Covet Me, My Heartless Alpha Chapter 113

"Are you sure that you will do this, Veronica? Our pack is still waiting for you." Ava uttered when they were left alone. James took Jaxon and told him he would teach him some skills.

Veronica folded Jaxon's shirts before she took a glimpse at Ava. She was wondering if she was doing the right thing, but her conscience kept triggering her.

Jaxon went to Veron's pack to make sure that she was safe. He wanted to talk with her and plead with her to give him a chance. She was upset at the time. She was annoyed that she was too easy to please.

Especially when Jaxon begged her to come back on him. Maybe if she gave Jaxon a chance to talk with her, he wouldn't lose his memories.

"You are still the beta of our pack. You don't need to worry about me. I would be the one who would help Jaxon manage the pack for now." She answered. Ava pursed her lips and walked closer to her.

She was interested to know why Veronica decided to help Jaxon. She might be thinking because of the matebond, but she knew there was something essential on Veronica's part.

"Veronica, it's not your fault that he lost his memories. Did you even think that you were in that place, too?" she asked.

Veronica paused for a moment. Yeah, It was Jaxon who helped her, but there was something in return, especially in his bed. A smirk plastered her lips when she remembered how Jaxon had treated her when she lost her memories.

Maybe she would take advantage of him too, like he had done to her.

"I'm blaming myself. However, I still want to get revenge on him. It's better if he experiences what I did when he's with me. It's too painful to lose the memories; it feels empty. Jaxon didn't know about it."

"I don't understand what you are trying to say, Veronica. I thought you were giving him a chance because of guilt." Ava seemed upset. Her eyes had strange emotions. She didn't know what she was going to say, especially since she was trying to stop herself from scolding Veronica.

"I don't think that I can answer that. I'm only guilty because he was with me when he got stabbed by that arrow. I'm only giving something in return. Aside from that, you mentioned that he'd been searching for Morgan. I want to know what he has investigated."

"I found out that Uriel is with him. When I last talked with Alpha Jaxon, I found out that he was suspecting Uriel. It's better if you avoid him and are vigilant whenever he's with you." Ava finally had the courage to say what she had been thinking.

She pursed her lips and maintained her composure. She watched how Veronica's mouth parted. Veronica seemed surprised that Uriel was one of the suspects who took Morgan into Jaxon's pack.

"Are you sure about it, Ava? Uriel is my friend." she whispered. There was a trace of fear in her eyes. Veronica felt heartbroken if it was Uriel who had taken Morgan away from them. She was miserable, and if Uriel did that, it meant he didn't treat her as his closest friend.

"I'm sure about it. It was Alpha Jaxon who mentioned that it's Uriel who's been investigating how Morgan got kidnapped, but he still didn't give him a report. He decided to investigate it again alone. He found out that Uriel was missing when Morgan was missing, too. What did you think about it?"

Veronica swallowed. She was still giving Uriel the benefit of the doubt. She didn't know what she would do next if it was truly Uriel. Her lips trembled as she took another coat.

"Maybe, it's coincidence. Maybe he did some work at that time. Being a Beta isn't an easy job." She answered that it made Ava upset. Ava moaned in irritation. She couldn't believe that Veronica decided to turn her eyes blind when it came to Uriel. She understood that Uriel was too special in her heart, but what about her son?

"Are you seriously telling me that I'm wrong? Are you trying to tell me that there is something that is framing him for the things that he didn't even commit?" Avan was being sarcastic. She hoped that Veronica was older than her so she could smack her head.

Veronica's gape closed, and when she opened it, there were strange emotions in her eyes.

She shrugged before she replied, "If he's the one who took Morgan away, I will not mind if he is sent to jail. I know our laws here. We still need proof that your speculation is true."

"It's not only me who thinks that he did those things. Even your mate, Alpha Jaxon thinks the same thing. Veronica, he's not a saint, and someone mentioned to me that he has a connection with Helene. It's better if it's you who will investigate it, so you will know if the results are true."

Ava hardly took a hard breath. She massaged her temple and moaned in irritation. She doesn't like that Veronica trusts Uriel so much, especially because of what they have found about him.

"Helene? I don't think it's true. He hates Helene." Veronica uttered.

"They are fucking each other. Seriously, it's up to you if you believe me or not. I'm only saying this because I don't want you to do something stupid. Just act like you didn't know what I told you."

Ava finally surrendered. She knew her sister, too. She knew that Veronica wouldn't believe her if she didn't even see the proof. She was sure that Uriel would be the one who would do something foolish to make Veronica finally know the truth.

"Let's go. Alpha James is waiting for us," she added. She turned her back and took some of the things Veronica needed.

She was stoic when she was walking with Veronica. She couldn't stop thinking about what she must do to protect herself.

"Veronica.." Jaxon called her that, making her force herself to smile at him. She walked closer to her, and Jaxon took the bag from them.

Jaxon quickly grabbed his head, and he seemed excited that Veronica would be back in his pack. Ava didn't remove her attention from Jaxon, making Veronica arch her brow at her.

She smirked when she noticed how Veronica had given her a dead glare. She was sure that Veronica was only in denial. She has had feelings for Jaxon.

"Is there something wrong, Ava?" Veronica couldn't stop herself from asking Ava. Her forehead creased when Ava's forehead crumpled, and there was a hidden smile on her lips.

James growled and grabbed Ava's waist, but Ava removed his hand. He pouted. How could he stop himself from getting jealous?

"We need to go..." Veronica said before she dragged Jaxon away from them.

When they didn't see them anymore, Ava finally sighed in relief. She hoped that Veronica would forgive her for what she had done to her.

"You didn't tell her, didn't you? Ava, I told you that Veronica would not like your idea." James commented while he was following her. Ava inhaled and stopped walking.

"She doesn't need to know I did those things to her. Shut up! I'm only trying to help her as long as I can." She snapped back, which made James pout again.

"She will ask for your help if she needs it. You only make everything worse. I bet Jaxon didn't know about your plans." James didn't want to stop. He wanted her to think that she had done something wrong to Veronica.

"You don't need to think about me. I'm only doing this for the sake of my sister. Veron and Helene are too deceiving."

"It doesn't change the fact that you deceived her too. Please tell her about what you did."

Ava didn't say anything. She was distressed whenever she was thinking about how Veronica would react.

James coughed. "Let's have a date."

Ava stopped walking again. She turned around to see if James was serious. Her heart was thumping so fast that she couldn't breathe anymore.

Ava was upset when James didn't give her a chance to prove she was worthy of acceptance as his mate. It seemed it was her chance to turn down his offer.

"Mate renders me vulnerable; I do not wish to be invalid, Alpha James." She grinned when James widened his eyes in disbelief. He moaned in pain, as if he felt a thousand knives stabbed in his heart.

"I don't think that I can accept someone like you. I don't want an Alpha." she added, adding some salt to James' wounded heart.

"What do you mean? You are not even lost in knowing that I'm your mate. Did you prefer to be mated with the Beta?" James sounded bitter.

"It's not like that. Being with a mate, there's a big possibility that I might be weak because of the fucking mate bond. I don't like it; I like what you decide when we first meet."

James was stunned. He finally realized that Ava was trying to make him feel what she had said to him. He swallowed.

"There's nothing wrong to have a mate for, Ava. That's what I realize." he mumbled.
