Many years ago, my biological parents were brutally murdered by ambitious babes who stole their essences from Pure and everything powerful that existed in our blood. All because of greed. They planned for years that rebellion and when it happened, my brother and I were the only survivors of the bloodbath that destroyed our pack.
My Labonair descent is a royal line of werewolves that was referred to as having existed since the beginning of the supernatural species, the first clan of wolves to exist, stronger, powerful, and invincible.
The famous Thoroughbred Werewolves.
The lineage is identified by a birthmark in the shape of a crescent moon, in a reddish hue, symbolizing the Blood Moon for the Pure, which appears on the back of the neck of those who share their lineage.
My brother and I are the only survivors left of our bloodline. Because of this, we were forced to flee and live as nomads. I, as the last pure female, was at constant risk. I learned the hard way to stay alive, to preserve my own safety and that of my family.
The bloodline was considered royalty among werewolves due to this birthright and also led the Labonairs to have many enemies, even among werewolves. However, discord began to grow between the Labonairs and the other clan lineages, leading to internal conflicts between werewolves. Our species was divided, many of our people were dissatisfied and revolted with our leadership and were moved by these feelings, causing a great revolt and our union was breaking.
The packs went to war, seeking more power and dominance, even among the Labonairs themselves, causing the extinction of our species. Every Pure One who existed had been killed during the days of the rebellion.
It was a massacre that will be marked with blood forever in our history. The day that greed and ambition decimated a kind of creature.
A Pureblood has abilities superior to an ordinary wolf.
We can control our transformation and use our powers in human form. We are immortal beings, we live for years, decades, and even centuries, we can only be killed by decapitation, fire, or a pure silver dagger. We have difficulties living in packs because we have problems in being submissive to our alphas, we are extremely dominant. We age to a certain age, and then we are frozen in time, and we continue to look the same as long as we live.
The Pure feel more at ease in their animal form because of our instincts. I was used to spending most of my days in lupine form, running and hunting through the forest.
It was a way of not succumbing to the dark abyss that surrounded me, waiting only for a moment of weakness to swallow me with its darkness.
When our parents were killed, Aiden and I became targets for hunting, but Melissa and Peter Blake, faithful and loyal friends to my parents, helped us escape and adopted us as their children. We were forced to join a hectic life, always on the run, traveling all over the world, in search of a place to call home. Currently, we have taken shelter in a small village in the mountains, among a pack of wolves isolated from humans.
I had to change my name before they called me Arabella Labonair, daughter of Alphas, a legitimate Pure, but now she was the simple Hayley Blake, a rebellious and lonely beta with no power or value. My identity should be protected at all costs.
Our village was in a large clearing in the middle of the forest. The houses were average, small chalets, and some preferred to live in tents. It was a comfortable place to live in nature. Free from nosy humans and ridiculous societies.
Heads turned towards us, surprised to see me after weeks of hunting through the forests, and curious to learn more about the injured Kitsune in my brother’s arms. Aiden and I ignored everyone like we always did.
Peter should have felt my presence or the unfamiliar smell of Kitsune, as I saw him hurrying towards us, trying to put his brown wires in place.
He opened his arms as he approached me and wrapped me in a bear hug.
— You gave us such a fright, Hayley, why didn’t you check in during those two months, girl? — He asked, hugging me stronger, with the same overwhelming force of Aiden that took my air.
— I’m alive, aren’t I? — I grunt out of breath because of your embrace.
— By the Moon! Someone, help me here! — I heard Aiden’s voice behind me sound alarmed, I shuddered at his tone. I walked away from Peter and walked to my brother, seeing his worried expression.
— She’s burning up in fever. Her wounds aren’t healing.
Shit! — I cursed, altered, I’ll clench my teeth when I feel your temperature rise.
— What happened? — Peter asked, wondering the female’s presence, her eyes flickered quickly. — Who is she? And why is she all bruised? — A crease formed on his brow of confusion.
— They destroyed the village of the Kitsunes and killed them all. This woman is the only survivor. — I explained quickly and he arched his eyebrows.
— Why would anyone do that? — Shifted his gaze between me and Aiden, closing them minimally. — Hunters? — Suggested.
I raised my shoulders, chewing the corner of my lips with my teeth.
— Only she has the answer about that massacre, we need to help her. — I declared, and he agreed, giving us space to enter the house. — But hunters couldn’t take all these Kitsunes. I exposed my suspicions.
As I passed through the door, I felt a thin body throw itself against my body, I immediately recognized those brown wires.
— Hayley, I thought you were dead and didn’t even have the dispatch to say goodbye. — Grunted the brunette crushing me and I smiled sideways.
— And who would take lilies to my burial? — I inquired by turning away from her and staring at her lively green eyes.
Becca flicked my nose.
— You and your terrible mood. — Hit me on the shoulder.
I ran my hand across my face.
— I need your help. — I spoke and saw your posture stiffen. Becca tensed to see Aiden entering with the fox unconscious in his arms. I need you to save her.
After she and Aiden bonded, my brother shared his power and dominance with Rebecca. In matters of skill, she was close to a Pure.
— I will do my best to help her. Take the fox up. — Ordered her up the stairs, assuming a rigid posture, we followed her right behind. Rebecca went to the guest room and entered, opening the door for Aiden to enter.
— Put her on the mattress. — Pointed to bed, where Aiden put Kitsune carefully. — I’ll need my herbs, bring in large quantities.
My brother nodded, panting. Aiden jumped out the window and ran.
"Wouldn’t it be easier to use the door?"
We always go out the window, and you don’t complain.
— Hayley, I need cold water for the fever and some clean towels to clean the wounds. — He did, and I nodded, not daring to question.
I went downstairs and found Melissa and Peter talking. Melissa saw me and ran to give me a strong hug.
I needed to remember not to spend so much time hunting and leave my family without news, had almost killed them from the heart. And that it was only two months.
— Please, dear, don’t spend so much time outside. — Asked her to squeeze me, I felt her relief to see me.
— I promise. — I agreed, and she let me go, caressing my face. — I need clean towels, I take the water.
I went to the pantry and took a ceramic bowl and filled it with cold water, going back to the guest room. Melissa was already helping Rebecca. She took a towel and wet it, putting it on Kitsune’s forehead. I sat on the edge of the bed and took a wet cloth, wiping a little of the fox’s blood— stained face.
— It’s really a tragedy what happened to her. — Becca said in a low tone. — Do you believe that what happened will reach us?
— No. — I said with a firm voice. — No one will get hurt here.
"I have a bad feeling. I can’t explain it, but something bad will happen."
My body shook, a chill ran down my spine. I felt the weight of keeping that village safe on my shoulders. In case anything happened, I’d be to blame. Harboring Aiden and I were dangerous, and we put a target in that pack by living with them.
— Hayley, go take a shower, girl. You’re very dirty. — Melissa almost begged, I stared at her, brow furrowed.
— And it stinks. Added Rebecca shaking her hand below her nose.
I grimaced in response, rolling my eyes as I left the room, going to my room. He was the same way I left him two months ago. I took a clean towel and went into the bathroom.
