Iris's POV.
I turned my face, and the very moment I noticed my eyes were becoming watery, I was in pain because Rupert was there, no, not because he was there, it was because of the person standing behind him, she pushed her hand around his waist, and he turned suddenly causing their lips to meet.
"Alpha Iris, the car is ready, will you like to leave already" Drake speak behind me, I take a deep breath and turned to him.
"Sure." I managed to say, trying to keep a stable voice.
"Alpha Iris, are you okay?"
"Yes, I am fine, alpha Donald, I think I have to leave." He must have noticed how uneasy I become all of a sudden. "You should just contact Drake if you need to visit."
"It will be my pleasure." Alpha Donald said before turning around and walking away, my gaze move back to where Rupert was standing, he is no longer there, my eyes wandered around the arena, only to see him open the door for Celina, as they enter the car, and drove off.
I turned my gaze and went back into the car, Drake got to the driver seat, I don't have a driver yet. So he is more like my driver and personal guard.
"Alpha Iris," Drake called, I turned from the window that I was resting lazily on and watched the way the trees and other cars disappeared as we head back to our pack, the meeting wasn't held in Goldfang pack.
"What is it, Drake?"
"The pack members, are asking that you pick your beta and fixed a day for your coronation?"
"Oh that, just send a message across to them stating that my coronation will be in a fortnight and that I have already gotten my beta."
"You found your beta already?" Drake asked in excitement, I nodded. "so what is his name?"
"Drake Sylvester." He turned and look at me surprised. "Why? Don't you want to be my beta?"
"Of cause, I will love to but don't you think you will need experience..."
"You are the best option for the position of a beta. You don't have to prove yourself and I am sure, the pack members will not object to my choice of beta, you have proven yourself worthy of it."
"Thank you." I smiled at him.
"You don't have to thank me, you just have to prove to them that you are deserving of the position of a beta."
"You have nothing to worry about, I will be at your service 24/7." I tittered turning back to the road. "There is also another issue."
My face darkens, for some unknown reason I feel uneasy about the next issue that he is about to talk about. Even though I haven't heard it, I just don't want to hear it but I have no choice but to hear it out.
"What is it?" I finally asked.
"Alpha Iris, the pack members are asking for your mate, they want you to have a male beside you, they are also thinking that you could have your claiming on the same day as your coronation."
"I don't fucking need that, and haven't I done a lot already for me to prove myself that I could protect them all?" I raised my voice suddenly, giving out that alpha aura, Drake look at me. "sorry." I mouthed, running my hand on my temple, I was irritated because of Rupert, not because of the pack members.
"I am sorry, I didn't mean to bring that up, it's just that, the council thinks that a strong female alpha needs a strong male alpha beside her, if she has her mate beside her, it will be easier for her to rule the pack very well and he will scare other alpha that might want to attack the pack."
I clenched my fist, as my eyebrows furrowed, now I get, the reason my father will return home after attending a council meeting with a dark face like that of a heavy cloud. I pulled out the door of the car.
"Alpha Iris..."
"Just tell them, they will have a date for that but as for the coronation, it will be held in a fortnight, and my beta announcement will take place the same day but my mate will only be announced when I am ready." I get off the car, and I didn't wait for another word from him, I saw his face darken, the disappointment on his face is visible, and the council members will not let this rest, they are going to bring it up the very minute we have a meeting but I am not going to let them control me, I am their alpha and my mate, is something I will do for myself, not for the pack members.
Darting into the building, I banged the door behind me.
"Take it easy," Sally speaks in my head.
"How could I? I haven't even gotten my coronation party and they are asking for a mate already?" I pushed my hair back in frustration.
"You wouldn't blame them."
"Now it's my fault, that my mate was an asshole and rejected me before he even claimed me and that I killed him without giving him a second chance..."
"Iris stop it, you are getting paranoid. They only want what is best for you, even if you don't have a mate, they could always be a list of eligible male wolves that your beta could get for you, you could pick from them..."
"Now they are going to make me meet male wolves?" I growl.
"Iris stops it, you are getting irritated not because of this conversation but because of Rupert because you saw him with Celina. Stop it already.' I heaved, Sally is right, I was only acting like a dick.
"I need air."
"You want to go to the club?" Back then, I, Hilary, and Helga used to go clubbing but now I realize I don't even have a female friend anymore.
"Yes, I think I should go with Ariana, I will just mindlink her, so she comes with me." Sally pinned her lips. "Oh; she is not connected," I murmured.
"I don't think you should go to the club, you have serious issues, and drinking yourself to stupor Is the least of your worries."
I ignore Sally and mind-link Mason.
"Hey alpha Iris, to what do I owe this alpha summon."
"You committed a crime and you deserve punishment."
"So what is my punishment alpha, Iris?
"You are to send Ariana here in the next half an hour." He tittered at my words.
"Are you bored, I could send Campbell."
"No, I want Ariana, she is the only one that could be of help to me." He went mute for a while. "Are you still there?" I questioned.
"Yes, sure, so you said, you need Ariana?"
"Come on Mason, I am not going to put your mate in trouble, I will be going with Drake and my new guard, I just need air, I want to go to the club."
"Fine, I will let her know, she will be there in an hour."
"I know I could count on you." He disconnected the mind link, I jumped from my bed, and I rampage my wardrobe, looking for something nice to wear.
Then my eyes fall on a black shirt gown, I sip into it, it's pretty short almost hiding nothing on my skin, but I wanted to, I don't know what my life will be turned into in the next fortnight, I might probably be in the hands of a male wolf, that is overprotective and too possessive, I should enjoy it while it last. I added little makeup on my face, and as I pack my hair in Ponytail, the doorbell rings.
"That must be Ariana." Speeding up to the door, I grabbed the door without trying to see through the door who is there, there comes my company, standing lazily at the door.
