Covet Me, My Heartless Alpha Chapter 28

My mind was overwhelmed with a multitude of recollections. I didn't want to relive all that took place, but those memories constantly come back to me. Whenever I shut my eyes, I see myself in the middle of an ocean that had no limits. The only thing that could be found there was a pure darkness, including a profound blackness that was unbounded.

My parents were forced to choose between saving their own lives, saving the lives of their pack, or saving me... They ought to have simply made their own decisions about life; then I wouldn't have had such a tragic past. But contrary to what I wanted to happen was what they did...

That enemy pack burned my home. They set my parents' bodies on fire and didn’t leave anything else except the ashes.

And I was aware that regardless of what I do, even if I was successful in eliminating the pack that was responsible for the deaths of both my parents and the rest of my previous pack, I would not be able to avoid the truth. I shall continue to be held hostage by it.

My shift back into a human being coincided with the onset of a severe thunderstorm and nonstop rain. The chill that pervaded my whole body was nothing in comparison to the iciness that gripped my heart.

Another sin had been committed by me. The event that I said I would never allow myself to experience again had really arisen.

I sat on the base of the tree and arched my back to get some shade. I raised my head and let the rain fall on my face. I was pondering the possibility that they were only blades to put an end to the threat that I was facing.

"Jaxon, you should know that the past does not remain in the past. They will only continue to cause you pain and difficulties if you refuse to let go of them," Black continued to speak, but I was unable to comprehend the message he was attempting to impart.

“What exactly do you mean by that?”

"You'll never be able to start writing a new chapter in your life's tale if you're stuck in the past, no matter how hard you try to forget. Each page has to be flipped over."

“The past serves as my boundary and fence, Black.”

"Yet, this is not a box made of silver that will remain forever. The fence is only made of steel, which is brittle and can be broken easily, and it very certainly has a key,” before Black withdrew in my mind, he left his last words, "Find the place where you are intended to be right now. What exactly are you meant to be doing?"

I lowered my head and shut my eyes. As I did so, a picture of Veronica carrying Morgan emerged in my mind.

It was as if my body had its own independent intelligence because all of a sudden, I got up and began running. It was very humiliating to witness, yet every five steps I made, I fell because I was rushing and partly because the road was slick.

When I got to where I left them earlier, I saw that they were no longer there. The sky was so overcast that it was impossible to make out anything on the road. I didn't give it a second thought before dashing to the mansion.

When I arrived, Betty and Uriel were already in the entrance, waiting for me to come. In addition to that, there were two maids who were holding a towel for me to take, but I put up my hand to prevent them from doing so.

"Where's Veronica?" Even though the floor was already soiled by me, I went straight upstairs to where our room was.

When I walked on the steps and they did not respond, I turned my head to them, but I maintained my cool throughout the interaction.

“Alpha, Veronica is presently being examined by the Doctor to determine whether or not—”

"Call her your Luna, Betty," I told her emphatically and she nodded along with the viewers attending with her. After focusing my attention on Uriel, I promptly issued the following commands: "Uriel, investigate the source of today's incursion into our territory. Call the high rank guards and patrols; find out the traces they left because you won't trace their smell anymore because of the fog and rain. Make sure you’ll give them to me alive.”

"Yes, Alpha." After Uriel answered and turned around, he vanished into thin air in an instant.

"Betty, where's Morgan?"

"The Prince may be found there with Luna. Because he doesn't want to be apart from his mother, we've decided to let him stay."

I nodded at what was said, "Prepare his room so he can rest."

I decided not to wait for them any longer and rushed inside the room as quickly as possible. As soon as I walked in the door, I was confronted by Veronica, who was lying in bed with her complexion pale. At first glance, you would think she was dead.

The very concept caused me to tighten my fists, at which point I turned to look at the doctor and asked, "How is she doing?"

The doctor let out a long sigh before focusing his attention on Veronica's wound. "I am unable to state with certainty that her status is stable. After all, the wolfsbane was on the arrow that penetrated her in the first place. This was no ordinary wolfsbane; rather, it was a potent poison that might kill her in under an hour."

Hearing what the doctor said, I did not waste any time in seizing hold of his collar and demanding aggressively, "Could you repeat what you just said?"

"A-Alpha, I have stopped the poison from spreading in her body but I am still not sure when she will wake up," the doctor answered me in a panic but because of his fear, he continued with the information, "The wolfsbane that is in her body is a type of plant that only royals can produce."

"What do you mean?"

"It is possible that the poison may enter the cells; if this occurs, and if her coma continues for an extended period of time, it is possible that her brain will be impacted, and she will lose all of the knowledge that is stored in her brain. To put it another way, she is prone to forgetting even her own name."
