PUREBLOOD Chapter 27

Kaiwan pulled up into the garage of their apartment that night and waited for Hannah to alight before he did.

"Are you okay?" He asked. She'd probably been totally shaken by her ordeal.

"I'm okay...Where...."

"Our place... I mean Zuriña and I."

"I see."

He turned to lead her towards the front door before he invited her in.

He turned to the kitchen after shutting the door behind him and led Hannah to the living room.

"What would you like..." He asked and was about to turn towards the kitchen when he recalled vampires could not take drinks.

"Ah, right. Would you care for some beverages?"He asked and she shook her head.

"Okay then." He shrugged and went to brew up tea for himself.

He returned to the living room with a cup of warm tea and made to sit when Hannah said.

"I'm worried about Detective Zuriña. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't break free from the doctor's hypnosis. It was impossible, he used my own personal traumatic experiences against me...He let me live because he said he still had a use for me but I really thought I was going to die, right there and then...Detective Zuriña is in serious danger. He's evil, a complete monster." She said.

"Yeah, he's pretty horrible."

She turned to look at him, surprised."What? Aren't you worried at all?"

A smile tugged at the corner of his lips. "You need to give Zuriña more credit. She's stronger then you think."

"How sure are you?"

"There are two kinds of vampires..." He said and swept back his hair. "Vampires who have extraordinary strength and vampires who have extraordinary ability. As a general rule, it's difficult for ordinary vampires to beat vampires with supernatural abilities."

"How then is Detective Zuriña going to beat the doctor?"

"But the thing is there's one exception."

She seemed interested."Can she pick up supernatural abilities?

He shook his head. "Almost but not quite.

I won't call it 'picking up' supernatural abilities. She's merely awakening her true power."

"If it weren't for you, these kids would have been able to attend school without going through any of this. People wouldn't be afraid to leave their houses...Your siblings won't be struggling and the mixed blood vampires wouldn't be after you. If it weren't for you... I wouldn't have to die too. You're the root of all this suffering... Why don't you make up for it by killing yourself?"

Tears crawled down her cheeks as she slowly raised her hand to her heart.

He was right.

She had to end it now, she said to herself as her claws scrapped her blouse.

"I'll make up for it,I promise...But killing myself isn't the answer.I'm going to keep on living and make the world alright again." She said.

To her surprise, the priest started fading away. It was an illusion?

She was still wondering how it was possible when images of an unfamiliar man and woman she didn't recognize appeared before her eyes.

What was this?Who were these people? She had never seen them before.

But somehow, they seemed familiar.

The megrim hit her again and she clasped to her head in pain, her head feeling like it was going to explode.

"Zuriña..." The woman called out to her, with blood streaming down her face.

"Stop...stop it."She wanted to cry out but there was no way she was going to cower to Sahan. Never.

The migraine slowly faded and she dropped her heart from her chest as the ground returned to stabilization.

Sahan's eyes widened like he'd seen a ghost and she could understand why, since she'd broken free from his hypnosis.

"How..."

"The natural response when you're forced to relieve a traumatic experience is try and escape it. But unfortunately for you, I have no intention of running away from my past. Does that clear up things for you?" She smirked.

"Ugh." He looked like he'd used up all his energy.

"It wasn't really hard to break free from the hypnosis. I expected an angel of death to be more powerful...Let's pick up where we left off. If I remember correctly, I was beating you to death, slowly." She said and advanced towards him.

He walked back before she could come near. "Not so fast. I'm not done yet...Don't you want to know? How I became an angel of death using this ability?"He asked

To her surprise, some other people began to troop in.They weren't in uniform, neither did they look like students. Where did they come from?

"Do you think you can use these people to fight against me?" She asked, unable to believe how low, a person could stoop.

"I know I'm not as physically gifted as some of the other vampires. But here's why I was able to become an angel of death with my abilities. Killing someone is like child's play for me. Because if I choose to, I can make a whole city do my bidding...The choice is yours. You can either let these people too out their own hearts or you can rip out yours." He smirked.

"Fine...Let's see who wins." She said and made to launch an attack when he asked.

"How was the experience by the way? Did I dig too deep and dredge up some memories you wanted to suppress?"

She froze. Memories? Were those memories before she turned ten?

"Why are you playing dumb. Don't tell me you have amnesia?...Oops, I must have triggered some traumatic memories."

"Traumatic memories, huh?"She asked

"What's the matter? Hurry up and choose."He smiled. He seemed to be enjoying this.

She walked towards him slowly as he backed away. "Listen to me for a moment. Leave these people out of it, they have nothing to do with this. Why don't we talk this out instead?" She asked as she tried to approach him.

"It's a little too late for that. The numbers are in my favour. Let's see who can hold out for much longer... I hypnotized everyone here so that if I die, they all die too. I wonder how you're going to use that strength of yours now."He laughed and she lowered her head for a minute.

He left her with no choice then.

"I choose death."
