Chapter 55
***DEREK***
I can't just accept Alvina belonging to Logan, and do nothing.
I looked left and right in the hallway to make sure nobody was around to see me before knocking on the door.
Soon, the door clicked open and Alvina stretched her neck out. She looked shocked to see that it was me and she immediately pulled me in.
She looked in the hallway to make sure no one was in watching before she shut the door and turned around to face me.
"Derek, what are you doing here?" She asked and crossed her arms over her chest.
"I came to see you, I need to talk to you," I said and she scoffed in frustration.
"Are you out of your mind?" She asked she looked scared and worried, "What if Logan or anyone who else sees you?!"
"No one saw me alright," I said, gesturing with my hands that she should calm down.
"I haven't spoken to you in a week and I really miss you," I added and she sighed.
"Derek, I have a mate now," she replied coldly and walked past me, going to stand in front of her dressing mirror.
She turned her back against me and picked up an earring from the table.
"Yes, but you said we should both leave the pack if we have different mates," I said as I watched her tilt her head slightly to the side to put an earring on her left ear.
She dropped the second piece she was holding, with a sigh of frustration as she turned around to face me.
"I don't have just any other mate, it's the Alpha, what do you want me to do about it? This is comple-" She asked and stopped as she realized her voice was too raised. She glanced at the door, worried someone would hear us before facing me again and whispering this time.
"This is completely out of my control."
"We can run away together and join another pack. It'll be just like we talked about, the two of us will be together," I said, trying to hide how hurt I was.
I loved her so much and just one week ago, I had her, and I was so happy despite every other thing that was happening.
One week ago, it would be impossible to imagine that I would be the one begging Alvina to forget everything else and be with me. Even when I was certain we'll be each other's mates, she was scared and suggested we could leave together.
"That is the problem Derek, I can't run," she replied, "I cannot just leave with you," she added.
"To do that would be treason and it would bring shame to my father and my brothers." It looked like she had already thought this through and made up her mind about it.
She was no Logan's mate and anything that happened between us was over.
"And, what about your decision to make sure you get what you deserve from this pack?" She asked and I nodded.
"You're right," I said in a low voice and nodded again before going to the door.
***
TWO WEEKS AGO.
I had less than 30 minutes to find somewhere safe to stay. I could already feel my wolf powers waning and the arrows hurt more than they should. It also didn't seem it was going to heal as fast.
I stood up with a low grunt and slung my gun over my shoulder as I walked into the forest.
There was an elevation deep in the forest that led to the human world, if I could get there quickly, I'll be able to hide at the top till the morning when my wolf abilities will be back.
It would make my journey to LakeMoon pack harder and farther, but I have less than 30 minutes before the moon wanes and I can't get to LakeMoon within that time.
I stopped as I heard a low rumble in my stomach. Fuck, I groaned silently as I realized I hadn't eaten.
I was going to eat this morning when I came back to the pack mansion after getting those letters from the Pack Elders. But I couldn't because of Landon and he locked me in the dungeon all day.
I also wasted the food brought to me by the guards because I needed to escape.
I licked my lips and saw that my mouth was also very dry and I was thirsty. I looked around the forest and saw a peach tree far ahead. It was in the opposite direction of where I was heading. I looked up at the sky to check the moon.
I could climb the tree and get some to eat quickly. If I hurry, I'll make it to the forest elevation on time. I began to walk faster turning left, away from the forest path to the peach tree.
As I got to the tree, I stopped and raised my head to look at the top. I lowered my head again as I saw how tall it was and I dropped my gun on the floor, by the foot of the tree.
I naturally tried to extend my claws, but nothing happened and I raised my hand to look at my fingers.
What? Why can't I extend my claws. I sighed in realization right after asking myself that question.
The moon.
I grunted as I forcefully willed it to happen and the claws slowly extended from my fingers. I jumped on the tree, digging my claws into the trunk as I slowly climbed all the way up to the top of the tree.
I plucked three peaches and slipped them into my pocket. I would eat them on the way as I had to hurry.
I prepared to climb down when I heard the rustling of leaves and a footstep. I looked down and saw a Rogue walk out of the tree line, directly below the three where I was.
You gotta be kidding me.
