ParthaSarathy was an early member of the Rajadurai Party when it was started. As he was educated and intelligent, Rajadurai had given the main responsibility in the party to him. It was at that time Selvarangan joined as one of Rajadurai's aides. Selvarangan, who joined the party, in a short period of time due to his faith, sincerity he began to grow and develop parallel to the ParthaSarathy within the party. It caused a lot of frustration for ParthaSarathy in the early days.
Although he was happy with the promotions he got but could not tolerate when Rajathurai appreciated Selvarangan who he thought was unworthy of parallel promotions. However, over time, worse people came to politics than Selvarangan and he came to realize the need for Selvarangan and began to appreciate his friendship with Selvarangan. The two families became closer families when his wife befriended Selvarangan’s wife Gnanam. Somehow RamaKrishna alone could not be tolerated by Selvarangan’s family. RamaKrishna too, did not like a slave who was growing up as equal to his son-in-law. So in this friendship RamaKrishna was a little apart.
Both had children. Uday, the eldest son of Selvarangan was educated to some extent but grew up to be another Selvarangan in many respects. But Nirmal Akash, the son of ParthaSarathy, who was born a month apart, and Karthi, the son of Selvarangan, whom were born a month apart, were well-informed. ParthaSarathy felt that it had put both families in a precarious position. He was very proud of his son's intellect. He was educated at the Ooty Convent and was proud of the fact that he did not give up his topper position in any exam, from the day he joined the convent until the day he came out. The two family friendships deepened.
But Uday's growth was very disturbing to RamaKrishna. When he become a bit more popular as a Member of Parliament, he would always tell his son-in-law, “He has strengthened his eldest son in the central ministry. He has better goodwill in the state than you. Rajadurai also trusts him more than you. All this is not good. ”
The truth in his words always hurted ParthaSarathy. He is far superior to Selvarangan in terms of managerial ability. But in the political arena, Selvarangan had a good reputation with people and Rajathurai. There were reasons for that. Selvarangan was always ready to do whatever it takes and was a workaholic. He had a passion for grassroots volunteers and people. He did not forget that 'he too came from there'. His second son did not let him forget that fact. He has done many good things for the people.
The grassroots volunteers and the grassroots people always soured to ParthaSarathy. He could not get much closer to them. He has become accustomed to being at the ivory tower because RamaKrishna usually handles work at the grassroots level. And in general he was less talkative and could not get as close to Rajadurai as Selvarangan. Selvarangan would rightfully go to Rajathurai and ask for advice on whatever problem he had, as well as he was ready to do whatever it takes at any base and do anything for Rajathurai. ParthaSarathy could not do both. In some ways, ParthaSarathy was pushed behind Selvarangan. This also affected his 'ego'
He was shocked when his son was pushed behind Selvarangan's son after joining the college. He did not expect this at all. He knew Karthi is awesome. But he did not know that he was so intelligent. A professor who became a fan of him also praised him in many universities, recommended him to many and made him speak in many colleges and intellectual forums. Thus Nirmal Akash's reputation waned as Karthi's fame soared in many ways. He was able to withstand other setbacks but could not bear the setback of his only son, the wise son.
At that point Rajadurai had a heart attack. Doctors said he would not tolerate another heart attack. The only daughter of Rajadurai became a US citizen and stayed permanently with her husband. Therefore, in the absence of family heirs as political heirs, RamaKrishna wanted to see his son-in-law as the Chief Minister, as the ministers next to Rajadurai could be the next Chief Minister. So he thought it was necessary for his son-in-law, who is now almost retreating from equilibrium, to come forward. He kept telling his son-in-law from time to time that he should drag down Selvarangan.
Meanwhile ParthaSarathy and RamaKrishna noticed that Nirmal Akash, who had been dull till that day, started spreading happiness on his face. ParthaSarathy understood that the son was in love with someone. One day Harini had come to congratulate him on his birthday. Then the familiar boom on Nirmal Akash's face told him that she was the woman he loved.
"The girl's father died. Her mother works for an insurance company, ”said RamaKrishna bitterly.
ParthaSarathy said, "Don’t talk about status uncle. If he loves her that’s enough”
“At the age of twenty-three, what is the urgency of marriage now?”
“If he likes her, we shouldn't say anything else"
RamaKrishna sighed. He thought of matrimonial alliance with a relative from his second daughter’s side who is the only heir to a multi-crore property in Secunderabad. But he also realized that it was not necessary to look at status and property at all, as their own property had been added for generations. Slowly talked with his grandson one day. He understood that he has fallen in love with Harini but she had initially fallen in love with Karthi and now they have fallen apart. After asking some more questions and getting answers he left thinking a lot and talked to ParthaSarathy alone.
"The girl has not yet forgotten Karthi. It seems like one of their couple’s in love fights. If the situation becomes normal between them they will be lovers again. Alas, your son doesn’t know it yet.”
For ParthaSarathy it was shocking. He did not understand why fate is always in favor of Selvarangan only. The thought of having to see the pain on his son's face again was unbearable for him.
"There is a way to fix everything," RamaKrishna said.
ParthaSarathy looked like what it was.
"If Karthi dies, everything will be fine,"
ParthaSarathy asked, "When he will die, When everything is going to be alright? ”
ParthaSarathy looked at him questioningly when his uncle said, "There are lot of accidents happening these days"
RamaKrishna said, “Look. If Rajadurai dies tomorrow, Selvarangan will be the next Chief Minister in today’s prevailing environment. His son is a Union Minister. His youngest son will happily marry that girl. His knowledge will make him do anything and everything. He will be famous. Selvarangan family will be in the sky, your boy will be without address. You will be in a similar situation. Do you want this?”
It was horrifying to think what he had said to the ParathaSarathy. RamaKrishna did not let the nephew think throughout. He continued.
“There is a hired killer I know. He had committed several murders. Every death is believed to be a snake bite. Karthi goes to that mountain every month for some solo research. There is no bodyguards with him like they are with Uday”
ParthaSarathy’s head was spinning against his will. RamaKrishna said.
“That boy is heart and soul to everyone in Selvarangan's house. If that soul is removed it will be a check mate to his family. Selvarangan also has a heart problem. He will die soon in a matter of days after his younger son’s death. Then it will not be a problem for you to become the next Chief Minister. Uday can be given some position in Delhi and kept there. Your dear son can happily marry Harini. Think ”
ParthaSarathy looked at his uncle with an enquiring look. Nirmal Akash, who was secretly listening to their conversation, came forward and asked eagerly.
"Will everything happen like you say, Grandpa?"
ParthaSarathy looked at his son in astonishment. RamaKrishna said.
"Definitely it will. No one will have any doubts. I guarantee that. One calculated move, our ambitions will be achieved.”
Everything went according to plan. But, Karthi was missing and the hired killer is dead. Now all the three were sitting in horror.
It was at this point that the master chose ParthaSarathy to enter the field.
