CHAPTER 33
ALPHA LINCOLN'S POV
I and Sean walked into my office to sit down and get a good look at the book my father had given to us.
Since Sean was here, I decided to read it out for both of us to hear at the same time, to save time.
"THE SOULBOUND LOCKET", was the title of the book and when we opened it, there was a drawing of the Locket.
It was ancient from the looks of things as expected and an ornate piece that was crafted with ethereal silver. To add it up the Locket was adorned with enchanting gemstones.
I read the next thing, "Legend spoke that it can tether the souls of supernatural beings, which will enable it to connect them across time and space. The Vincintore family possesses the one half of this powerful artifact."
The fact that the name of my family was written down in a book, "Seems like your family is part of old history and more to come", Sean said and sighed.
"Well, that is what is catching up to us now. This is the first time I have seen this book, never knew it even existed, talk more of knowing that it spoke about my family", I said as I flipped to the next page.
So I went on with the reading and getting of information about this Soulbound locket.
"It says here the properties of the Locket...
When the locket is separated, it can not be used, its power becomes useless. But when it is together, like finally back with its twin, its power is back and it is then that it can be used for manipulation, tethering of supernatural beings, and causing so much damage.
That is why this locket was divided into two. One given to the Vincintore family and the other to a family called The Monteforte family."
"Wait wait, is that not the family that every single one of them was killed? I heard someone had betrayed them from their pack, got some alliance with a pack, and made sure that the whole royal family of the Monteforte were all killed", Sean remembered.
"Yes", I hummed, "It is that family. After that, it was like the family became history. Do you think this...what was her name again? The one who is behind all this", I snapped my fingers trying to recall.
"Elowen", Sean reminded.
"Yes, she, do you think she has this other piece?", I asked him cause something was suspicious here.
"I do not know for sure, she may have it or not, and if the Monteforte family were all killed and she went there looking for it or something, then? Maybe she does and has spent quite some time looking for the other part", Sean said with a shrug since he was not too sure.
"And now she has found the other part", I completed his sentence.
"Alright I will go on with the reading, we do not have much time and need to cover as much as possible as we can", I said and continued.
"It said that the locket could also be used for a kind of memory resonance where it stores fragments of memories, allowing those connected by its magic to share glimpses of each other's past. This means this locket can reveal your past to you, no matter how deep or hidden, it will force it out of you...
It also says it has some binding enchantment but it did not give full details of that one, the explanation is not that clear."
"Just continue, I see something like the history and where it all started, dive into it. Cause if this locket was separated, it should be for a very good reason and only by reading the powers the locket has, we can agree that it would be bad, letting it fall into the wrong hands. Especially hands like Elowen, she can't be trusted", Sean said and I agreed with him.
"How do you know it's a she though?", I asked, I don't remember seeing that.
"It was there, at the ending of the letter, under her name, she made it clear she was a woman. Maybe she wanted you to feel like a woman can control you", Sean added.
"Shut up", I said a bit playfully, "I may have missed that, was just so worried about finding my sister. Goddess knows what they are doing to her and I do not want to let her be there for too long."
Well after I and Sean a little discussion, the next page was about the history of the Soulbound locket and how it all started.
It said that Centuries ago, there was a sorcerer, known as Malachar. It was said that he was very ambitious and harbored an insatiable thirst for dominion over the supernatural realms.
His family he said had been the cause of everything in his life. They always found him weak, always comparing him to his older brother, treating him badly, favoring everyone else more than him, and no matter how much effort he put in, it was always discarded.
And so Malachar decided to make them know that he was not weak and make them beg him for everything they had done to him. With the anger and hate, this desire for power became fueled by the desire to control beings beyond mortal understanding. Of course, he also did not have any friends, he was like an outcast where he was from which made things worse cause he wanted to see them suffer, he wanted to make them suffer.
Malachar sought a source of power that would elevate him to unparalleled heights of influence. A kind of power where he can be able to manipulate people and control them however he wants, just as how his parents have controlled his life. Controlled his life in a way that it no longer felt good to live.
He had tried many times to kill himself but whatever stopped him from doing so was certainly strong. He just could not bring himself to slit his own throat.
