Inferno & Steeled Alpha Chapter 44

*Abi POV*

It’s been twenty days and I have not slept a wink. Titan remains unconscious and I still have no clue how to help him. I have cried so much my tears have even run out. Nina tells me that she has not been able to communicate with Titan at all. Prophet Rufus says he’s never seen anything like it and so are his counterparts in other packs.

Terrence and Luna Nala walk in and look sympathetically at me. I have gotten used to the look now. All the former fellow servants who come to visit all give me this look.

“How’s everything in the kingdom?” I ask before they ask me the same depressing question if I have figured out a way of getting my mate back.

I have asked the two of them to overlook things because I can’t concentrate on anything right now.

“It’s all well but the elders want to set the date for your ceremony,” Terrence responds.

“They will have to wait.”

I have not even decided if I want to take such a huge responsibility.

“They want the date,” Luna Nala says but does not expand.

Teresa told me that the elders have been here every single day for the same thing. These two have been shielding me from dealing with those old men who only think about pack policy.

“Titan is sick, I don’t care what they want.”

They exchange looks before Luna Nala blushes and looks away.

I narrow my eyes at them.

“Are you two …?”

“Are we what?” Luna Nala asks sharply.

“No, never mind.”

For a moment I thought I picked a spark between them but it must be my tired confused mind that’s playing tricks with me.

“How’s Nina dealing with all of this?” Terrence asks while inspecting the snow white fluffy wolf that has not moved in twenty days.

“The wolves are always the ones the most affected when their mates are in trouble,” Luna Nala adds.

That’s what I knew too but it’s not the same with mine.

“Nina is strangely fine.”

In fact, she feels really bored being in this room day and night.

“What?” they ask in unison before looking at each other and there’s that spark again.

I explain the conversations I have been having with Nina and Terrence goes ballistic.

“Bring Nina here.”

I don’t understand his command and sudden change of attitude.

“Don’t do it,” Nina quickly says. She is panicking and sounds really suspicious.

“Why?” I ask Terrence because I don’t think I will get an honest answer from my wolf.

“All along you have been worried about Titan but it’s Omario you should worry about.”

“What?”

“She is trying to kill Omario. Shift Abi!”

“Don’t do it.” Nina objects but I trust Terrence more. I shift despite Nina’s objections and immediately feel Terrence in my head.

“Talk to Titan,” Terrence commands Nina, who refuses.

“Nina?”

She is definitely up to something. I should have known she had something to do with this.

“You don’t understand. He hurt you, he has to pay.”

OMG, my wolf is really trying to kill our mate!

“Speak to Titan right now Nina!” I yell at her.

“No.”

“Nina!”

“Titan understands that pain must be repaid with pain,” she says defensively.

“Does Titan know that you are trying to kill Omario and him in the process?” Terrence asks.

Nina’s silence speaks volumes.

Terrence grabs a pair of scissors and stabs Titans leg.

“Terrence!”

I can’t believe that he just did that.

“What the fuck, Nina?” Titan shouts. Nina has been lying to me. She and Titan have been talking all along.

“Nina is trying to kill you. Bring Omario back or I will chop off your leg with these scissors,” Terrence threatens and presses the scissors on Titan’s leg.

“What? Nina?” Titan is really shocked by what he hears.

“You were not feeling any pain,” Nina responds dismissively.

I can’t believe her!

“You said it will only be pain!“ Titan cries. It seems my wolf tricked him too.

“Well, he’s an idiot,” Nina responds, defensively.

“That’s why you kept extending the days. I can’t believe you!”

“Well, the pain should have killed him days ago but he was stronger than I thought.”

“He’s my human, you hot, devious mess! And you were gonna kill me too!” Titan is really shocked. I really feel sorry for him.

“I tried thinking of a way to save you but you two are interlinked. You understand the sacrifice, right?” Nina explains to Titan who is now fuming.

“I was hoping for some reincarnation. You could come back with a different human mate,” she adds.

“Nina!”

I can’t believe what I’m hearing.

“Don’t yell at me. You were going to forgive him the moment he went on his knees.”

“Omario might have been an idiot but he claimed me when I was a mere slave, he protected me from being defiled by his father’s friends and he committed treason and risked his life to help me escape.”

“That doesn’t give him the right to hurt you.”

“True but killing him and deceiving Titan is still extreme. I love them both, you idiot!”

“Well, I don’t. I only want Titan,” Nina says stubbornly.

“Titan and Omario are our mate. Both of them. Try anything like this again, I swear we will be buried right next to them.”

I can feel Nina’s eyes rolling. She really sees nothing wrong with what she almost did.

“I’m never trusting you again,” Titan says right before I feel his heart rate picking up and he shifts into Omario, who looks as pale as a sheet.

“Abigail,”Omario mumbles. I run to his side and hug him tight. I can’t believe that my wolf almost killed him.

“I am sorry, Abigail. The pain I put you through…I was selfish and cruel. I am so sorry.”

I nod my head with tears of joy flowing down my cheeks.

He looks at me with dull, tired, pain-stricken eyes.

“Marry me.”

I can’t help but giggle. I thought he would want nothing to do with me and my wolf after this.

“This is the less romantic proposal I’ve ever had. Even humans can do better than this.”

“Abigail,” he calls me with so much tenderness. As if I can ever refuse to marry him with that ugly teeth mark scar on his neck.

“Rest, I’ll get you something to eat,”I say instead, and try to get off the bed.

He weakly grabs my hand. “Don’t go, please. Don’t ever leave my side.”

“Stay. I will go organise food for him,”Terrence offers and quickly leaves the room. I’m really grateful to have him here.

I lay down on the bed next to Omario, who gentle runs the back of his hand over my jaw before closing his eyes and is soon fast asleep. I can’t help but be taken back to the days he gentle took care of me on this very same bed.

“You are not all bad, mate,” I say and plant I kiss on his forehead.

Luna Nala laughs and shakes her head. She has not said a word since we rescued Omario. I had even forgotten that she was in here.

I get out of bed to sit on the bench next to her.

“You must think I’m bad news for your son.”

She laughs again and shakes her head.

“Not at all. You and your kick-ass vengeful wolf I wish I had, are perfect for him.”

“It tried to kill Omario!”

I can’t believe that she is actually complementing Nina after all this.

“She did it because he hurt you. Titan helped her do it because he deeply cares about you. Do you know how many times Theo hurt me? All his wolf wanted was my body but never lifted a finger to stop my suffering.“

I know her story too well, everyone does.

“I am so sorry.”

I have always wanted to say this but never got the opportunity.

“It’s okay, I’ve never been better.”

I look at her. It would take years for most to heal from what her mate put her through, but she really does look better.

“Any second chance mate? You are glowing.”

She giggles like a little girl. I don’t think I have ever seen her this happy.

“Being a widow is good for me, Abigail,” she pronounces my name exactly like her son does.

I can’t help but laugh too. I love this woman.

“I don’t know if I can lead, Luna Nala,” I confess.

Somehow I feel like I can talk to her about my fears.

She smiles and waved her hand dismissively. “Off course, you can, and the people are eagerly waiting for you.”

“They are?”

I am the heir of one of the ten original packs. I don’t know how the people from the other pack feel about being led by me.

“Who would not want to be led by the last Creekian heir? The servant who would rather starve to let other servants eat? Who would rather wear rugs like fellow servants than designer clothes given to her by the prince?”

“You are flattering me.”

“You an amazing leader, always been.”

“Will you stick around? I could use a mother figure to guide me.”

“You bet.”

“Mother Luna or Beta?”

“Both.”

“Terrence is my Beta too. He can be cocky and irritating but he is kind, compassionate and extremely loyal.”

“I can handle him.”

“It’s settled then.”

Now I’m really excited about the future.
