“Ava!” Adam yelled her name when she still couldn't find the guts to answer his question. She was speechless and scared at the same time because she already knew what was the truth.
From the moment that she had found out that James was her mate, she couldn't stop herself from falling in love with him. Despite that he was too cocky for him, he was still good in her eyes and she sometimes thought that she was bewitched by him.
Her sight closed, and she felt how her chest pounded too fast because of the simple question about James. Since the moment that she left without accepting his rejection, she always dreamed of him.
In her dreams, she had an intimate relationship with him that ended her waking up in the middle of the night while on heat.
The heat in her body was so intense that sometimes she wanted to play with herself. She wanted to explode whatever she might need. She wasn't too innocent about those things because she had a lot of several friends who always mentioned their fantasies with their mates.
Adam laughed. He shook his head as if he already knew her answer but he only needed to confirm it.
“It's so stupid of me to ask you that dumb question. Yeah, you're still in love with him. He will not be your mate---”
“I don't want to think about him. We must go to our destination. My sister is waiting for us.” She acted like she wasn't too affected, and continued walking. She bit her lips to suppress that groan, and cursed in herself.
“There's nothing wrong if you will answer my question. I'm only asking.” Adam shuddered and followed her.
She didn't like to be interrogated because she knew herself. The more that she realized what she felt, the more that it would be too difficult for her to do the right thing!
Adam gave her time to think. He felt bad for her whenever she was acting like she was too affected by James' presence. He wished that Ava would be happy even though James might rejected her.
After they both went to their destination, they went back to the pack house, and it was James who opened the door for her.
“Ava, your sister is asking for your presence. She needs to talk to you.” James informed her that made her nod her head. Adam chuckled and gave her a peck on her cheek that made her blush in embarrassment while James gave her a death glare.
“I will go to her. Thanks for informing me, James. I will usher Adam into my room.”
“You aren't mated yet to him. Is it allowed on you that you will be with someone in the same room who isn't your husband?” James couldn't stop from finally spitting what he might be thinking. Ava was stunned while Adam pursed his lips in surprise.
“James, I can't understand what you mean. Why I'm not allowed to let someone stay in my room?”
” Your sister got kicked out of this pack because she got pregnant without having a mating ceremony. Did you think that Veronica would let you stay with him alone in your room?”
“It's not your problem anymore. My sister will give her blessings to me. Aside from that, stop sticking your nose to someone's business. I'm not even asking you, or what you're thoughts about me!”
Adam coughed. He massaged his nape when he finally witnessed how Ava and James had been fighting verbally. He disliked the idea that Ava was trying to act like a heartless woman but seeing how James reacted, he finally cheered for her.
“Really? Then is it a little bit unfair that it's fine if you will fuck with someone while your sister got kicked out in the pack because she fucked---"
“Shut up! I will go to her. Stop trying to act like you care about me because we both know that you are not. I'm not stupid to distinguish why are you doing these things.” Ava growled in anger and took Adam's hand before she dragged him to the second floor. She didn't notice how James' face changed all of a sudden because of her attitude.
The Alpha Ceremony was peaceful, and they made sure that no one would ever know that she was the new Alpha of their pack while Ava decided to step down as the Beta.
Veronica was wearing a fitted dress that made her curves exposed and drank the wine. Their pack members didn't have any reaction after a rushed pack ceremony.
“Alpha Veronica, congratulations! I hope that you will end up having a good life, and a family.”
“Alpha Veronica, welcome back!”
Veronica smiled when the pack members kept uttering their wishes for her while James had a blank expression beside her.
She noticed that Ava was having a good time with James, and they seemed too sweet. She glanced at James, who was scowling because of what he witnessed.
“Is it painful that you are seeing how your may is happy with someone else? It might be too painful, and don't you talk to her?” She started their conversation which made James grit his teeth.
“Did you think that I'm too desperate to get her attention? I will not do those things!”
“She's your mate,” Veronica stated making James roll his eyes in anger. James felt that there was something inside him that was about to explode. He disliked that he was seeing how Ava acted with Adam.
He was trying to control his temper because he didn't want to ruin Veronica's alpha ceremony. He knew how long Veronica had waited to get the pack. He was the one who witnessed how she suffered in their training.
“Alpha Veronica!”
Veronica turned her head and saw Veron who was smiling at her. She rushed towards him and hugged him.
