The Rejected Mate Chapter 22

I heard a knock on my door, and when I opened it, I saw Leah. She looked furious, but her skin was pale, which made me wonder if something was wrong. However, I didn't care about her appearance as she suddenly slapped me hard across my cheek. I was shocked and taken aback by her action.

"What was that for?" I asked, rubbing my cheek.

Leah was fuming with anger and asked me why I had told Derick the address of this building. I was confused and didn't know why she was furious about that. She continued to blame me for the death of her unborn child, and I couldn't understand what she was saying.

"What are you talking about?" I asked, bewildered.

Leah explained that Derick came to visit and was looking for Blake, but instead, he found her. Derick attacked her with his pawn fang fingers on her tummy, which made her lose the baby she was carrying for Blake. I was shocked and didn't know how to react.

I couldn't understand my emotions and heart after hearing this statement. I had already agreed that I didn't have any feelings for Blake anymore, due to the humiliation I had been getting ever since I got rejected by him. But I found myself feeling jealous and angry upon hearing that Leah had been pregnant for Blake.

I looked at Leah and told her that she should blame Blake for attacking Derick's pack, which caused Derick to come hunting for revenge. I told her that I was not to be blamed for what had happened. I then slammed the door on her face and went back to my room crying.

I could hear Leah banging on my door again, but I didn't reply to her. I was too upset and confused by what had just happened. I sat on my bed and tried to make sense of everything that had transpired. When my phone beep for a message, and I took it to have a look.

I couldn't believe what I was seeing. The pictures on my phone showed the brutal attack on my parents' territory in New York, and I was filled with fear and worry. Despite their banishing me from their pack for going against the pack rules, they were still my parents, and I couldn't bear the thought of losing them.

My heart was racing, and I was on the verge of panic when another message popped up. It was from the Black Bird Wolves Pack. The message asked if I was ready to join them now, or if they should become more brutal than this. The implications of the message made me shiver with fear.

I tried calling the number, but it didn't connect. I was at a loss for what to do. Then, I suddenly heard a knock on my door again, I rushed outside my room to see who, and to my surprise, I saw black banquet roses on my doorstep. I picked them up slowly, my tears flowing freely. I screamed and smashed the bouquet against the wall, unable to contain my emotions.

I felt trapped, alone, and vulnerable. I didn't know who to trust or where to turn. I needed to figure out what to do next, but my mind was in turmoil. I sat down on the floor, feeling defeated and lost. I knew I had to find a way to protect myself and my family, but I didn't know where to start.

Suddenly, I remembered that Derick once asked me a favor. So I decided to call him and tell Derick who helped me secure job at the coffee shop, maybe he will help, since he's an Alpha of his pack.

As I made the call to Derick, my heart was racing. I knew I needed to find a way to escape the threat of the Black Bird Wolves pack, but I also knew that betraying Miranda who helped me get my job would weigh heavily on my conscience. However, I didn't have much of a choice.

Derick answered the phone after just two rings. "What can I do for you?" he asked in his usual arrogant tone.

"I'm ready to tell you the name of the person who helped me get my job at the coffee shop," I said quickly, not wasting any time.

There was a brief pause on the other end of the line, and I could hear Derick's breathing in the silence. "Alright," he finally said. "Come over to my company and tell me in person. I want to be able to look at your face in case you try to lie to me."

I knew that Derick was a shrewd boss, but his words still stung a little. Did he really think that little of me? That I would lie to him about something like this?

But I didn't have time to dwell on my hurt feelings. I needed to get out of this mess as soon as possible, and Derick was my best shot at making that happen.

I made my way to Derick's company, as I walked through the doors and up to the reception desk, I discovered that Mondragon's company has changed their receptionist. I felt a wave of nervousness wash over me.

"Hello, can I help you?" the receptionist asked politely.

"I'm here to see Derick," I said, trying to keep my voice steady.

The receptionist looked me up and down, sizing me up. "Do you have an appointment?"

I shook my head. "No, but he's expecting me." I noticed that none of Derick's pack members are in the company anymore, everyone there, looks new but they're werewolves.

The receptionist hesitated for a moment, then picked up the phone and dialed a number. "Sir Derick, there's someone here to see you. She says she doesn't have an appointment, but you're expecting her?"

I could hear Derick's voice on the other end of the line. "Yes, send her up."

The receptionist motioned for me to take the elevator to the top floor, where Derick's office was located. I stepped inside and hit the button, feeling my nerves ratchet up even further as the doors closed.

When I stepped out of the elevator and into Derick's office, I was struck by how spacious and luxurious it was because this is not how his office looks before. There was a large desk in the center of the room, behind which sat Derick.

"Ah, there you are," he said, standing up and gesturing for me to take a seat. "Please, have a seat."

I sat down in one of the plush leather chairs in front of his desk, feeling small and insignificant in the vast, opulent room.

"So," Derick said, leaning forward and steepling his fingers. "Who helped you get your job at the coffee shop?"

I took a deep breath, feeling a lump form in my throat. "It was my friend, Miranda," I said, trying to keep my voice steady."

Derick raised an eyebrow. "Miranda, huh? Wait, which Miranda?"

I hesitated for a moment, "the one's that works here."

Derick gave me a skeptical look, but he didn't push the issue any further. "I need to see her!"
