She doesn't have plans to fall in love with Veron. She was traumatized even though she wasn't unaware she might fall in love with Jaxon. Her opinions about relationships instantly changed because of what happened to her.
However, she chose to use the pain that Jaxon had caused her to have the strength to fight for the throne. She wished that Jaxon would see that she wasn't the weak Veronica that she knew. Aside from that, she thought that she could easily find Morgan once she would be decisive.
She stepped forward and still noticed Ava was following her. She was in disbelief when Ava looked that she didn't have plans to give her privacy with Veron.
“I'm only trying to protect you. I will be your Beta, so I'm always beside you.” Ava crossed her arms, trying not to be affected, when she glared at her.
“I thought you wanted to have a vacation. If you are my new Beta, does it mean that you are not even allowed to get the break that you want? Ava, you're my sister, but it doesn't mean I will tolerate everything when you're lazy.”
“But...” Ava was speechless. She frowned and kept thinking about what she might use against Veronica. “I want to have a vacation before becoming your Beta. I'm here as your sister.”
“But you are still the Alpha of this pack. You still need to work, and being a gossiper isn't one of the Alpha's traits.”
“I'm not a gossiper. I'm worried about you, so I didn't want to give you alone time with him. Do you still remember that you experienced those shits because I left you alone..” Ava finally voices out her worried. She looked away, and her hands clenched. She was blaming herself that she wasn't with Veroniva at that time.
Aside from that, some of the pack members were trying to spread nasty rumors about her. They thought that she was the one who plotted something wrong against Veronica.
“It's not your fault. It's my fault because I was too stupid that time.” Veronica cleared her throat and hugged her. Ava rolled her eyes and acted like she wasn't affected by her sister's hugs but failed. Her tears formed in her eyes, making Veronica notice it. She didn't want Veronica to see her weakness time. She didn't want her to get worried because of her.
Her sister, Veronica, had a lot of baggage, and she didn't want to be added to her luggage. Her nephew was missing, and she was sure that Veronica might not rest appropriately after that.
“I will help you to find Morgan. I will ask someone who can paint him.” She let out her thoughts, making Veronica nod, and tried her best to prevent breaking down.
“I'm thankful that you think about it. For now, please, I want to talk with him alone. You don't need to worry because Veron can't hurt me here.” Veronica mumbled, making Ava not have a choice but to obey her.
Ava stepped back and continued walking away from her. Veronica finally breathed out properly and turned to face Veron, who was watching her. He seemed severe, and his pale skin made her feel uncomfortable.
If she didn't know Veron was a werewolf, she might assume he was a vampire because of his skin.
“Veron, what are you doing here? Is something important?” Veronica plastered a smile on her lips, and her eyes glowed when Veron took something from his pocket. It was a black envelope, making her stunned for a little moment.
“You wanted to be the most powerful woman here. You need to enhance your skills, and he might help you with that. As long as you are desperate, you can use it to learn everything while away.”
“What are you talking about?” She was confused but accepted the black envelope. She didn't know what to say so she opened the envelope and took out the small card.
“He can help to train you. He wants dedicated students, and I think you can be his student.”
“Did you think so? I want to, but how?”
“You can ask him when you're in his place. He's living in the secret part of the mountains here. He's seeking a devoted student, so you must do everything to find him there.”
“I might be desperate and dedicated, but it doesn't mean I can still be powerful after that. I want to learn how to be a true Alpha.“
“I promise that he can help you. Veronica, I know it's not too easy for you to trust me with this one, but I hope that you will go to him. He's the one that you need.”
Veron touched Veronica's hand, making her stunned. Her eyes widened when Veron laughed.
“I'm starving. Is it okay if you cook something for me?” Veron whispered, making her grit her teeth, and smacked him.
Veronica decided to cook something for Veron before they talked about the man who would teach him to fight. Veron was friendly, but she couldn't break the wall that she had built because of him.
Veron didn't stay longer when his Beta came inside and informed him that the Alpha King was looking for him. It seemed Veron didn't like to be parted from her, but he didn't have a chance but to leave.
Veronica was staring at the card, thinking if she could endure training so hard. She gulped and took the card once again.
How could she have the strength to fight if she was too scared to take a risk?
She informed Ava about her sudden decision, and she was thankful that Ava supported her decision. It indicated in the card that she needed to stay with that man for a year to ensure she would learn everything.
“Just make sure that you will be safe...” Ava seemed worried but tried her best to stop making Veronica see it.
She took the bag that she prepared for Veronica and made sure that Veronica had some bread and water while she was searching for that man.
While Veronica was on her way, she saw a man, who looked old, and he was looking at her.
“Do you have some bread and water? It's been a decade since I didn't eat and drank yet.” The older man stated, and he seemed weak. Veronica bit her lips, she was sure that her bread was only for three days, but she didn't want to be selfish, especially since the older man was asking for help.
Veronica took bread and water inside her bag. She gave it to the older man.
“You have a good heart. I hope that you will get what you dream of.” The older man uttered and munched the bread like a fried meal.
“I hope so.” Veronica smiled and sat on the big roots. Her eyes closed, and she felt sleepy.
