Jaxon's Point of View
I devoted my thoughts intently on her ghostly complexions. Even her once-rosy lips had become a lighter shade. Her scent made me feel apprehensive, as if the wind and rain had swept away the scent of cherry blossoms that had always brought me solace. Instead of adopting a dominant stance, she developed a look on her face that hinted she was being bullied.
After the doctor shared his findings with me, he then departed. He claimed that there was nothing he could do to halt the gradual spread of the poison, and even if he was successful in doing so, he did not know what the consequences of his operations would be.
He was completely worthless. They were entirely useless. I was useless.
"Mommy... huk. Mommy. Wake up, please."
Morgan was whimpering as he embraced his mother's stomach as they both laid down. My son squeezed himself to his mother firmer as if he was frightened.
My son.
Son, huh?
These were still strange sounding phrases to my ears. Nothing even somewhat like what happened here would have taken place if I hadn't allowed Morgan to leave the mansion— or perhaps if I gave a little attention to him. I had the right to refer to myself as a parent, but I couldn't really fulfill that role.
It had already been more than a year when I was given this obligation, but up to this point, I still hadn't performed it.
"Morgan, your mother will eventually wake up. She just needs to rest because she's too tired—”
"You are to blame for this!"
I was surprised by Morgan's loud voice. So, I moved fast to go to the side of the bed where he was sitting so that I could join him there. As soon as I sat down on the soft bed, he abruptly pushed and gave me a searing gaze that went right to the core of my being.
I couldn't say that I blame him for the way that he treated me. After all, he held my presence at the scene responsible for whatever transpired with Veronica.
"You're not as good as Daddy Veron since he helped Mom! But you? You did not take any action! You had simply watched her, right?"
Instantaneously, a chilly grimace came over my face. An odd mood settled as my ears twitched. "Daddy? Who advised you that you may call him daddy?"
"...."
I received no answer from him, because of that, I became angry and grabbed his arm violently. Because of the intense force with which I was holding onto him, his hand was comparable to a paper-thin plank of wood that was on the verge of cracking at any moment. Those who would dishonor me as a life form being had not even been born yet! Not my own offspring!
"Let go of me!"
He let out a tremendous scream, but I couldn't pay attention since I was so outraged.
"You came from me! You owe your life to me; without me, you wouldn't be here today! I am the one who you should thank for whatever you have! Together with your mother!"
"Alpha! Alpha!"
"Alpha!"
I heard a loud voice calling my name, and all of a sudden, Morgan was snatched away from me. It felt like I woke up from a deep nightmare. As I glanced up, I saw that Uriel was reassuring Morgan while he seemed to be experiencing a combination of surprise and rage.
When I stared down at his face, my gaze traveled all the way down to Morgan's arm. I gritted my teeth when I saw it swollen.
"Alpha..." Uriel called me again while looking disappointedly and expressed his dissatisfaction to me. "Perhaps it would be better if you had a rest first. I'll take care of the Prince."
Nonetheless, despite what he said, the small bit of wrath that was remaining in my chest was not eliminated at all. "Why? Because you want to continue Veron's inept brainwashing of my kid after I leave? Why should I listen to you, Uriel? What do you and Veron have that I don't have?"
I edged closer to him in a stealthy manner as he stayed in his position and did not exhibit the smallest sign of panic. Nonetheless, I was able to make out quite clearly his hand fiercely shielding Morgan's little body as if I were an evil person who intended to murder their lives.
"I have nothing else to say, Alpha. But I am well aware that you and the Prince both need some rest as a side effect of what matters in life with Luna," Before he continued speaking, he remained silent for a little period of time and then cleared his throat. "And just in case she happens to wake up, I can assure you that Luna will not be pleased by this episode."
After he had finished reciting his litany, the two of us stared at Morgan's arm. I felt like I had been slapped by that image, so I turned my back on them and stormed out of the room as soon as I could. And just as the door closed, I gave a stern punch to the wall.
