PUREBLOOD Chapter 24

"I saw another dead person again....Vampire incidents don't seem to stop. It scares me and it feels like everything is my fault. What should I do?" Zuriña had asked.

She'd just come back from buying books from a bookshop when she'd come across a police line, with a dead body inside of it.

"You don't need to act like an adult, you'll grow white hairs that way." Father had told her

"But I already have white hair so I was thinking..."

"Of?"He'd asked

"What if I go out wearing a mask and fight for justice? I'm strong, aren't I? I can fight the vampires. It'll take one punch." She'd replied and Father had shook his head.

"Ah, I mean... if I don't do something, then I have no right to live among humans."

"You're no Flash. The situation will only get worse if you appeared. What they really want is..."He was saying then shook his head. "Nevermind, in any case don't do anything."

"Father, can't you at least tell me the reason? You always say that clumsy acts of good deeds could turn to poison for others." She'd said and he'd took out a bottle of ox blood from the pocket and given it to her.

"They were giving out these out at the nearby shop."He'd turned to leave but stopped and turned back to her.

"However, when you feel you've matured enough to feel empathetic towards people, then you can do something. There will be a day someone will ask for your help."

Sahan could be using the students as hostages. Rushing him and approaching him could be dangerous so she needed to first look into the student.

Damn it.

Can't believe she couldn't do anything when there was an angel of death right in front of them.

No,she thought. She had to speak with Hannah.

Kaiwan was watching TV in the living room when she walked out.

"Where are you going?"

"There's something I need to check out. I'll be back soon."

He made to rise. "I'll come with you."

"There's no need to. I'll be back before you know it." She replied and headed out.

Hannah was staggering as she walked a few blocks away and she found her in a minute, thanks to her ability. She had to come out straight to her as there was no time to waste.

"Did you go home safely at that time?... I'm a bit busy so I'll get right to the point. You're a vampire, right?" She asked.

She could see the fear in her eyes. "What are you talking about? That doesn't make sense."

"Judging by how you don't reek of blood, it seems you haven't drunk any yet, right?"

"What are you talking about? Why would no drink blood?"Hannah asked, panicking.

Zuriña slowly walked towards her and she staggered back.

"Please detective, don't investigate me."

"I know your relationship with Sahan...no, your school counselor. so don't try to talk your way out of it, since I've been monitoring you for the past couple of days..." She was saying when Hannah started shaking, like someone possessed.

"I don't know." She stuttered.

What?

"I don't know a...anything about the counselor...I...swear."

Why was she reacting like that to Sahan's name? Was there something she didn't know?

Hannah seemed to come back to her senses a few minutes later.

"Detective,I really didn't want to do this but.. but if you keep interrogating me like this...then you give me no choice."

"Then I guess there's no choice. Let's talking at the station." She replied.

Hannah suddenly vanished in front of her and Zuriña's ears pricked up, enabling her to hear her movements despite how fast she moved.

Zuriña waited until she felt Hannah was coming behind her before she turned to give her a punch and Hannah crashed to the floor.

"Stop, if you continue, it won't end well for you."

Hannah vanished again and she sighed. Her stubbornness would only implicate her especially since she wasn't aware of her true identity.

"Sorry detective... I still have things to do." Hannah screamed behind her and her ears told her Hannah was going to stab her with something.

She spun to kick her in the leg and Hannah went bumping into a shelf of tube bars, dislodging them in the process.

Transfixed to the spot, Hannah closed her eyes prepared for her death and Zuriña raced to her, throwing herself over Hannah to protect her. The tube bars dropped on her, injuring her severely in the process and Hannah opened her eyes in time to see Zuriña's blood dripping down her face.

"Detective..."

Zuriña pushed the tub bars away and rose to her feet. Her eyes had changed colour to blue and she took off her wig as a part of it was soaked in blood.

She walked over to sit on the nearest stairs to look at the severity of the wound and Hannah slowly walked up to her.

"Are you okay?" Hannah asked.

"The healing should kick in soon so I should be fine."

"You're a vampire too, right detective? What are you? I don't think you aren't like other vampires." She asked.

"I'm just a vampire with white hair and strange coloured eyes, so what happened to you?"

"I...uh...My mom left me and dad with a huge debt. So it was just me and him, with a hell like dad that is. He'd always beat me, and ask me to get money even if it included sleeping around. I hardly got fed at home...and he always stole the money I got from working part-time...so just pretend like you don't know, just this once... please let me live." She sighed.

"That counselor isn't helping you. I want to protect you and everyone at your school. Please help us."

"I can't..."She sighed.

"Huh?"

"Truthfully, doc is..."She was saying when Sahan materialized beside her.

"So, what were you planning on saying, Hannah?"
