The Billionaire's Architect Chapter 9

“Where are we going?” I told Gray while he held my hand and pulled me out of our office, carrying my things.

The students are staring at us or I should say that they are staring at Gray because he was oozing with so much appeal. He was only wearing a v-neck white shirt, jogger pants, and white shoes, and he styled his hair in a messy fringe.

He was holding my hand with a wide smile on his face. He was thinking of something really nice that he doesn’t want to share with me.

“What? Why are you smiling like that?” I asked, curiously.

He let go of my hand for me to swipe my I.D and he grabbed it again, intertwined it, and we slowly walked to the parking lot, swaying hands. Damn! This looks like a scene from a story that I am writing. Gosh! I can’t believe this is happening to me right now. I am looking forward to a lot of moments with Gray that I can turn into a story.

“We are going on a road trip,” he said as he opened the door of his car for me. I glanced at it and realized that he’s using a new car.

“How many cars do you have?” I curiously asked. “Is this yours?” I said, pertaining to his Audi. The last time he used his Range Rover. I wondered how many cars he owns. Come to think of it, I don’t even know about his family business or should I prepare myself if he turned out to be the son of a CEO of a big company?

I laughed at my thought. Ugh! I still feel like a princess in a fairytale story.

“I owned some…” He nodded a bit.

“What do you mean by that?” I said as I sat on the passenger seat. “Are you the son of a CEO? Please do inform me…” He shrugged, closed the door, and hurriedly sat on the driver’s seat. “So, inform me because some lady might come into our house and offer me money to stay away from you.”

Gray laughed at me. He leaned closer and pulled the seatbelt and locked it before turning the engine. “What made you think of that?”

“I don’t know. I just thought about it. Am I right?” I eyed him. “Come on. I don’t want to be surprised if you turn out to be like that. I haven’t met your--”

“You will meet them soon, babe!” He assured me. “By then, be the judge if I am a prince from a fairytale story.”

“Just please don’t have an evil sister or an evil stepmother,” I joked to which we both laughed.

“Perhaps, an evil brother,” he commented and I felt the bitterness in his voice.

“Oh. Is that for real?”

He held my left hand while his left hand was maneuvering the steering wheel and he focused his sight on the road. I didn’t remove my gaze from him and was surveying him as his expression suddenly changed with the thought of his brother.

“Are you not okay with your brother?”

He smiled a bit. “You’ll know soon, babe. Okay? For now, let’s go and enjoy ourselves. This is our night.”

I nodded yet wasn’t convinced. I want to know but he already changed the topic.

“How about you? Should I be concerned, too?” He asked back.

“No, no. I didn’t come from a rich family,” I answered. “We’re in the middle,” I told him. “Don’t worry, you’ll meet my parents when they come back to the Philippines.”

“Are they already staying in another country?”

“Yeah. They migrated and I was left alone here.”

“Why not join them?”

I shrugged. “I don’t know. I like living here in our country,” I said, looking around the street lights as we moved along the roads. The sun was starting to set and cars were already moving slowly. “Traffic sucks, yet I think I would love it here more than in another place.”

“How would you know if you haven’t tried?”

“Do you want me to go there and leave you?” I fired back.

He glanced at me and shrugged his head. “I mean, before? When we haven’t met?”

“Hmmm…” I thought. “I stayed there during vacation and I guess that’s already enough for me to know that I don’t like living there.”

“It’s a good choice. If you leave, we won't meet.”

“I agree, though, do you think we will not meet?” I asked. “Say, we live in different places. Is there a possibility that we are going to meet?”

“Maybe?” He replied. “I don’t know.”

I don’t know, either. I used to think about it. Not because I want to write a story about it, but it’s more like I am curious as to how destiny or fate works. I mean, how would you know if he is already your destiny?

We’ve met a lot of people on our journey and it’s just amazing that among all those people is our destiny. But, I don’t know. How would we know about it? Are there some kind of signs? What are you going to feel? Will the universe tell you that? I mean, you can label all the guys you’ve met as your destiny.

Is Gray already my destiny?

“What are you thinking?” He asked after a minute of silence between us.

“Destiny. How would you know if you are destined?”

“I don’t know if we are destined or what,” he gave me side glances while still driving. I looked outside and realized we’re driving on a familiar road.

“Are we going to the place I am thinking we’re going?” I couldn't help but ask.

“Lyuna told me about your favorite place so just sit back and sleep. I’ll wake you up when we are already there…”

“Oh my gosh!” I am so happy I instantly kissed him on his cheeks.

He chuckled. “C’mon, kiss me later when I am not driving, okay? You are teasing me…”

I laughed.

“Oh, anyway, babe…” He said.

“Yes?” I looked at him.

“It’s serendipity.”

“What do you mean?”

“What we have is really unexpected. It was like an accident, only that, it’s a beautiful accident.” He described our meeting better than what I was thinking. I used to think about destiny, yet it seems to me that serendipity is more appropriate for us. Can it not be both? Nevertheless, I am really grateful to have him in my life.

“You know what,” I told him. “I really like you.”

“I know. I am handsome,” he grinned and kissed the back of my palm. “I like you more than you’ll ever know.”

He turned on his player and played a song until I fell asleep while holding his hand.
