"Your girl? What girl?" I asked with surprise, looking from Ella to Eric and then back to Ella.
I'm not surprised because I heard Ella telling Eric about some girl that supposedly belongs to him, no. I'm surprised that Eric met a girl and decided to keep her away from me despite the fact that we've always been open with each other about these things.
I looked at them but they couldn't look me in the eyes, making me wonder, why? Why are they being so secretive and uncomfortable about it? What's the big deal?...
All shifters know that when it comes to the opposite sex, male shifters are the most selfish and entitled beings on earth. Before we meet our mates, we can play with, and fuck any willing female. Humans, shifters, or vampires at that but we won't hesitate to kick up a shitstorm at the thought of our mate being with another male before us.
Eric and I had a taste of our first females the same day. It was my uncle's birthday gifts that we found waiting for us inside our rooms the night of my sixteenth birthday.
I've had many females ever since of course, humans, and she-wolves especially. Despite the law that bans copulation between shifters and vampires, I kept Delilah, the vampire that I visited once in a while whenever I was in the mood to purge the demon that I knew only raw, animalistic sex could exorcize.
'As long as you know it ends the day you find your mate, then have fun.'
My uncle once said to me when he caught me fucking a human girl when I was eighteen. Now I've met my mate but the thought of sex hasn't crossed my mind despite the fact that I'm a sexual beast. And I don't think it would ever, especially when I know I'm not sexually attracted to her.
"It's a girl I just met" Eric answered my question without looking at me and with a nonchalant countenance that says end of discussion before turning to Ella to ask for his phone.
I look at his back that he turned to me,
'No way is he brushing me off just like that! I'm not letting this go! We always talk about these things so why is he acting strange on this one? He's not her mate, and neither is he her father so why are they calling him about the girl he just met that caused trouble?...'
Since I know we have a more pressing matter at hand, I decided to let him be. We'll discuss further on the matter later.
"So what about my phone? I wonder why it's taking so long to find. I need to call my dad, you know." I ask as we all stand aside for Bear to remove Ella's bike from the back of the Jeep she brought for us to ride back home.
"Sorry, we couldn't find it. But not to worry, I got another one for you already." He replies, flashing me a grin. It's interesting how he can laugh now that he feels I'm off his back about the girl he hid from me.
"I must have looked like a fool for you to think your ridiculous excuse would fly with me. I already know what you're doing so, just say I'm getting it back after a month, idiot"
"Alright– You're getting it back after a month, idiot," He deadpanned.
I shake my head, chuckling in disbelief
"God! I just pray I don't end up killing you one day." I say and he grins
When Bear was done removing the bike, I walked to the car's back seat to open the door.
"Oh, and you're not off the hook about the girl you hid from me. So start thinking up a good lie. The conversation is not over." I turn back to tell him and watch in satisfaction as his grin falters.
Ivar and Ella start driving ahead of us on Ella's bike as Henrik gets behind the wheel of the Jeep with Bear beside him. Eric opens the other door and sits beside me.
"The issue of the girl is complicated. You know I would never deliberately hide anything from you." He says after a while and I nod in understanding.
The moment he said the issue of 'the girl is complicated,' I immediately knew his excuse about the girl he just met was a lie. Who is the girl and why would he lie to me about her, I wonder. The only reason I could think of that he wouldn't want me to know about her is if it concerns my mate since she's one of the unknown issues that is complicated in my life at the moment.
I didn't see my mate when I woke up and I wonder if he lodged her in some kind of a hostel to keep her away from me. Even though I know he would never do something as cheap as putting my mate in a hostel, I still wonder...
Since I couldn't think of how to further link this new piece of jigsaw to the other ones I already got, I pushed the matter away in the meantime to consider later.
"The phone you bought, is it set up already? I need to call my dad. You said he promised to ask Nate to find out about the trial date?"
"Yeah, he did. You should call him..." He replied absent-mindedly
"What are you doing?" I ask curiously as I watch his thumbs speedily type on his phone.
"Composing the email that I will be forwarding to the pack's executives." He replies as he types away.
After a while hands the phone to me...
"Here, check it out before I send it to them."
I collected the phone and read through what he wrote.
"Yeah..." I say, nodding with approval. "You wrote my thoughts exactly."
"So what if they call your bluff and refuse to show up for the meeting?" Eric asks and I chuckle
"Then they should kiss their jobs goodbye. I already told you that and it's already in the email you just sent, so why are you still asking me? What? You think I won't do it?"
"I know you will, I didn't doubt that for a moment. Just that I would prefer that we kick them out of the pack totally. Either way, we're going to have a big problem on our hands..." He replies and adds after a while
"Rogues or rebels? Which would you prefer?"
"Rogues or rebels?" I ask, not understanding his last statement
"If we allow them to stay in the pack without their jobs then we can't rule out the chance of them rebelling against us and causing internal war and if we send them out of the pack with their families then we would have rouges that know every nook and cranny of your pack. Rogues that know where he would hit that would hurt you the most.
I thought about what he said for a while.
"We have problems on our hands either way. All I know is they need to learn respect. What kind of Alpha would I be if my pack members don't respect me?... Besides who says they would become rogues? They can easily apply to live in another pack"
He scoffs
"Show me one Alpha that you think would gladly admit people that are kicked out of their packs for disrespecting their Alpha..."
