Chapter 81
JACK’s POV.
“Hello,” I said in a defeated tone as soon as I picked up my phone.
“Dr. Jack, hello, it’s Mathew, I think I’ve been able to track the location of your wife,”
I immediately shot up from the couch.
“Really? Where?” I asked, hopeful.
“I’m not quite sure but she seems to be deep in the forest somewhere around the city’s border. You’d have to come over to see for yourself.”
“A forest?” I asked, fear in my chest.
“Yes,”
My God, was she okay? Was she…
I was too afraid to complete that question in my head.
She was definitely okay, I could feel it in my chest.
Quickly, I put on my coat and ran out of my house to meet Mathew.
He was in front of his house when I got there, looking like he was about to leave.
“Mathew!” I waved at him as soon as I climbed out of the car.
“Dr. Jack, you are here. I was just about to leave, I have a job to do,”
“I’m sorry I’m late, there was a bit of traffic. So what is this about a forest?”
I asked.
Mathew looked at his watch and whistled
“Alright, I can spare five minutes to give you a proper explanation and her location but unfortunately I can’t help you out right now with tracking her.”
Mathew invited me into his house, which had more screen monitors than walls.
“Have a seat,” he gestured and I immediately sat down.”
*So, your wife seems to be in the middle of this place.” He pointed at his screen. “Her phone came on just a few hours ago, that’s how I was able to track her down.” He looked up at me
“What is she doing in the middle of the woods?” I asked.
“I’m not sure. My guess is that she was abducted. No one goes into those woods, it leads to a cliff.” He explained.
An alarm went off just then and Mathew immediately got up from his chair.
“I’m sorry but time is up, I have to move. I’ll be back tomorrow, I can explain more to you and if you need help I can connect you to a friend of mine,”
“Thanks Mathew, I’ll Venmo you for your job,”
“Thank you Dr. It was nice doing business with you,” he said, shook my hands and ushered me out of his house.
I got into my car and glanced at the information Mathew had sent me.
I needed to find my wife now, I couldn’t wait for Mathew to arrive tomorrow.
It took almost forever to get a hold of him. He was a free agent and was rarely ever home because everyone that wished to remain anonymous employed his skills.
I turned my car to the direction of the location on my phone and drove to that direction. I was going to find her today.
I drove for fifteen minutes and decided to park and get myself something from a diner.
As I was ordering my food, a woman walked up to the counter, waiting for the attending waitress.
I felt a pull towards her.
She was beautiful and tall. Almost as tall as me.
She also reminded me a lot of Larissa, the first time we’d met.
There was this wide eyed look in her eyes that made me wonder for a sec if she was related to Larissa. She didn’t look anything like her but there was just something similar between them both.
She glanced at me and narrowed her eyes at me as if trying to square up on me. I smiled at her and she looked away, almost irritated by the gesture.
“Sorry ma’am, what would you like to order?”
“Um, I’m not sure. What do kids like to eat these days?” she asked.
The attending waitress raised a quizzical eyebrow before speaking again.
“Would you like to check out our menu? Maybe find something your kids may like,”
She frowned before nodding and collecting the Menu from the waitress.
She checked the Menu and shrugged,
“Just give me three plates of pasta, three Cokes and three cupcakes. And then for me a fanta and a burger. You know what? Make it four burgers,”
I stared at her in disbelief as I listened to her order.
A thought surfaced in my mind.
Why was she ordering so much food?
I looked over at her again and something told me she had my kids.
It was stupid and didn’t make sense to me but I had a strong feeling that she had my kids.
I shook my head, ignoring my ridiculous thoughts.
I had been searching for the triplets since they disappeared from school, going from place to place showing pictures of them to anybody and anyone in the street.
I had gotten a lead once but the lady only said she saw just a kid and he came to buy something and that he looked just like the two boys in the pictures.
She mentioned his mother was with him too which I thought was weird. When I had asked her to describe the lady. She’d described a woman that looked nothing like Larissa.
I glanced at the lady again, she didn’t quite fit the description the lady at the bodega had given but that was probably because she had a hoodie and glasses on. She did, however, fit the height description.
“No,” I shook my head.
I was being paranoid. I had to go find Larissa.
I began to walk out of the diner as soon as I collected my order but then stopped and went back inside the diner.
“Hello,” I walked up to the lady and she glanced at me, her eyes widened a fraction before she frowned at me again.
“What do you want?”
“I just wanted to say that you are really beautiful,”
“Thanks,” she said and averted her gaze.
“That’s a lot of food you ordered back there, you have kids?” I asked.
I needed to clear out this suspicion soon.
“No,” she said a little too quickly.
With a frown, I took out the pictures of Dave, Diana and Daniel.
“Well, I have three lovely ones, they are in boarding school right now,” I lied as I showed her the picture.
“These are my little angels, aren’t they the sweetest looking angels you’ve ever seen?” I asked, watching out for her reaction…
Her eyes widened and she backed away from me as if she’d been hit across the face.
Just then her order arrived and she quickly collected it and practically ran out of the diner.
I followed her outside but made sure she didn’t notice.
She was a good distance away before I got into my car.
I waited for a second watching whether or not she was going to hail a taxi. When she did, I started the engine of my car and decided to follow the Taxi.
There was no harm in confirming, I’d either find my kids or not.
The Taxi carrying the strange woman stopped in front of a motel and I frowned.
Why was a lady living in a motel room with kids?
Three to be precise. At least that’s what she insinuated with her order even though she’d blatantly lied that she didn’t have any.
I watched as she walked through the entrance of the motel and I immediately followed suit.
I got to the front desk a few seconds after her and requested a room.
The lady in the front desk seemed incredibly unbothered so I decided to ask a question.
“Please, the miss that just came in, can you tell me her room number?”
“Not allowed to do that sir,” she said with a bored look in her eyes
“Please she’s my wife and is refusing to talk to me.” I lied.
“I told you sir, it’s not allowed. I can’t give you the information of a client. It’s against company policy.” She said, chewing her gum loudly.
“Fine, is she alone or does she have my kids with her?” I decided to ask instead.
“She’s not alone, that’s all I can tell you,”
For fuck sakes! I cursed under my breath and brought out my wallet and took out a hundred dollar bill and slid it over to her.
“Will this make you talk?” I asked. I couldn’t believe I’d stooped so low as to result in bribery but this was important.
The receptionist took the cash and smiled, “A couple more of this and I’ll answer your question,”
I let out an annoyed sigh and pulled out a thousand dollars from my wallet and slid it to her. She immediately took it and grinned wide.
“Room 9, she has three kids with her. They appear to be twin boys and a girl or triplets, I’m not really sure. She never lets them out. She goes out a couple of times a day to get food but that’s all. The kids never go with her.”
“Thank you so much!” I thanked her, collected my keys and went upstairs.
My room number was 11 just a couple of doors away from hers.
As I got to room 7, I could hear muffled voices of kids.
I took a deep breath and tried to peep through the peephole.
I gasped at what I saw.
