My stomach grumbled and I touched it, pressing my lips together. I was truly hungry and it was now making me uncomfortable, I glanced over at Hinn Carlos who gave me a glimpse and then a smile escaped his lips.
He glanced at his wristwatch. “We will have to stop by at a café for a quick lunch.” He told me as he made a u-turn.
“Didn’t you say we have to hurry?” I asked mentally cursing my stomach for making these sounds right now and making me feel embarrassed.
“We still have a few minutes, whereas you are hungry and I too, I need something.” He flashed me a smile, truly Hinn Carlos was considerate.
“Then, let’s just buy a hamburger and coke, which would hold me till whatever you want to show me is done.” If we could get that, I would have to eat it in the car while we drive, that would be enough to fill my stomach for the time being.
“Okay, if you say so.” Hinn pulled the car to stop and took off his seat belt. “Wait in the car, I will get it for you.”
“Here,” I took out some money from my bag. “Get mine with this.” The smile on Hinn’s face disappeared as he looked at the money on my hand, then he gazed up at me.
“I am your boyfriend and you are out on a date with me, I will do the spending so sit still, I will be back.” He exhaled softly and got out of the car.
I pressed my lips together. Have I offended him? I put the money back into my bag. This was my first time having a boyfriend, I have no idea what men hate most. But I could still order something with my money, why then does he look offended?
Since I was alone in the car, I picked up my phone and open it as I scroll down on the pictures I took with Kate a few days ago. While scrolling I happened to come upon the video I took from Clara, Robin’s video and I paused.
I thought I had deleted this
I exhaled softly and went to the options menu to delete it but mistakenly played the video, I stare at the man in the video in silence. It was until now I discovered that behind those smiles was a sad expression. I looked closely, he was smiling, but it didn’t reach his eyes.
It made me curious about something and I went in search of the video I took of Hinn Carlos and his team when they were performing at the daily bar, and in each of them, Robin had the same look on his face, he was smiling but it wasn’t from his eyes.
I was mentally trying to figure out the reason but dismissed the thoughts in a conclusion that this was how he had always been, this was the kind of person he was.
“What are you thinking about?” I heard Hinn’s voice and turned sharply to see him on the driver’s seat staring at me.
“Huh!” I did not notice when he came in.
Hinn smiled when he looked down at my hands. “You must be amazed at my show, you can’t stop watching it and you think I look cool right?” He glanced at me.
“Oh…” I was still watching the video of him performing, but he didn’t know I was staring at Robin and not him. “Yes, you are cool and good.” I stopped the video, tucking my phone back in my purse. “Did you get it?” I asked to distract him.
“Oh, yes.” Hinn handed me the wrap and I opened it.
“Thank you.” I smiled as he fastened his seat belt. “You didn’t get one for yourself?” I looked through the wrap and discovered it was only one hamburger and one coke.
“I lied when I said I was hungry, sorry,” He beams at me and I smile. “Eat up, we will be there soon.” Hinn started the car engine and headed into traffic while I concentrated on filling my stomach with these snacks.
The car came screeching to a halt and I looked up at Hinn who was smiling. “We are here.” I turn my eyes and stared out of the car quizzically.
“Why are we at the front of a concert hall?”
Hinn took off his seat belt. “We are here to see a show you would love.” Hinn got out of the car and I was left to wonder who was performing. “Let’s go,” Hinn told me while holding my door open.
I picked up my purse and stepped out of the car. I was still staring at the hall as Hinn wrapped his hands around my waist. “We have to hurry, the show will start soon.” He smiled softly and I nodded as we walked into the hall.
The hall was filled with people, fans I must say, it was crowded, more than when Hinn Carlos sang at my hometown, more than when Robin sang at the daily bar and it left me curious.
“Whose show is this?” I asked Hinn. “Who is performing today?”
“You will see.” Hinn held my hands and made his way to the front of the crowd. He located a seat next close to the stage and sat down like the seat was reserved for me and him.
“Hey man, you are here.” I heard someone next to Hinn Carlos and glanced over to see Nicholas and Lukas who waved to me. “You brought her too.”
I was surprised to see them here. I thought it was a date and we would be alone. I glanced behind my back and I could also see a few familiar faces from school. Who could be performing today?
“I don’t see Robin Hiesten.” Lukas' words made me turn my attention back to them and I saw him and Nicholas glancing backwards as if they were searching for Robin.
“He said he wouldn’t come.” Hinn Carlos told them softly and held my hands.
“Huh, I thought you said you would convince him after he made that call to cancel.” Lukas seemed slightly offended.
“You should know the kind of person Robin is.” Hinn turned to them.
This must be what he was telling Robin when I came out, could it be he cancelled because I was going.
I turned my eyes to see Nicholas and Lukas staring at me with an expression I can’t quite explain, I looked away from them not wanting to feel uncomfortable with their gaze. This was the first time they have glanced at me that way.
What was wrong?
Hinn Carlos lifts my hands to his lips and plants a kiss on them, I glanced at him, he was smiling at me. “The show is starting.” He whispered, pointing at the stage.
I turned my eyes in hope to be shocked by whoever will perform and to my greatest surprise he was there and the crowd was cheering as the show started and I gasped.
