My Rejected Mate And Our Secret Triplets Chapter 41

Chapter 41

***JACK***

I looked up as someone knocked on the door of my office. I dropped the can of soda I was holding.

"Come in."

"Did you order an MRI scan for the patient in ward 5B?" Dr. Alfred, the senior doctor said and I nodded in confirmation.

"Yes, the patient was breathing on his own and I thought we should check his brain activity," I replied.

"He could have been temporarily able to breathe on his own and doesn't mean anything, an MRI is expensive and-"

"I'll pay for the MRI," I said, interrupting him and he stared at me. I just knew he wished he could punish me for this. He never liked me ever since I started as an intern in the company.

And if my mom wasn't the CEO of the hospital, I'm sure he would have found a way to get me kicked out by now.

"If you'll excuse me, I have a patient to check up on," I said and stood up, gulping down the remaining content of my soda and throwing the can in the trash. I picked up my lab coat where I hung it and walked past him out of my office.

I put the lab coat on and walked to the ward where the woman who was rushed in earlier was.

I walked to her bedside and the intern handed me a file on her report. I took a look at it and carefully read through it.

She didn't suffer any internal injury or complication, but it showed her that she was about one month pregnant.  I glanced at the patient who was still unconscious on the bed.

"Has anyone come to claim her? Any family or relatives?" I asked and they shook their heads.

I sighed and closed up the file.

"Alright, let me know when she wakes up," I said and handed the file back to the intern before walking out of the ward.

I did a couple more rounds in the wards before returning to my office.

I stepped out of the elevator as it dinged open and I walked to my office. As I opened the door of my office, I saw someone familiar standing there with her back turned to me as she stared outside the window in my office.

She turned around to face me as she noticed someone walked in and I froze for a second as I saw who it was. Melissa, my Ex.

I gulped and closed the door, going to sit at my desk without bothering to give her so much attention.

"What are you doing here?" I said and she walked towards my desk, pulling the chair at the other end of my desk back and sitting down.

"I didn't say you could sit," I said coldly and she stared at me, looking slightly surprised and embarrassed.

She pushed a strand of her hair aside and stood up, clutching her handbag under her arm.

"Jack, I want to talk to you," she said and I scoffed as I fiddled with a pen I took from my desk.

"Last time I saw you, you said you never wanted to see me or speak to me again," I said, trying to hide the pain I was feeling right now.

"Jack, I-"

"You said I was an anti-social psychopath who is obsessed with his work," I said, interrupting her and gripping the pen I was holding tightly.

"I'm sorry I said those things, Jack, I'm here because I don't like the way we left things between us," Melissa said and I scoffed.

"The way you left things, you made it pretty clear how you felt about me," I retorted and opened my laptop, powering it on.

"If you don't mind, I need to work and you're distracting me," I said without glancing up at her. I stared at my laptop screen until I saw her walk out of the office.

I sighed as she closed the door and sat back. It's been three months since I last saw her and that was when she broke up with me on my birthday.

It was a painful experience for me and seeing her here made me remember all of that. Why would she show up all of a sudden and try to solve things between us?

I stood up and walked out of my office so I could find out who let her into my office without my permission. As I walked out, I saw Dr. Frank, the new doctor, walked past Melissa who was heading for the elevator.

He stopped as he got to me and glanced back at Melissa.

"Did that lady come to meet you?" He asked and I looked at him curiously. Did he know her?

"Yes, she just left my office."

"Dr. Ronald already explained to her that we can't take up the case, but she wouldn't listen," Dr. Frank said and I raised my eyebrow in curiosity.

"Wait, what case?" I asked.

"Her father was involved in an accident and he needs an open heart surgery, but- You saw his file right?" Dr. Frank asked and I nodded.

"Yeah, I did." I lied and scoffed silently. So that was why she wanted to talk to me. Not because she wanted to fix things between us, but because she needed my help.

And I thought maybe she was sorry about all the things she said to me.

"Yeah, did you want to see me?" I asked Dr. Frank.

"Yes, it's Dr. Ronald's birthday next week and we all want to plan a surprise party for him," Dr. Frank said and I nodded, trying so hard to concentrate.

I still couldn't stop thinking about Melissa trying to manipulate me after hurting me.

"They kinda chose me to ask you to help us with the planning and donation for..."

"Yes, sure. Just let me know what you need, I need to go now though," I said and forced a smile before walking back into my office. I sighed and hit my fist on the desk in anger.

Why did I think that she would ever try to make up for the things she did and said? How could I be so stupid?

I looked up as my phone rang in my pocket and I grabbed it. It was a call from the intern.

I picked up the call and held the phone to my right ear.

"It's the woman that got attacked by wolves."
