction, he never cared for me and I had learned not to give a fu-k about your mate from him only. When he embraced the silence, I loosened my grip on his hand.
“Maybe I’m not a deserving mate so he's too ashamed to tell anyone that I’m his mate,” I prompted. The tears threatened to fall as I said those words, he was an Alpha and expected an Alpha mate perhaps.
His proximity became excruciating for me so I untangled my hand from his and started walking toward the bar but as I took two steps forwards, he grabbed my hand and forced me to stop walking ahead. I had learned to recognize his touch as it always commenced the electricity in my veins that I was unaware of its existence.
Strolling to stand in front of me, he held my hand in between his both hands. “I’m sorry, Scarlett. I’m offering you my most sincere apologies, besides that, I understand your concern. I just hope and wish that you can give me a second chance.”
I reluctantly took my hand back from him, controlling my desire to hold his hand and stand by his side for the rest of the night. “You’ll have to earn that second chance and be the deserving one to have it. You clearly don’t understand my concern, I don’t need your words.”
“Please. Accept my offer and give me a chance to show you my sincere intentions,” he said, bowing his head to me. He had earned us the attention of all the presented people in the club and I couldn’t feel more uncomfortable with everyone’s gaze at us, the club filled with gasps and haws.
“The Alpha is bowing to the new trainer.”
“I doubt he is sober.”
“How does she get his attention all the time?’
“Please, pinch me, is it real or I’m dreaming?”
The whispers spread out in the room and I had that invisible power like Alphas to hear ten times better than any other werewolves. Klaus also could hear them, I was sure but he had his head bowed still.
“Please, raise your head, Klaus,” I whispered to him, urging him to stand straight and get us out of the way.
He didn’t hoist his head and mumbled, “did you accept my apology?”
“Ugh…yes. Now, standstill. Quick.” I commanded, annoyed by his stunt.
He lifted his head with a beaming smile and I couldn’t help but feel flushed. “Thank you, Scarlett. I promise you that you’ll get a mate who deserves you and I intend to be that one.” His voice had sincerity and he didn’t bother with everyone’s eyes on us.
“They are watching,” I whispered, pretending to scratch my head and hide my face.
Klaus moved closer to me and tucked a loose strand of my hair behind my hair. “I know, darling,” he murmured in my ear and I couldn’t restrain the sensations from running into my body.
Facing everyone, he strolled to the bar and grabbed a bottle of champagne with two flutes in his other free hand, and walked back to me with a wide grin plastered on his face.
His smile was as gracious and gorgeous as he was and as I had imagined. My heart raced, seeing him smiling and ambling toward me. His chocolaty brown eyes were fixated on me, his hair combed in a puff and the crisp black suit exuded a mesmerizing aura.
I lowered my head, not being able to anticipate his moves and uncomfortable with the public’s eyes and chattering. Placing the champagne and flutes on the table, he extended his hand to get my hand.
“What are you doing, Klaus?” I asked in a hushed tone.
“You’ll know,” he assured me and his eyes gestured to me to accept his hand so I did. He cleared his throat and faced us in the crowd. I saw Marcus and Scarlett standing together with unreadable expressions on their faces, bewilderment perhaps.
“Attention, everyone,” he demanded in his Alpha voice as if we didn’t have it already. I had to leave the urge to roll my eyes at his idiocy. All the whispers evaporated from the room as he spoke.,
“I’d like to introduce my mate to my pack- Scarlett Walkers. I had some troubles in the past accepting the mate bond so I decided to lie to you guys that she was just my friend but she’s more than that, she is my mate and your future Luna. As kind as your Luna is, she has forgiven me and I hope that we can live in harmony in the future,” he finished his announcement and my heart went haywire.
I didn’t dare to look at anyone, attention never caught my fancy. I had tried my best to avoid the attention that I got due to my father being a Gamma and the Alpha being my mother’s brother in my pack but my mate had showered me with the attention.
“I was never ashamed to accept you as my mate, I was scared of losing you,” he said honestly before tossing the champagne and filling two glasses with the champagne.
He offered me one glass which I reluctantly accepted and held another in his hand. “To my mate,” he raised a toast and after a few seconds, the club echoed with applause.
From his eyes, he instructed me to raise my flute so we could clink our glasses.
Klaus had literally made me shut my mouth by his actions. My consciousness liked that he was trying to impress me with his actions rather than his words and that’s what I meant when I said that I didn’t need his words but now, I wasn’t a fan of attention.
We clinked our champagne flutes though I had to manage a smile on my face despite the constant glaring from the mateless girls piercing my face.
Swallowing the Champagne in one go, I excused myself, “I need some fresh air, excuse me.” I didn’t wait for Klaus’s approval and started walking towards the back door, hoping that it would lead me to a place with no people.
I had planned to get drunk and dance and enjoy for a while, forgetting all the miseries of my life but I felt like I invited one more problem by myself.
“Not liking what happened, I assume,” Marcus’s amused voice made me sigh and I turned to see him coming towards me with a bottle of vodka in his hand and three buttons of his white shirt undone implying his drunken state.
