Ivar slows the bike to a stop in front of a very big shed and Henrik follows suit.
"This is it?" I ask no one in particular as Henrik turns off the engine and we get out of the car.
"Yeah. I can't believe you missed seeing something as big as this on our way out." Eric replies
"Yeah. Didn't you already say my mind was preoccupied?" I reply to him as we walk toward the door where Ivar and Ella are already waiting.
"This should be it then." I say to them "It's bigger than your average shed though but it should be where the fence energizer is stored."
"The lock is broken," Ivar says, raising the broken padlock that he hooks with his finger up for us to see.
"Why am I not surprised?" I say, chuckling as I push the door open. This was exactly what I envisaged.
I step into the shed and become surprised by the scene before me.
"Wow..." I exclaim in amazement. What I thought would be some kind of storage because of how big it is from the outside, is in fact a workshop. A metalworking workshop.
"This is amazing. I didn't know my dad also has metalworking as his hubby!" I say, feeling like a kid in a toyshop as I walk and look around the place. I'm impressed by how well-equipped the workshop is.
"Now I know it runs in the family. I can see he also has a penchant for designing and making weapons." Eric who is now standing in front of a vast array of tactical commando and ninja combat knives says.
He picks a knife, checks it out then drops it to pick a serrated edge karambit knife. He holds the karambit firmly in his hand to test the grip, slashing the air with it a couple of times like he's in combat.
"I love this, can I keep it?" He smiles at me as he asks
"No, you can't keep it. Put it down!"
He cocks his head aside as he looks at me like he's studying my face, then smiles smugly.
"I saw this blade first, Thor, so I'm keeping it. He's my Uncle as much as he's your dad. I'll ask him personally myself." He says as he returns the knife to its sheath before putting it in his pocket.
The bastard saw through me like he always does. I told him, no because I had my eyes on the knife the moment I saw the display. I didn't rush to take it because I wanted to ask for my dad's permission first, but now the bastard beat me to it. I glare at him like I should wring his neck like I always have the urge to whenever he's being a pain in the ass.
"Don't look at me like that, you don't even like knives..." He says while backing away from my arm's reach.
He's right about that. I prefer axes while in combat. I even designed and made all my weapons by myself. Lithe ones that one can easily throw. I believe axes do more damage when they hit their target than knives. I look around the room and realize the others are also looking longingly at the display of knives.
"Vikings!" I say under my breath, exhaling in exasperation.
"General, can we..." Henrik was saying when I firmly cut him off mid-sentence
"No, you cannot!" I already suspected he would ask if they could also take a knife each.
"We didn't come here for that guys, c'mon, let's get down to business," I chide but immediately change my mind when I see Ella looking at me like I just broke her heart.
"Oh, okay. At least let me ask the old Alpha for his permission first. We can't just keep his things, courtesy demands we ask him first." I tell them while looking pointedly at Eric but he just shrug nonchalantly, still smiling smugly
"Dick head!..." I say before looking away from him, searching with my eyes around the room for the fence energizer that we came for
"Uhmm, General..." Bear calls for me and we all look towards where he's standing at the far corner of the workshop.
"What's up?" I ask him
"I think I found the fence energizer. I mean, I don't know what it looks like but since this thing on the floor is smashed beyond repair, I'm guessing that's what we're looking for. Right? "
Hearing what he said, we all walk to him
"Oh, it's the fence energizer alright." Eric who arrived there first said. "Now what are we going to do, it's indeed destroyed beyond repair."
"We'll go back to Alpha's mansion and make arrangements for patrol and tighten the security around the pack as soon as possible," I reply and immediately start walking towards the door.
There's no time to waste. Ivar found another padlock inside the workshop and we lock up.
It's almost four in the evening when we arrived back at Alpha's mansion. All through the drive back, I kept asking myself, how are we going to arrange enough patrol and security for a pack as big as the Silver Moon in the short period that we have left?
"I think we should look for a way to make the pack executives realize their mistake before it's too late. This pack is too big for us to protect by ourselves. Even if we bring the twenty men that we have left at the estate, it still won't be enough." Eric says the moment we entered the mansion's living area. I can tell he's beginning to get worried from his tone of voice.
I'm also worried, even though I try to mask it. I am worried about the innocent pack members, the old wolves, she-wolves, pups– all those that can't protect themselves in general. At the same time, I am pissed at the stupid executives who had no idea Evelyn and Justin are playing politics with their lives, just to get back in power.
"Why Eric, please don't tell me you're scared. If kissing their asses is what you mean by looking for a way then forget it. I am the Alpha now and I'll look for a way to protect everyone on this pack with or without their help, so damn them all to hell!" I say through gritted teeth. Trying to control my emotions so it wouldn't get out of hand again. Especially not when I've just shown signs of getting better.
"Send them another email. They no longer have two hours to convene. They have just thirty minutes, otherwise, they shouldn't only kiss their jobs goodbye but their homes." I said finally before walking towards the stairs.
"I need my phone right now, Eric. Please don't make me ask again." I said finally and stomped up the stairs. I need to call my dad, I can't put it off any longer.
