"We don't want to live with demons."
"Hunt the vampires."The chanting increased.
"What do I do?" She wondered.
He threw her a look which dared her to make a move.
People will get hurt because of me.
"Why didn't you save me?" She recalled Father's yelling to her in her nightmare.
"Father, what do I do? I know that people will get hurt because of me."
She couldn't save Father.
"Miss Zuriña, I'm here... Zuriña." she heard Kaiwan say from the radio earpiece.
"I don't have the confidence..."She said to herself.
If she wasn't a vampire...she thought as she clenched her fist.
But that wasn't going to change.
People also live by accepting who they are
Even if she hoped to become human...if no one else wishes for her to achieve that dream,
then she'll just have to confront herself with that reality.
If that was the case, she thought, the most important thing right now was to use what she had to the fullest extent.
"Run."People screamed and took to their heels
"If I do this,I don't have to worry about people getting hurt." She thought.
"How dare you make such a cheap trick? Did you really think that would make a difference?" He yelled as he ran up a wall and turned to hit her when she made a hand flick at his forehead, sending him bumping into a wall.
She walked up to him."Don't worry, I won't kill you. I'll just crush you until you're at death's door."
"Fine, I can't win against you but I still have a useful weapon." He said as he pulled out a gun.
She resisted the urge to chuckle and he said.
"I know that doing this is pointless..."He paused to point the gun towards a running civilian. "...but what about this?"
"No." She screamed.
"You may be fast but are you faster than a bullet?"
He was still speaking when she moved up to him from behind to knock the gun out of his hand before she threw a jab.
He groaned in pains as he struggled to move.
"Stop messing around. The more you do, the more it'll hurt."
"Stop right there, Zuriña." She heard someone say from behind her and she turned to see the detective behind her, raising his arms. On taking a closer look, she discovered the chief was behind him, with a gun held to the back of his head.
"Chief, please don't do this." He pleaded.
"Do you see how absurd this situation is?The appearance of vampires has actually put things in order. All the schemes that appear in the society has given the police the power to control the people and allowed us to fulfill our duties."
"You're strictly making up a jurisdiction." She replied.
"Do you know? After the appearance of vampires, the crime rate has decreased significantly. People have become too afraid to go out at night and they no longer have the courage to commit crimes in the public."
"It sounds very plausible...But the logic of using fear to erase fear is something I disagree with." He said and the chief swiftly moved from behind him to grab him by the neck before throwing him towards a building.
"This country is already rotting away. We're just purifying it with new blood. You already know the cops are nothing but our puppets. Right, babe?" He asked as she strode over to grab Kaiwan by the neck.
"That's right." She replied, holding the gun against Kaiwan's chest.
"If either of you move a single eyebrow, I'll shoot. You should know how easy it is for us to erase any evidence if we kill you." He said and the chief slipped out the security device he'd implanted in his shirt.
"You're a real moron, do you really believe that?Break it, I dare you to. If you do, it'll activate the GPS and the SWAT team will be the first to respond."
"You're still trying to act like a big shot even now....Even if that happens, the police are still dogs in this network of ours. A guard dog...Ah, since they're dogs, they should be called 'servants' not 'police'."
"I'll be faster at this distance, than you pulling the trigger." Zuriña told her.
"I know."
She was about to make a move when the chief moved the gun and fired.
"Detective!" She screamed.
"Huh?"
