The Rejected Mate Chapter 17

I woke up the next day feeling restless. Being fired from Mondragon's company was not something I was proud of, but I had to move on and find another job. I freshened up and got dressed, ready to face the world again.

As I made my way to the door, I was blocked by Alpha Blake. I tried to walk past him, but he stopped me.

"Hey, wait a minute. I was expecting you to thank me," he said with a smirk.

I raised an eyebrow. "Thank you for what?"

"For stopping my rogue from taking their anger out on you yesterday."

I couldn't help but roll my eyes. "I wouldn't have backed down, regardless. And instead of bugging me, why don't you face your half-human mate?"

Blake's eyes widened in shock. "What do you mean by that?"

But before I could answer, someone called out my name. I turned around to see Miranda, she was standing a distance, smiling and waving at me.

I shook my head at Blake and left him standing there as I made my way over to Miranda.

"Hey, Miranda. How are you?" I asked, smiling.

"I'm good, thanks. I heard about what happened to you at the company," she said, concern etched on her face.

I nodded, grateful that someone believed me. "Yeah, I don't know how that danger got into my bag. But I'm just glad I'm okay."

Miranda nodded in agreement. "I believe you. And if you don't mind, I know of a coffee shop nearby. We could go there and catch up."

I smiled, feeling grateful for her company. "That sounds great, Miranda. Lead the way."

As we walked to the coffee shop, Miranda and I chatted about everything and anything. She was a great listener and I found myself opening up to her about my struggles with finding a new job.

"I actually heard that there's a new job opening at a coffee shop down the street," she said, sipping her latte. "I know the owner and I could put in a good word for you."

My eyes widened in surprise. "Really? That would be amazing, Miranda. Thank you so much."

She smiled. "No problem. We look out for each other, right?"

I nodded, feeling grateful for her friendship. With her help, maybe things were starting to look up for me after all.

As we walked into the coffee shop, I couldn't believe how luxurious it looked. The furniture and decor were so elegant, it was like walking into a high-end hotel. I turned to Miranda, stunned, and asked how she knew the person who owned the place.

"It's a long story, I'll tell you later," she said with a smile.

I noticed the staff working there were all werewolves, and that didn't sit well with me, but I control myself. As we approached the manager's desk, I couldn't help but notice how handsome he was. I tried to compose myself as Miranda introduced me and explained my situation.

The manager didn't even bother to interview me, he just told me to start working immediately. I was stunned and didn't know what to say. As he walked away, I grabbed Miranda's hand and dragged her outside the shop.

"What is the meaning of this, Miranda?" I asked, frustrated. "You know what happened to me at Mondragon's company. How can you just expect me to work for another werewolf-owned company without knowing which pack they belong to?"

Miranda looked at me, her expression serious. "I'm doing this for your own good, Sophia. I know what happened to you yesterday with your kidnapping, and I want to keep you safe."

I was shocked that Miranda knew about my kidnapping. I had never told anyone about it.

"What! How do you know about that?" I asked, confused.

"I followed you yesterday, but before I could mention your name, two men attacked you from behind and took you away. Though, I did not see their faces and sorry that I couldn't safe you," she said cryptically. "But trust me, Sophia. This job is a good opportunity for you. The manager is a good guy and he'll treat you well. And working with werewolves, you'll be safe from any harm that might come your way."

I sighed, don't know what to say. Because Miranda, came to my place this morning as if she knew I was at home. I hide my feelings, from her because I don't think I can trust her again. "Okay, I'll do it. But promise me you'll tell me everything about this place and the owner later."

Miranda nodded, relieved. "I promise. And don't worry, Sophia. Everything will be okay."

I walked into the staff room and quickly changed into the uniform provided for me. It was a simple black dress with the coffee shop logo on the front. As I walked out of the room, I noticed Maria looking at me sternly.

Maria, is the head of staffs in that coffee shop.

"Go serve the customers their coffee," she said, pointing to the group of people who had just walked in.

I took a deep breath and walked up to the customers, holding a book and pen to take their orders. They all seemed to be regulars and knew exactly what they wanted. I quickly jotted down their orders and went to the barista to place them.

As I was waiting for the orders to be prepared, I couldn't help but think about how Miranda knew about this coffee shop. I had never heard of it before, and I didn't recognize the scent of the werewolves working there.

My thoughts were interrupted as Maria called me over to serve the customers their coffee. I carried the tray of hot drinks to the table and served each person their order.

"Thank you," they all said politely, and I smiled back at them.

As the morning went on, the coffee shop became more and more busy. I found myself getting into a rhythm of taking orders, serving coffee, and cleaning tables.

Despite my initial reservations, I was actually starting to enjoy myself. The customers were friendly, and the staff seemed to be getting along well.

As the afternoon approached, the coffee shop began to quiet down. Maria called me over and told me I could take a break.

"Thank you," I said, grateful for the chance to rest.

As I sat down, I couldn't help but think about Miranda and how she had managed to get me this job. I knew I needed to talk to her and find out everything she knew about the coffee shop and its owner.

But for now, I was just glad to have a job and be surrounded by other werewolves who seemed to understand me.
