Chapter 53
***DEREK***
"Just don't think too much about it, it'll come to you," I said and went to sit down. Dolores nodded and she grabbed her water bottle. I watched as she went to her bag and thought she was going to leave, but she grabbed a small box in it and she walked over, sitting next to me.
"I brought some cookies that I baked myself," she said and I looked at the box as she opened it to see several cookies in it
"I made them for you. I don't know what flavor you like, but I made chocolate and vanilla," she said with a bright smile on her face and smiled.
"Dolores, what are you doing?" I asked and she just kept smiling.
"What do you mean? I'm not doing anything," she replied, "I just brought them for you since you're teaching me for nothing in return," she added.
"You're flirting with me Dolores, that's it," I said and the smile on her face slowly faded.
"While we were training, you kept trying to make contact and now you're being so nice," I said and I saw a frown form on her face.
I don't think I've ever seen a frown on Dolores's face. Never.
"Is this because of Alvina?" She asked and I almost choked on my saliva.
I coughed and tapped my chest lightly.
"Alvina? What are you talking about?" I asked, glaring at Dolores. What does she know??
She shook her head and tried to stand up, but I grabbed her hand and made her sit down.
"Dolores, don't lie to me, what do you know?" I asked with a glare and she sighed in defeat.
"I was in my house, trying a focus technique, and I kinda overheard a conversation between you and Alvina," she said and I scoffed.
What?
"Overhear?? How did you hear us from your house?" I asked. Their house was too far even for a wolf's sense of hearing.
"It's a technique I was practicing," she replied.
"What technique is that?" I asked, frustrated and annoyed at her.
"I read about it-"
"Read, read, read, what are you always reading?!" I asked, throwing my hands up in the air.
She frowned and didn't answer me.
"What did you hear?" I asked.
"You and Alvina, ummmmm..... You were, umm...." She was trying to talk and she looked embarrassed. I realized what was happening and muttered a curse under my breath.
"You know what? Forget it. You didn't hear anything," I said and she nodded.
"She's the Luna now, I thought you'd let go of her now," Dolores said and I shook my head. I wasn't about to have this conversation with her.
"Dolores, I don't want to talk about this. I've finished teaching you what you wanted, you can go now," I said and she stood up with a slight frown, a crease forming on her forehead.
I looked at the open box of cookies beside me on the bench.
"Can I keep the cookies though?" I asked.
"Whatever," she replied and walked out of the training room. I sighed as I watched her leave.
Maybe Dolores was right and I should let go and move on. Alvina was Logan's mate now, the Luna, and there was nothing I could do in this situation.
It has been a week since the coronation when it happened and we haven't spoken a word to each other since.
Logan made me his Beta and I always came across Alvina a few times, but all we did was exchange stares and pretend as if everything was okay.
Dolores was very smart and she was beautiful, but I couldn't bring myself to see her as anything other than Councilwoman Tamara's daughter.
And I don't want to get involved in anything that could turn out like it did with Alvina.
I grabbed a cookie from the box beside me and took a bite. I picked up the box and walked out of the training room.
I took a look at the cookie I was holding as I tasted how good it was. Oh, it was very nice.
I walked to my room and locked the door. I set the box of cookies on the table and took off my shirt. I was sweaty from the training and I needed to shower and get changed.
I walked to my bathroom quickly and turned on the cold water as I stood in the shower. I bent my head as the water hit my body.
I closed my eyes as I leaned my hands on the marble wall of the bathroom.
"I thought you wanted to play football," my father said as younger me ran back to the house. I looked at him and shook my head while I clutched the small ball in my hand.
"I'll wait till later, there are other kids playing on the field," the younger me replied and my father gave me a disapproving shake of his head.
"You are going to be Alpha one day, you don't submit to circumstances or others, you have to take what you want for yourself," my father said and my younger self nodded.
"Good, now go back to the field and tell them that you want to play football," my father said and my younger self ran back to the field.
Alvina walked over to my side of the bed and bent down to kiss me.
"Even if Logan's Alpha, I'm happy I still have you," I said, letting go of her hand as she walked to the door.
My eyes shot open and I snapped out of the memories going through my head as I heard a knock on my door. I turned off the shower and stepped out, grabbing my towel.
I dried my body and put on a new shirt and pants before going to answer the door.
There was no one there so I looked down the hallway to see Logan walking away. I closed the door and quickly caught up with him.
"Did you knock on my door?" I asked and he turned around to face me.
"Yes, I knocked several times, I thought you weren't inside," he replied and kept walking.
"Sorry, I was in the shower." I followed him closely.
"I just wanted to remind you about the list I asked for, I'm going to meet with the Elders now," Logan said and he stopped by his room. He opened the door and I briefly saw Alvina sitting in the room.
He walked in and closed the door, reappearing shortly with a paper in his hand.
"Add this one too," he said and handed the paper to me. I nodded.
"I'm going now," he said and I watched as he walked out of the building. I was about to go to my room, but I stopped and looked at the door of Logan's room.
I saw Alvina inside now. I had Alvina, she was mine and we loved each other.
I can't just accept this and do nothing.
